what actually happens when a nuclear warhead is shot down in the atmosphere btw? Is there a full nuclear explosion and if so what happens to the radiation? Does it essentially just deflagrate in the sky or can it come down onto the earth surface and still have consequences?

history.nasa.gov/conghand/nuclear.htm this is what happens when it is detonated in space. If it is detonated in the atmosphere radiation and heat would be hazardous also the light would probably blind people

no it doesnt explode if shot down, the chemical process is very delicate and if any parts of it are destroyed the reaction cant happen
