Nobody wants it to look like RDR2 anyway. Just the fact that it will make it easier for the devs to create new content makes me excited because it likely means more content. Also, I would be happy with just a new operation and map pool, I don't want some flashy graphics.

People were hyped with the HUB update and almost wet their own pants by seeing a preview of it before making it in CS:GO. Because now is an entire game engine that is being introduce in CS:GO then I think that yeah, is a big deal. Also if they fix the anticheat + 128 tixk servers + community support then I'll take that any day of the week.

Also who'd want CS to look like RDR2, true gamers care about gameplay not graphics. On many accounts, Valve is playing the relevancy game here. E.g., if you want sponsors from the industry to keep backing your game, you will need to refresh it. Engine, graphics, etc. because you want your players to be forced into consuming products from these sponsors. Everyone can play CSGO today even on toasters. That is not very relevant to, say, Intel. Apply the relevancy logics to any income that Valve gains from Counter-Strike (not just the game itself). Relevancy of a "new game" is also just to solidify Steam as the go-to platform for gaming. CSGO and Dota 2 are currently what keeps the majority of players on Steam and this forces both players and developers to use the platform. Valve gains 30% from every Steam sale whether that is a game/ingame content or whatever that is bought/traded via the platform. Having games like CS and Dota is of paramount importance. Hence the focus and hype.

It's a game engine, usually it's one of the biggest updates u can do to a game, and the most complex. So it takes a lot of effort for the game devs. That a "simple port" wouldn't change the game, that's for sure. But every passing day, seems like Valve is preparing something much bigger than just porting everything to the new engine. With content, map remakes, MM remake, and more.. So people are getting more excited. That the devs are not denying it or "slowing it down", and even building up on the hype.. imo means something as well.
