NAF International?
 |
United States Outl1er
As much as I love Liquid, they look like shit. NAF is way too good for this team, and as arguably a top 5 support/anchor, I believe his talent could take a lot of international teams to the next level. For example imagine G2 with NAF instead of JKS. That team would be unstoppable, or even FaZe replacing rain with NAF, and pushing either Twistzz or Karrigan into the entry role. Another one would be vitality, in which you replace dupreeh and revert apex back to the entry. I feel as though any of these moves(except maybe the faze one) would be a clear upgrade for both parties.

NAF holds the same roles as JKS, literal one to one. He still manages to be the highest performer on his team. If you were to go role to role Niko > yekindar hunter > Elige JKS <<< NAF Hooxi = nitr0 m0nesy >>> osee The pieces around JKS are better which inflates his rating due to his team having better performances. I will admit he looked lights out at Blast, however NAF still out performed him.

having better players around you doesn't make your rating better, adr + kpr + impact are more important than potential low dpr and high kast

Just because its less important, doesn't mean it isn't important. Plus better players will set you up to trade better. Ever wonder why the winning team tends(not always) to have higher ratings even if a player on the winning team may have seemed like he performed worse than someone on the losing team?
2023-02-01 21:39
NAF is better than JKS but jks is very very good and more than good enough to keep his spot. But most importantly, if G2 keeps winning like they have been, they will NOT want to make roster changes. Ironically, i think NAF to FaZe is far more likely than him going to a peak G2 , since Rain is clearly in his late stage of cs career. But personally, i would love to see NAF replacing Brollan on NiP, that's where i think he'd succeed the most, if NAF replaced JKS on G2 that would not be good for NAF because when you have NiKo and m0nesy i doubt he'll get much space to shine as a star, let alone in FaZe. On NiP though, he'd have a legit igl, they already decided to speak English, REZ is a great support, k0nfig is really good...if headtr1ck can be decent with the awp, they'd be far better than Liquid is rn.

it would just go to karrigan and twistzz entry, naf would be support/anchor and ropz would stay in a lurk role. they could also give broky some more opening positions on tside so there are many ways they could fill the rain gap.

True, I just don't know if karrigan can keep up in the entry game anymore, I feel like entry fraggers stepped up their game big time in 2021 and 2022.

I'm not saying it's necessarily worth upgrading, but if NAF were to replace JKS it would be an upgrade in every sense, if we count NAF as 100% capability, I would say JKS has about 70-80%

Based on what? Certainly not rating. jks did not play for literally 6 months before joining G2. Since he joined, he has a 1.12 CT rating vs top 20 compared to 1.10 for NAF. If we exclude that first event back where he was finding form, jks jumps to a 1.16 for his time in G2 If we only look at the past two events for current form, jks is at 1.23 vs 1.09 for NAF (again, vs top 20) NAF is the overall superior player but you can’t make a stats based argument that NAF has been a better CT side player.

dupreeh is entrying and apex is playing support, NAF is a support not lurk. so push apex back to the roles he used to shine in as entry and put NAF in as support, it's a win win.

Okay just because he stopped doesn't mean it was because he was bad, it was because he was giving up space for new players to shine. While I agree reflexes and aim go down with time, familiarity is also something that can sharpen ones skills beyond age, This is why at certain positions even old players can perform well beyond their years such as rain or Krimz.
2023-02-02 21:12
NAF isn't a true lurk like spinx tho tbh. He's more of a passive T rifler and a bombsite anchor on CT. Yek1ndar is usually more of a "traditional lurker" than NAF imo

Maybe, but even at the end of last year Elige hasn't been himself since pre-covid(still good, but not next best rifler after niko good), osee is just not it, yekindar is solid, and nitr0 is just meh as an igl. Without NAF this team would arguably be outside the top 15.

You're underselling Elige pre-covid. He was literally better than Niko in 2019, partially because Niko was slumping but also since Elige was straight up rifle device that year. During the Liquid grand slam run, he was probably the second best player in the world after only zywoo, since simple wasn't playing enough events to get his numbers up.

When would he have left? NAF last extended his contract in 2021, when Covid was going on and going to an EU team meant not being able to travel and see his family at all. He's signed on until the end of this year, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he tries to get out after this major cycle. This is actually the time that it would make the most sense for him to leave.

Sure he does. He's making 6 figures at Liquid. He's happy if he can spend time with his girlfriend and he's with one of his best friends. And 'mediocre' after making two finals at the end of the year is pretty silly. Gotta give this Yekindar squad atleast half a year.

NAF doesn't have any options other than ENCE and NIP if he goes international Faze: Ropz, stays Vitality: Spinx, stays MOUZ: Frozen, Stays G2: Jks, will stay until g2 loses form at least Fnatic: KRIMZ, stays(also fnatic arguably is also not exactly t1) ENCE: Valde, pretty good for NAF to replace NIP: Hampus, if he stays away too long and they don't get k0nfig. Astralis, C9, Heroic, Navi = Not international

People also forget that NAF has played nearly every role in the book, I think with vitality the removal of dupreeh and apex taking on the entry fragging, the gap that would be left(a more supportive role), would be perfect for him. FaZe like I said not a perfect fit and imo a player like patsi would be better.

why would NAF want to change his roles, potentially hurting his game, when his strength is how good he is in said roles?

Because his roles have gone under equal change throughout the last 4 years of roster changes, where his rating has remained consistent in all roles. NAF self admittedly was the one to change roles when necessary.

NAF role changes were pretty minimal, still a very passive player. You won't find enough space for it, teams will be doubful of this move when you have too many passive players on one team (see astralis)

I mean passivity can extend into other roles, you can have a passive lurker, support, star, or even entry(though a passive entry rarely works, think someone who will slowly and methodically take sites vs a wide swing to catch someone off guard). In vitality he would still be able to play passive, anchoring a site on ct and playing as the last man in in the entry pack supporting his teammates with nades and trading off them.
2023-02-01 23:06
I think NAF's options are limited if he wants to go international. I don't see G2, FaZe, or Vitality making roster moves unless one of them seriously underperforms this season. Liquid is better and pays more than a team like ENCE. I think Liquid should have at least a season with this lineup, and if they still don't figure it out, replace oSee or nitr0 or let NAF leave

I agree, I think it would be more a paycheck issue though than an upgrade issue. FlameZ < Yekindar but not by much f1ku/neofrag < elige Nexa >>> nitr0 Degster >>> oSee Plus OG just seem way more competitive in this current environment than liquid due to their immaculate teamplay. At the end of the day though I do agree that between Liquid being rich, and OG being notoriously stingy the incentive wouldn't be there.
