nah it happens everywhere in our country , just rural parts . that's why its very rare know factor of indian culture . don't know much about south but in north and north eastern part and mid part its still a practice not as much common .

Happens in tamil state and south india but Indians do play loud music in narrow streets everyday Indians become so used to it they gets hypnotised without them knowing it they play loud music in temples from early 5am to around 9am then they play again from 5 pm to 8pm non-stop they loves to honk their vehicles there's not a sec passed without 10 cars and mixed with motorcycles without honking it's just nonstop honking from early morning to night then there's marriages gathering people play even louder music nonstop for couple of days

Dude I have seen your previous comments , am really not in mood of going back and forth . with some fellow Indian . if you ever get a chance go in rural India , like a small village or some sort and look how they celebrate their festivals , and rituals , There are really tiny details in everything little things they do . i used to be arrogant about our culture as well but recently after more then 12 years i visited our village and my prospective changed . i think its maturity , when we grow up we see life with different perspective .

I am from mid india. " thaipusam " it happens mostly during Navratri festival , its a hindu festival in honor of goddess Durga . and its pretty common practice in rural india , not particularly connected to Navratri festival , i have seen this practice during mahashivratri festivals where its dedicated to god Shiva .
