I know everyone calls the MLS shit but it's nice to see a lot of investment in growing the football scene here. Also, the poor defensive play leads to pretty fun offensive play, watching the MLS is actually incredibly fun even if it's not nearly as high skill as football elsewhere

(relegation) You´re talking about Brighton, the Club? They have done well this season, defating several Top 6
2023-03-20 02:52
I'm not one point from *relegation* Leicester is.

debateable, Most signing the USA do are players who are washed in EU or can get a fat paycheck at old age in the USA. There is barely any young developing talent that goes from NA to EU, or actually comes from EU to NA. it's more a competition to see solid NA/South NA players or old good names from EU play each other. I used to watch MLS at night in the weekends, but it's not as enjoyable anymore. Second division in my own country has the same level of play and is way more fun to watch cus no VAR. therefore dumb decisions and clear fouls sometimes get overlooked which is hilarious.

MLS is half old talent from EU/SA and like half upcoming talent. Some decent talent from the Americas comes thru the MLS (most recently from my team would be Miguel Almiron). With enough investment and enough money in the scene, we might actually see upcoming EU talent opt to come to the MLS (if paychecks can eventually get high enough). Some already do, maybe one day we'll have more

the issue is that the MLS does not have something like a champions league where players can shine and make insane transfers. if you guys had a champions league with very solid teams attending it could be worthwhile, but even with investing into your football competition, playing in EU will always be more attractive as it has and gives more chances to break through. I really don't think high paychecks is gonna change much.

Send the MLS cup winner to UCL! (for the memes lmao they'd get rolled) In all seriousness yeah that would be cool. MLS is still new, so maybe eventually something like that would happen

it's not that new really, i've been watching for quite some years now. issue is just it's a single 1 continent competition, and Americans don't care too much about football. and even if you guys would create an NA champions league with Mexico and Canada, I still don't think it's more appealing than the champions league. whereas compared in Basketball or Baseball, those sports aren't as big in Europe as in NA (not counting eastern europe in basketball ofc). I don't see the MLS ever grow into a big competition, but yes it can be entertaining to watch. I personally prefer a competition where teams are equal and trying their best over a competition ruled by Egos earning 400M a year. that's why Eredivisie is so fun this year; anyone from 6th and below can beat each other and there is like 10 teams in the race for relegation at this point. hella enjoyable to watch.

Well yeah the root of NA football problems stems with nobody caring about football. You literally get bullied in school for liking football (dead serious.) Until the stigma around football goes away, it'll never be as good as European leagues. Again, maybe one day, but not for a while

exactly why I'm mentioning it. no worries, you'll get there one day. keep on enjoying the MLS! PS: I mostly watched due to Frank De Boer being coach of Atlanta back in the day, as I am a supporter of Ajax. Tomorrow we have Ajax-Feyenoord, biggest rivalry in the country at 14:30 Dutch time. (so in 15 hours and 15 minutes from now). it's a match worth watching!

And oh my, what a match it was!
2023-03-20 00:35
There is already a champions league in NA and last year Seattle was the first MLS team to win the current version of it. I guess that's progress. The main issues I see with the MLS is travel time between cities and the coverage/marketing of NA football in general. I honestly prefer attending MLS games over the NHL as it doesn't feel as corporate. I was at Montreal's game last night, insane finish with them scoring two goals in stoppage time to win it 3-2.

2023-03-18 23:08
Lmao you guys will see Almada in Europe next year
2023-03-19 02:53
Yeah it’s fun to watch, a bit like pugs in CS, in a good way. However #3 also makes some really good points, I don’t feel like the MLS actually develops well looking forward

Teams from NA should join teams from SA in a single competition. We have better teams and young player development, and you guys have money. But also, football in USA should be like the rest of the world and not like franchises. I think this model of competition with drafts and so on will never be competitive with the rest of the world.

+1 league systems with promotion and demotion would be much better. But it's gonna stay franchised forever likely

2023-03-20 00:12
I think that in the future can become a competitive league, with more investment and if the people support and leave nfl lul But they should hire more SA players, cuz NA and EU player play very robotic, SA player are more dribbling. Sometimes even the defenders in europa look like statues, that's why it was easy for Messi to dribble
2023-03-20 00:22

yeah the SA players are awesome. but there's also limits on the amount of non-americans you can have otherwise the league would be 100% SA lol

Its a fact men, english championship is better than MLS, even the farmers league is 10 times better than MLS. Its ok to admit that americans suck at football but america is the best at basketball and vice versa.

i mean we're getting better, we literally just made top 16 at WC. but i assure you that the Hungarian league or some shit is not better than the MLS. A lot of, maybe even most Euro leagues are better, but i'd place MLS like top 20-25 internationally.

mls has potential if they start throwing money in it as they do in the other sports like nfl nba nhl baseball... and they have the infrastructure and schools for early development but we know they wont do it

yes it needs more investment at all levels. even in high school, the football/soccer teams will NOTHING compared to the American football programs, at least where i am. but yes, as viewership grows and money does as well, it will hopefully get better

MLS is improving It always had pace, but lacked skill and tactics. It appears to me, that maybe the average MLS player is smaller than most european teams, maybe because the biggest US players go to other sports?
