It was kinda last minute and first international lan in USA since pandemic. its kinda wrong to judge on a sample size of one poorly managed event
2022-12-27 19:41
Key words: most(even 1-2 teams not having their 5 is bad), typical cs contries(bne or a random russian tier3 team are prone to have problems), time and budget( a team like bne doesnt have a big budget and also time is not really that great since you need to apply after you qualify and is not that much time) So u literally proved his point, usa while it would be great in promoting the game and not let it die in that region, comes with the visa problems as it does for most international tournaments in esport, seen it happen in dota, iem dallas lately and it is very likely to happen again

Mate you are trying to represent somebody's else experience as your own and a few selective countries privileges as everyone's. Not cool at all. Kirill Kaprizov is a russian hockey superstar playing in NHL. Had spent some 2-3 years in USA prior this season, has a permission to work there, has a name well known, has a whole fucking NHL backing him up, yet even he had visa issues this year. At the level of NHL - yes, those things are solvable, so he is playing. Now you want to tell me that esports orgs, some of which have like 3-5 people in staff are ready to battle through? In reality, Russia, all asian (except Japan, and South Korea, but they do not play CS), all South America all non-EU european representatives would have potential visa issues. Out of 120 people participated in RIo Major, 53 would potentially got blocked by US embassy. As easy as that.
2022-12-30 13:02

I agree with you. The eastern US time zone could work for EU viewership if games started at/before 9AM, but yeah IEM Dallas showed the true problems of hosting a large tournament stateside. Not proud of my country there. Wasn't a coach barred from attending because he went to Israel (or Iran, I can't remember full details) like 9-12 years ago? Major yikes.

Honestly. A major in any of the countries below would be awesome: Denmark Australia South Korea Japan Germany (again) I feel like any of the countries above would have an awesome crowd and good timezones (Australia excluded) and all in all would be a nice place to hold the major cause they all have good arenas and countries are all fairly nice to visit.

2022-12-27 19:51
Do you know how many asians there are? In 2018 there lived 4,561 bil people in asia. And for reference there was only 7,604 bil people in the world. This meaning asia has the over half the population in the world. If you go onto any chinease twitch site and look at the view count it is almost over 500k all the time. Even on petty Tyloo matches. In 2019 there was an event in Beijing which wasnt at any bad playtimes for the players and people could also watch it. In league of legends there has been hosted tournaments across asia multiple times and it has had the biggest crowd there. Next year Valorant will have the championship in Japan. And heck, I know league and Valorant are all for weakling who like anime. But alot of valorant fans are also csgo fans, believe it or not. Now for the times of matches if hosted in korea or japan. It wont be that bad. If they play the matches in Japan at around 10 AM 12 PM Then it wont be that late for us to watch. In Denmark the matches would be round 6 PM or 8 PM. Thats not bad thinking about the times there was in Rio. So overall the times wont be bad and the crowd wont be bad. You wouldnt actually believe how good asian people are at cheering now a days, and not just for their own teams. It would also be a good business move from Valve since doing a Major in Asia would bring more asian people to play CSGO rather than other games, therefor creating a bigger fanbase for everything. I cant see your logic in "hugga bugga, Asia no crowd, me big strong rominian, i love csgo and asians dont"
2022-12-27 20:39
15 replies
You were talking about a major in SK or JP but now you're bringing up China. Yes a CSGO major in China would make sense because the game actually has a decent playerbase there. Also fyi, Chinese streaming websites don't show viewer numbers, the numbers that you see are some arbitrary numbers that are supposed to represent how active a certain stream is. Now back to my original point. Saying a major in SK or JP would have a great crowd is peak delusional if you have any idea of the gaming landscape in any of those countries. CS is not relevant in either if those countries and if you think people will pay money to see a tournament of a game they don't even care about you are very naive.
2022-12-27 22:03
1 reply
sounds like someone watches chinease streams alot Back to my original point. I dont care what you think. When over half the globes population lives in Asia there aint no way in hell that the arena doesnt get filled up. Now let me tell you 1 thing to prove your entire thing a bit weird. The Antwerp major was in belgium right? Now does any relevant belgian players even play? No is the answer here. Did people come yes, was it because it was a easy to travel to european country, prob yes. Was most of the crowd from belgium? Heck no. Doesnt matter for shit of the crowd is japanease south korean or what ever. There will always be fans. And surely the major couldnt be worse than Rio since that was the worst major ever.

bcz if you want money, you need the fans of the game, and making one of the most important tournament of the years in a fucked up region schedule-wise, is just a big no for profit.
2022-12-31 16:29
10 replies
So rio is just a big no for profit? I mean fans were only there during brazil games, so overall valve dont want money cause of that? Also I clearly explained in the comment way up that the schedule wouldnt be fucked up. Dont know where you are getting this information. They dont plan the play times for the players they plan it for the viewers, exept rmrs.

