Are G2 ready to consistently contend?

I was asked this by a friendly HLTV user, and was curious what everyone else thinks. Personally, they’re just about there, there’s a couple things I feel need work, which includes: -Not relying as heavily on starpower -finding ways to activate jks’s T side lurks They’re much better strategically, have one of the best riflers in the world and one of the best AWPers in the world, and their map pool is much deeper, only Vertigo is a weakness for them, currently. If jks can find more involvement with his lurks on T side, that will also help with them not relying on NiKo and m0nesy to carry as hard. What are your thoughts? Is G2 going to be a consistent contender for trophies in 2023?

We just have to accept Hooxi is winning a major before ZyWoo

Vita could slip into a major final this year, that’s not totally off the cards. Looks like dupreeh is playing better, Spinx is starting to come back to his form on ENCE, with a 1.31 rating at Blast, Magisk is consistent, although not insanely impactful. It’s all on apEX’s shoulders in terms of leading them there and also playing better since he’s been a statistical nightmare for months. HooXi levels of fragging.

I think they might win some trophies but they will still be pretty inconsistent. They still have to win a tier S event to really be considered true contendera every event.

pretty inconsistent is bit too much if we’re talking about nowadays…. they’ve just won a 1M$ tournament and looks sharp in blast as well so far they look good

I’m not saying they are inconsistent rn, but I think they will be in 2023. But still way better than in 2022. But they might win Kato and then just fail to make play-offs at the major

They have some things to work on, such as vertigo and ancient (thanks lost_wanderer!), and what I mentioned above, those are the biggest issues that are glaring, but other than that, they are very well rounded and have the pieces needed to make a top 1 team, they just need to put the pieces in the right spots.
2023-01-25 22:22
i see improvement but it's g2 and with them you never know or maybe i just don't want to be disapointed (again)
2023-01-25 22:19
Yes best team in the world currently
2023-01-25 22:20
JKS doesn't lurk much tbh, He is usually alone on defaults holding an extremity but groups up with the team late, Apart from on Nuke where he keeps lobby control while the rest of the team is outside/lower, It's not surprising Nuke looks like G2's best map as of late it's more so giving JKS more opportunity rather than him not activating, But HooXi is obviously prioritizing NiKo/m0nesy/huNter

That’s what I mean, he should find timings in flanks and rotate behind the enemy instead of grouping up for a hit. He excels with this, and should be given the opportunity on maps like Mirage, and would really help their T sides on Vertigo and Ancient.

Yeah, Comes down to how HooXi wants to call but i 100% agree
2023-01-25 22:53
they're probably the best atm with faze
2023-01-25 22:28
I feel it could be a faze g2 rivalry this year but its all dependable, we haven't seen enough imo to know if faze is at full force, or g2 is consistant imo, we need to wait to kato to make any true decisions about the matter, but I feel knowing G2 they'll fuck up somewhere, but who knows

I feel like the NaVi rematch tomorrow is the best indicator of their potential, if they can beat them again then yes they have the character and abilities to push further in tournaments,

Na’Vi right now are in a transitional period. They added a young and green player who needs time to adjust to the team, like when they added b1t. Their map pool is also not strong like it was, with Nuke being one of the only maps they’re truly strong on at the moment. Their mirage isn’t as strong, inferno has been exploitable for months, their ancient is also weak. Overpass has gotten better for them but isn’t a map that I’d say they’re insane on right now, and they haven’t even bothered playing Anubis. When their Dust II was as good as theirs, I’d expect them to be playing a ton of Anubis, but like BIG, they’re holding off on it for now.

If jks refinds his blast world final caliber, G2 can win the Paris major.

Yes he’s the missing piece on this team, especially since HooXi isn’t going to be the one fragging a ton. If jks can start finding consistency, this team would be terrifying.
2023-01-25 22:40
they should add overpass to their map pool and permaban vertigo

That’s a map they haven’t played on since 2021. Since Copenhagen flames were a great vertigo team, I’m surprised HooXi hasn’t brought anything to the table in terms of strategy,
2023-01-25 22:41
If m0nesy and jks carry them, they can win. If either of these two isn't carrying hard and they have to rely on NiKo and hunter instead, they won't be getting through playoffs and winning in finals.
2023-01-25 22:40
Tough game > overpushing > dead > choking they're always like that

Time will tell. If they can replicate their level of teamplay from Blast World Finals, definitely. I haven't seen CS played at that level with such confidence in quite some time. For the first time, they were winning comfortably and off of comms and strats rather than just shooting better. They're off to a good start this year, but they're not as good as they were during BWF, probably because of the player break. If they can warm up to that level again, they're definitely ahead of every other team atm, it's just a matter of who will start catching up first. I think it's impossible for an era to begin right now for any team.
2023-01-25 23:07
I know they've only won one tournament last year, but G2 has actually been consistently contending, just always failing at the end. I was convinced they weren't, until I saw their record, they ended very far into most big tournaments.

They have not faced difficoulty for quite some time now. Kovacs weakness is malding and I cant say its gone unless we see it doesnt happen when things dont go their way.
2023-01-25 23:20
g2 is the fresh
2023-01-25 23:20
Really hoping so 🙏 ! I really like m0nesy and would be nice to see win a major. Though I fear this is a repeat of last year where they start well and then fall off.
2023-01-25 23:34
I think so tbh. I think they're a true top 1 rn, but FaZe is probably in close contention
2023-01-25 23:38
if faze can with karrigan why shouldnt g2 be able to with hooxi
2023-01-25 23:45
Need a plan to adjust, need to work on pace changes. They win like 8 rounds then run out of steam and start getting read. Will be interesting to see how the navi rematch goes

It’s amazing to see how much better G2 became after they improved their system + teamplay and HooXi and JKS stepping up. HooXi’s igling package improved so much as well as his individual skill and JKS is adjusting really well in the system. I know it’s only the start of 2023 but I feel like this year is gonna be a big FaZe Vs G2 rivalry, they were the two teams with the best form since World Finals and Blast Spring Groups currently. Like you said, if JKS can improve his T-Side Lurks, G2 will be a force to be reckoned with and I feel like Faze could be also be a monster team if they get k0nfig to replace rain.
2023-01-26 00:01
if Hunter and m0nesy continue to turn up and help Niko they will always have the firepower to be contenders.
