So im building a pc, actually its not me building it, since im not too good at pc hardware shit So the components that im getting for now are: Rtx 3060 i9 12th gen 32gb ddr5 ram 2tb hdd 500gb ssd and i think 850 watt psu (idk much about the rest) so ive been told by a bunch of people that the rtx 3060 is not good enough for the i9 12th gen, and also even the 2080ti is much better. So now im not sure which gpu to get (only nvidia), so can yall help me out with this, the budget is exactly 1640.01 euros and i have a few months to spend it before i lose the money. I need smth compatible with the i9 12th gen, and something thats actually good enough for it, and also it shouldnt cause a bottleneck ofc.

If you only want nvidia and have a closed budget is not like you can get anything a lot better, maybe you can change the cpu from i9 to i7 and spend that extra to see if you can get 3070 or wait to see if new 4060 (unknown if they are gonna appear soon or in a couple of months) are cheaper with same performance.

techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-40.. There you go no need to wait for benchmarks. Honestly, 2070 super and 2080s are really cheap and might be worth even considering those. But depends on the games you play.

What? Those relative performance are unknown since there's nothing more than leaks, but according to them the new 4060Ti that's the one that should be released by next month it will work like a 3070ti with less power consumption and similar price $4-500, probably the 4060 will work similar to a 3070. It's a lot of money for a 60's so it doesn't worth the upgrade, but if someone is in 1xxx series or lower, it can be a nice one even it's pricey. 2070 and 2080 are moreless discontinued, so most of the places I can find are more than 500, which is gonna be similar to that 4060ti but that one is gonna have less consumption and probably will be a little more future proof in terms of drivers and those dlss 3 and shit, that's pretty much nonsense now but it can work in the future.

There is a used market you know? I bought a 2080ti when they announced the 3000 series even before the 3000 series launched, because Nvidia said the 3070 was faster than the 2080ti nobody wanted the 2080ti and guess what I paid 600 for a GPU that idiots sold and they couldn't even buy the 3070 due to a shortage. The GPU die is leaked you can pretty accurately calculate the performance using the existing architecture we get from the 4070ti,4080&4090 and using the core count of the GPU. Worst case scenario techpowerups prediction will be a 5% overestimation or underestimation. I'm not saying the 4060 ti is a bad GPU just in my area 2080s are 200 Euros used and sometimes even less if you don't mind a blower cooler. It's not going to be much faster than a 2080 and DLSS 3 is the only feature I would care about (the OP might care about some of the other features) considering how next generation will be a massive upgrade compared to the disappointing 4000 series there's at least an argument to buy 2080 if you can get it for around 180-210 euros and swap it out in 18 months for the next generation card. Driver support will have to last a lot longer than you think for the 2000 series because Nvidia are still producing the rtx 2060 (due to the chip shortage) and the most popular GPU on steam according to the hardware survey is the gtx 1650. GPU sales are at a 20-year low because the 2nd hand market has so many good deals and the 4000 series is a disappointment. tomshardware.com/news/sales-of-desktop-g..

The point is 4060 will hardly be faster than a 2080 probably costing 150-200 euros more and you can't buy it today. If you live in a country that doesn't have a great used market you're kind of screwed and have to buy new.

AMD BETTER
2023-02-02 17:22
Nah brother, there's few reasons NOT to buy an AMD GPU anymore, they've improved drastically in the last few generations. The driver issues that used to be commonplace are very scarce nowadays, the the heat is a non-issue too. Essentially, the only reason not to buy an AMD card would be features, annd that can be a dealbreaker for some. I freely admit that Raytracing is just better on nVidia, and while AMD has been trying to improve, the nVenc hw encoder is significantly better than what AMD has to offer, at least until AV1 takes off (and even then only the new gen of cards supports that)

"were trash", yes, they WERE trash but the current gen lineup from AMD is just as good as Ngreedias, especially for gaming.

