BIG = career graveyard
Germany stahlitz
I just realized that BIG probably had more players retiring (or become irrelevant) from pro cs than any other team: tiziaN (retired) nex (where is he?) gade (retired) smooya (streamer now) enkay J (retired) tow b (retired) DuDe (retired) LEGIJA (retired) keev (retired) gob b (came back as coach, I give it that) if you really want to dig deep: luckeRRR (went to valorant) kakafu (went to unicorns, now retired) The only players that didn't end their career after being part of BIG were: xantares (even bigger meme team) denis (retired from Sprout) and tabseN, k1to, syrsoN (unknown), Krimbo obviously

yes, I am only talking about retiring from being active players, most of the former german players still have some position in the BIG org

Wich makes this whole thread kinda nonsense (or i misunderstood the attention behind it) since enkay J was never a player in BIG, smooya never going to work in - name a random team, LEGIJA went into other intern roles after literally WINNING his last A-Tier tournement with BIG as a player (also played since 2012, so oh wounder that older players retire). I could go on with the other players aswell, but I think you just wanted to make a thread to vent a bit after the news that Syrson benched himself wich is fine. Sad BIG got other problems and AWP wasnt one of it - i personally think.

I would say being a coach is still being part of the actual game, more so than analysts. You still have a skill that can be valuable to others even if you do not succeed. Look at how coaches switch teams just like actual players, they don't have to be part of the organization like in BIG. They are careers as well, which in BIGs case means that none of their coaches ever went further than this org. They either directly retired because of personal reasons (enkayJ, tow b) or werent good enough to justify being picked up.

I wouldnt argue about being a coach is being part of the team and also has impact on the actual game, yeah ofc. I just wanted to state it since you wrote more then once that you mean players (and players being still active players after they played for BIG).

Hm, the only candidates I can think of that actually ended their career directly or indirectly were YNK and kjaerbye. liquidpedia also lists fox, cromen and kioshima although he played in envy for some time

TiziaN washed Nex medical problems + lack of motivation Gade - age + washed Smooya - toxic washed enkaj J - coach Tow b - coach DuDe - coach LEGIJA - coach keev - valorant gob b - coach half of the people on this list still work for Big most of them are in the org itself (analysts managers ceos or anything else)

yes, but I am talking about retiring from active play (gob b is kind of a gray zone) of any kind

obv they would retire they are all old (smooya isnt but he is smooya so you understand why he didnt make it in tier 1) you cant be good at 30 (if you are igl you can tho) but you can be coach or simply work for Big and get ez money . TiziaN is washed on the end of his Career the reason is that a lot of players from your list played for big for big amount of their careers you cant really expect to see players like TabseN k1to SyrsoN TiziaN to be tier 1 again because they were there whole careers in Big

Correlation isn’t causation. Also: tiziaN= cool dude but just not very Good Nex= Great Talent who could never live up to his hype consistently, also problems with injuries gade= would have retired 6 months sooner to become an actor in adult entertainment if BIG didn’t sign him smooya= had many more chances after BIG but blew them due to lack of self discipline enkaj j = yeah you might have a point with him Tow B = prefers making tons of money with Skinbaron while spending more time with his family, big respect to him Dude = wasn’t really relevant before BIG to begin with Legija = was at the end of his career as a player when BIG was founded anyway, tried his luck with Envy but Envy is a joke Keev = became a Bodybuilder gob b = as you said, still very active in CS Luckerrr = joined BIG with only 3000 hrs in game was a total gamble that didn’t pay of for anyone, plays Valo for BIG now

Yeah but one thing that is pretty uncommon: BIG doesnt produce talents, they acquire it and burn it. No player they use is picked up by any other team afterwards, they either change to coach/analyst or retire. There is never the story of that one kid that used to play in BIG like two years ago and now is top 20 candidate. This tells a lot about BIG as a team: Nobody sees them as a stepping stone to better teams.

XANTARES?????

He was a good player before joining BIG, I wouldn't have called him a "talent" when he joined BIG, he joined when he peaked and didn't get a better team afterwards. I am 99% sure if others would have seen him as a talent as well he would have went to a different international team and not run into certain T3 hell. If cplx, faze, mouz or any other decent team would have offered him a spot he would have taken it but there were no offers since he wasn't a talent anymore when he left BIG, no room for improvement.

Sure, its all speculation but its the most rational one. Why on earth would he chose this step exactly at this point of his career? He could have done it 2,3 even 5 years later, the other turkish players would have still been there. If he had the dream of turkish team and gotten an offer from a T1 org, he would said to himself: Ok, lets try to learn as much as possible from a T1 org and get experience that I can share afterwards.

