I've been on this site a long time and have never been really content with it's moderation, but I feel like it has become worse over time and at this point many threads get deleted if they only become large enough, because it becomes too difficult to moderate them. I have compiled a few suggestions that could be implemented and would make moderation a lot easier. Granted I know nothing about the current moderation system, so some of these could already be in place. 1. Implement a queue of comments / threads that have been reported and need to be reviewed by a moderator. Weigh them by the time of the first report and the number of reports the post has received. 2. Implement a proper set of rules which will be used to justify removal of comments and bans. Then when banning / removing label the offending comment / thread with the rule which it violates to build up a database of examplary data which breaches site policy. (You should also include non-bannable comments in there for training purposes). You can then train a classifier on this data which can automatically predict the likeliness with which a comment or thread violates a rule and also send it to the queue. Comments where the classifier is very confident that it constitutes a rule break could be held back pending review and only actually shown once the comment is approved. (This should be done in a transparent way and not just not displaying the comment for everyone but the user.) 3. Implement a highlight button for the moderation team which highlights new comments and newly edited comments inside of a thread. 4. Users with extensive recent ban histories could also have comments randomly selected to be placed within the review queue. (I'm not advocating for a full-blown social credit score, but just that repeat offenders are under more scrutiny.) I believe all of these changes could make moderation a lot easier and browsing the forum a lot more fun, plus I don't think that they are too tough to implement. What are your thoughts?