get 12700kf or even 12600kf and upgrade the gpu to 3070 at least, i9 is overkill. For this spec it's also better just to get really good ddr4 rather than ddr5, cause you'll just get what will end up being low frequency ddr5 as it's not mainstream yet.

ik i9 is a lil overkill, but i need this pc to be good in 6-10 years lol i think that the 3070 or 3080 will be good enough right
2023-02-02 16:22

The only difference between i7 and i9 is binned silicon in i9 making it clock a bit higher. In fact a good i7 can even match or surpass the average i9. i7 or i9 it doesn't matter. At the absolute worst case scenario maybe 8% performance difference but I highly doubt it. On average its more like 2-3% but i7 is lot cheaper- also both will last the same.
2023-02-02 17:36
The i9 is literally 5% faster the money you saved on the i7 would be the cost of an upgrade 5 years. There's really no point.
2023-02-07 09:58
DDR5 does not look promising at all, high frequencies and high prices DDR4 is the way to go and i dont think the improvement of ddr5 will be considerable in the next 5 years
2023-02-03 11:28
get 3070 at least, i9 is overkill

2023-02-02 16:22
man just upgrade to a 3060 ti. The 3060 ti is closer to a 3070 than it is a 3060. Also, if you're worried about future proofing, wait until you have a better budget and splash on a 3080 or something 40 series. My 9700k +3070 still runs most games fine, except for CS but I run it at 2k cause I like looking at me skins tehehe.

ye i could do that, i could also go for a 3080, but ofc its more expensive so i will see im working with this budget atm because i have to spend it and i got it for free basically, so im not actually using any of my money, and i can add some more cash to it

From what I read, you want one with longevity. I would steer clear of the lower ones. 3060, although 12gb of ram, performs on par with 2080 cards. 3060 TI and 3070s are locked at 8 GB of ram, which is likely not going to be enough in the future. 3080 only have 10 GB of ram, which also may not be enough. I know I get capped at some games with my 3070. Granted, it's maxed out graphics @ 1440p, but if thats what you want you're gonna want more VRAM. I would seriously recommend either waiting to splurge on a higher-end gpu, or if you're in a rush, get an AMD card. I say this as a certified AMD hater, but in the long run the added VRAM will make a difference.
2023-02-02 16:40
You should be able to get a RX 6700XT for the same price pretty much. If you don't care about RT then you should defenitely go for it instead. It's a lot better.

If it is for mostly gaming then downgrade the cpu to an i7-12700k or i5-13600k, as these will perform the same in games as the i9. Then use the extra money to upgrade the gpu.

I've heard that you have to update 600 series bios before you put in a 13th gen intel. So if you don't have a 12th gen intel or don't have any friend who owns one (you could ask him if he can borrow to you his processor to update bios on your new motherboard), you won't be able to make it work
2023-02-02 17:33
The 3060s are fucked. Some models have lower performance compared to the 30-series release date models (6GB) while having higher VRAM. You'd really have to research it to know which ones are the best. IMO just get the 3060 Ti. Or an AMD GPU.

I mean i dont really see any problems with my 3080+5600x 1080p even with raytracing(dsr 2.25+dlss) which is trash anyway and not worth it in almost every game. The only games that have dropped below 60fps are cyberpunk in cpu intensive locations and witcher 3 with a garbage dx12 implementation so it struggles on any card.

strictly for gaming its really not worth going over the i5 tier cause in 95% of games it'll offer u the same performance as i7/i9 and in the remaining 5% the difference will be as small as 3-6% performance. Besides if you take a closer look at the stock clocks of for example 13th i5 13600k and i7 13700k you'll notice that i7 or i9 have higher stock clocks, so if you buy they i5 and OC it slightly so its clocks are the same as in i7 or i9, it should offer you litterally the same performance in 99% of games. In other words, go for i513600kf/k or i512600kf/k and invest into a slightly better gpu to make it more future proof.