I understand your misknowledge about his career plan because you don't understand his streams. He said even before joining BIG (which he was not as good as when he left) FaZe and mousesports wanted him (there are probably more t1 orgs can't remember all of them rn) He also said his reasons to refuse FaZe invite I can tell you that aswell if you want. His main reason of leaving BIG was his language problem. We all know his english is not enough, yes he improved a lot but he was still not good enough. He always suffered not talking to someone fluently in germany, he didn't have many friends there as far as we know. And his gf (current wife) was in Turkey. Reaching top 1 ranking was his dream and he achieved his dream. By the time he was age of 26 and he clearly didn't want to end his career in a foreign country for the reasons I said. He wanted to end his career in his homeland with the team consists of the best turkish players.

Well yeah because Big picks up okay-ish to good talent and makes them perform better than they otherwise could since they're the best german speaking team.

The language is a non-argument here since every player on BIG can communicate perfectly fine in english. If an (international) team would really think that BIG players were valuable they could take them instantly.

The language is still important because international teams need to have much stronger individuals than national teams to compensate for lack of teamwork All of the Big players except Tabsen and maybe Syrson at times are playing in a much better team than they could ever land on internationally because the german language factor boosts their performance so they can keep up with the better teams in the scene just by teamwork and communication

I mean you can't say that about syrsoN as he never played internationally. I dont know where exactly I read it but he said something along: "I always want to get in a team where everyone plays better than me, otherwise I wont feel a reason to make an effort.". It is absolutely possible that he will go international. tabseN is also not a good example since he never ever played outside his friendzone. What most people don't know: tabseN used to play with chrisJ, spiidi and other germans even before he joined penta. Then he joined NRG still playing with LEGIJA and gob b. We still don't know how tabseN would play with "a new team". He himself said that he can only enjoy "playing with friends" but my unasked opinion is that he is afraid to actually see how good his is on his own.

You could make that same list about any org that's been a while in csgo Nip, Fnatic, Navi, etc.

The only player from NiP that actually retired directly was fifflaren (and THREAT (coach)) everyone else had a team afterwards With NaVi you have a good point: guardian, Zeus, flamie, Edward (and boombl4 lmao) but those players played in 1.6 so I would say they got the most out of their career time, it is not expected to perform for 10 years. Same goes for fnatic which actually has a crazy amount of former players (I checked all on liquidpedia, their list is by far the longest) so they naturally have more retired players

You say that about the Navi guys but the same goes for Gob B and Legija on Big, and you included coaches as well it seems which these teams also had a few that probably didn't get another gig afterwards. Smooya had a few teams after leaving Big and Gade tried to link up with danish talent after becoming a free agent but failed and only retired 4 months after terminating the contract with Big I think your list becomes much smaller when you adjust for these factors, or at least looks the same as other teams
2023-02-08 17:29
kakafu is assistant coach at OG luckerrr was more of a standin and afterwards was at fnatic academy before switching + hes still in the org as valo player gob was main part of the quite successful BIG valorant team so where is the problem keev is a quiet shareholder of BIG now and also transformed completely (bodywise) Legija is a Valorant coach if im not mistaken Dude still is an assistant coach for big according to his twitter just not headcoach tow b got an offer by skinbaron and thatswhy stepped back from BIG himself enkayj is coach of this stupid faceit gucci academy thing so not retired as well smooya had enough teams and tryouts afterwards... honestly his own fault it never worked out nex retired because of wrist problems they just couldnt get fixed -> he is shareholder of BIG now tizian maybe comes back but his removal seemed to have hit him quite hard so ye maybe he completely retired so almost everyone found a new home or another, for them, better life... so not really that bad...

Yeah, the title clickbait title made it sound worse than I meant, I think most of them are content with their current position although I am not sure about nex. If you watch old VLOG of him being at tournaments during CS:S times he was always laughing and joking around. The last year of him playing csgo he looked completely broken and empty and then vanished. He doesn't post anything online anywhere and didn't play any match on any account, he didnt even log into steam. Maybe he deliberately does it but I fear he might be in some kind of therapy.

Wasnt lucker that kid that had like 3k hours or something when he joined big, obviously super talented and then they bullied him so badly that he quit csgo altogether? Or am I thinking of someone else?
2023-02-08 22:07
except of gob, tabsen (legends) and maybe gade (danish) noone of this list would be in hltv thread without big organisation, so there's nothing to discuss here
2023-02-08 22:13
Denis (Alternate Attax), Enkay J and Kakafu (OG) are still active as players or coaches.

The reason for it is definitely that the individuals just aren't that great on their own but BIG always gets a lot out of the players
2023-02-08 22:20
XANTARES could complement many t1 teams and is still very good, but made that choice himself