Valve profits off the TO's bid and steam/in game sales, the TO gets the lion's share of ad revenue and attendance. I think hosting in most EU countries or as close to GMT timezone as possible is best for overall viewership and attendance.
2022-12-31 17:53

I already knew how valve makes their money. And i agree with you on the EU tournaments being the best. I just feel like not expanding into other regions is like not doing anything about racism. But everyone has their own taste, right?

Racism has nothing to do, Asia has no scene in CS so why the fuck would you do an event in a, as i said before, a fucked up country schedule-wise. In whole America if tournaments are being played in Asia, will have a fucked up schedule so thats(again) a big NO. If you think no one is affected is cause you dont live in america where i had to wake up 6 AM to watch fucking blast wordl finals.
2022-12-31 18:02

this is just me, but tbh I actually enjoy the early schedule since I work from home and am able to keep the stream up all day (which I know isn't common these days, and I'm super fortunate for that) and rise early to play some games a bit, take kratom, and workout before starting work. But like I said, I'm fortunate for my situation, I know that isn't the norm for everyone, so I'm not refuting you btw.
2022-12-31 18:07
Are you actually stupid? Did you go to school? I am not answering your comments anymore until you have been to school and learned what "is like" means. And if you have been to school and dont understand, then your actually baiting and somehow want to keep up the comments simply cause you have no life what so ever and just want to talk against other people. So either you: 1. Touch Grass and get some friends, its new years for fuck sake. 2. Go to school

I'd argue it *could be* more perceived as xenophobic than racist - which I think (and this is only my opinion, not fact) that's a bit of a stretch. If they want to be more inclusive with hosting countries, more infrastructurally-developed countries in Africa would be better candidates. Unfortunately, I'm not super up to date on that list...so what would you think of Egypt, South Africa (dangerous depending on city, I know), or Morocco?
2022-12-31 18:04
2 replies
I have been to egypt 1 time and there was alot of bad things happening, so overall i wouldnt suggest that, also their extremely homophobic and that could hurt some people. I have heard that south africa has been having some trouble atm with crime, but else its fine. And morocco? idk. I feel like a major in the Netherlands, Spain, Germany & Turkey could be fine if it has to be places close to the GMT time. Also all countries have some good Arenas, good crowd and its kinda friendly for people to go there. but idk.
2022-12-31 18:12

I mean, USA is pretty fkn dangerous depending on where you go, too lol. One of the..."useful" (and controversial) things in South Africa is their fortified enclaves for expats and bourgeois folks. Capetown, Johannesburg, poss a few others would be viable. It aint cool, and now that I'm thinking about it, would be bad for attendees, so I digress. And yeah, I wasn't totally convinced with Egypt.

Why would they host the most important tournament of the year in a country with ZERO history with CS? A country that has literally ZERO pro teams? WCG 2006 was held in Rome and nobody ever hosted another big lan there.

People travel to nice places. It was thrown out there are options to dissect, so your reasoning is absolutely fine in this case. Also, a lot of European countries are easy to get to by more prominent CS locations. Being from the UK, it makes 0 difference to me if it is held in Germany or Italy or Greece, as I'd happily pay the inexpensive travel to any of these locations. Maybe add Lisbon to this list.

I'm not the only person adding to this discussion. Why would I suggest a place I haven't been or have limited knowledge of? I know these European cities, so I suggest them... not that complicated, really.

Prague would make a lot of sense

Yeah, I think it would be a fantastic location to host. It is also ideal location due to its proximity to competing countries (about as central ad you are going to get from Scandinavia, to the Balkans, CIS, Germany, France etc and it is a historical cultural hub.

Maybe Toronto? They had an IEM event some years ago. Vancouver would be pretty cool man.

I know that Seattle has a pretty massive esports fan base when you’re talking like per capita. Pretty sure it’s a top3 in NA as far as esports fans go and lots of orgs (liquids na HQ I think?) have roots or ops there. So that’d be a draw assuming the US doesn’t do anything too stupid between now and then

I didnt know that. I did know that it is a big tech hub. Only problem as people have suggested, which is generally applicable to all of US is immigration. Otherwise it would be super cool.

Only EU/Australia majors are allowed. The rest are shit. NA events sucks due to "VISA MENS" and also crowd is kinda bruh Rio major... bro, the worst major ever. CIS? The best place for host the major there is either Saint-Petersburg or Moscow and yet Russia is fucked and no major until CS:GO's death. Asia? wtfmens)

For the second major of 2023, ESL will surprise everyone by hosting the major in Longyearbyen and only allowing polar bears because the crowd couldn’t behave during IEM Rio.

City of three nations and city which has its spirit it was Czech, German and now is Polish Most central place in Europe, basically anyone can come and theres great stadium in there.
