Before EPL, it was a decently known fact that G2 didn't play Vertigo that often, and that was mentioned plenty of times in the Heroic Vs G2 final, as none of those teams played Vertigo frequently.
However, it wasn't known that G2 was lacking so heavily in Vertigo before C9 battered them there (granted Sh1ro playing mad cs and g2 individuals playing badly).
That game exposed G2 on Vertigo, and made it apparent for any team playing them in the future that picking Vertigo might be their best chance to get a chance at a series vs them.
That would make the average reader think that would be a bad thing for G2, but actually it was very positive. As G2 only had lower tier teams to play against up, when Vertigo got picked, the easier opposition didn't really pose a risk, and gave G2 both practice time on the map (that they were lacking considering the lack of practice time) and some respect on it.
Now a team that isn't a Vertigo specialist or strong on it will be forced to think twice about picking it against them, wich saved G2's top spot for now imo

Sure, stats froma year where both niKo and m0NESY had a way worse team, and where ax1le and sh1ro played way less maps
Ax1le isnt clear of NiKo because he got a 0.01 rating advantage. NiKo is the best riffler in the world, as he has been in the last years. Sh1ro stats are mega inflated from saving

It happened, shit happens, their individuals had a bad day and they faltered + IHC had a bit of luck with all those noscopes on Inferno in those stupid clutch rounds but thats in the dirt already
How does it matter now? I might sound like GamerDoc but... we just took down the #1 in the world and all the people can think of to say is that G2 didn't show up.. sorry I just had no other way of saying it
But yes indeed, you have a great point, just like how they lost to Greyhound and Fnatic, but that loss didn't matter because they went to the champions stage anyway. FURIA also lost to IHC, many upsets happened in Katowice. The only thing we can sa is that IHC did their homework and grinded before the tournament and totally deserved their wins.
I can blame the loss of Cloud9 against IHC on communication issues, the C9WIN twitter account did a video on this and it actually gives you a new perspective, they clearly weren't comfortable communicating with buster and didn't say a lot of stuff they were doing. We can see that's not the case in EPL.

Shiro is better than anyone in G2 and Axile is the best rifler out of anyone in the two teams (though it's very close between Axile and Niko at the moment).
Hobbit looks like he's getting back his 2021 form and buster is getting used to the swing of things.

how C9 has more firepower when they rely in 2 players only? although G2’ best players is m0nesy and niko, hunter is also pretty consistent and jks os doing way better than last year.
if we’re being honest here that win against G2 wasn’t much of a big deal, group stage match, literally none in G2 showed up not even the star players.
even nafany hobbit & buster is having a 1.20+ rating in epl so far, which we know pretty well it won’t last in playoffs.
C9 vertigo is the best but yeah helped G2 to fix a lot of gaps and i think thats apply for every team
keep it simple and just pick MIRAGE.
G2 will lose it 100 %.
then second map can be Anubis.
Decider map vertigo.
G2 0-3 again.

They are pick mirage, inferno and nuke. Their ancient and Anubis are good enough where other teams need to main ancient or anubis to reliably punish pick. Vertigo sample size is too small to say anything about it.
I see the point but they lost Nuke vs fntc. They just faced low prepared compatition. Once teams get back to their forms G2 wont be able to take titles that easy

I mean they destroyed Fnatic on the other two maps. The reality is G2 players are playing bad. Niko is having his worst event in like 3 years, Hunter his worst event in over a year, and Hooxi his worst event in like 7 months, yet they are still making playoffs.
There is no amount of prep that happened from katowice grand final to now that allowed Teams to suddenly beat G2 16-4 on Nuke lol

Maybe I did rephraze wrong. Didnt mean preparation for matches but also mental one after a break.
All in all I think G2 didnt improve, other played a bad event. If they faced prime faze or prime navi i cant see a universe where they win Katowice.

Well they did.
Outsiders won Major and before Rio last big event was EPL16 I guess.
After that just Katowice can be S-tier.
Faze sucked for months, Vitality did nothing except EPL16, so as Liquid, Heroic was consistently good and near but they lost to EG at Blast and played bellow pair vs G2 in finals.
G2 missed the Major and had all the time in world to prep for less relevant events. They did click for Blast and Kato but that's about it.
EPL showing is not stomping everyone just few weeks ago.
They didn't improved much, Kato was a fluke win and only hardcore delusional G2 flairs can claim the opposite.
For Faze part, I don't know but prime faze looked few levels above Kato G2

World finals is s tier. You can cope and say it’s not but HLTV and liquipedia say it is.
I can’t imagine calling a 20+ map streak a fluke lol. G2 have played 4 events which featured playoffs. They made at least semis at 3 and won 2. Objectively the only events they failed were RMR and fall finals. Outsiders Major win was a much bigger fluke.

That's a lot of text for saying almost nothing.
G2s nuke was starting to look shaky in the last few times they played it, a lot of teams had tonnes of info to look at them plus they’ve been playing quite a bit lately so no time to rest and prep new stuff meaning it’ll probably rely a lot on the individuals each day and their state of mind. The mental coach also didn’t come to epl which may make things a bit harder.
Hooxi said that the vertigo match was really good for them because it allowed them to fix a bunch of mistakes so when the next 2 teams picked it they won off of fixing it. Since they are playing more vertigo it’s great for their map pool, I kinda see nuke and inferno as the maps they need to work on redeveloping.
C9 also had a really good game plan against them, it looked like they setup for reads and pushes in vertigo multiple times at the start of the map which punished then conditioned g2 to start playing reactive, which means they are down info on the rest of the map.
Also in that c9 vertigo match losing duels when someone is camping somewhere that was near the other bomb site that wasn’t hit when there’s 10 secs left multiple times was probs pretty tilting, after the conditioning it looked like they lost heaps of aim duels on inferno which sealed their loss against c9.
Would be awesome to see g2 have an overpass but not gonna happen unfortunately.
