Yes. 15% of Kazakhstan is in the EU and they play in the EU, so I'm assuming that unlike Brazil, which isn't in NA whatsoever, it's applicable to list them as EU, even if geographically inaccurate.

Alexey Golubev is 100% a Russian name, he is Russian Kazakhstani (ethnically Russian) Tulepov is a Kazakh surname though (only the -ov part is Russian) Also buster definitely looks Kazakh with a Kazakh name

Removing the CIS reason and adding them to EU is just so misleading. If people are concerned with it being called CIS and Ukraine not wishing to be part of it they could've just come up with another name for it. They are clearly still their own region compared to EU.

Ah yea, you're right on that then if hltv just went based on what valve did. Imo still poor decision even if CIS countries play in EU qualifiers. Having them as a separate region just makes sense and is clearer.

To be honest it's so stupid I cannot stay aside. Kazakhstan is mainly in Asia but part of it is in Europe. The greater part is in Asia, you say? Then we get this: Turkey is 99% in Asia. Turkey now goes to Asia. Russia is mostly Asia. Asia it is? You fail to understand that Counter-Strike scene doesn't revolve around geographical definitions. They are neither here nor there for the actual game of CS. There is a use in geographical terms, but no one should care about why the border between Europe and Asia is drawn one way or another. It's pointless. Just like a conversation about CIS term is pointless. You can be sure that people who made this ranking page look "illiterate" to you are perfectly aware of the world's geography, but they're also aware of something much more important: words have different meanings in different contexts. While you can keep your knowledge to geography class or something.

When it comes to online matches, Brazil plays with South American teams, while USA plays against North American teams. I have no control over the way the ranking page looks at HLTV, but HLTV should not care about TO allowing Brazilian teams to compete in North American qualifiers. It doesn't make any sense.

Then it would be most logical to combine tabs with North and South America in order to avoid misunderstandings. And with Kazakhstan - return the tabs with the CIS countries. But Ukraine and Georgia stay in Europe. I understand the subtle point, politics, conflicts with the couch troops of twitter, but with the CIS tab everything is much simpler and without any misunderstanding.

I agree that there's a need for a term that would accurately describe a region that speaks Russian, but its absence on the ranking page contradicts having South and North America as separate. These two regions are unable to play together in online tournaments due to ping. Russia, Ukraine, UK, Georgia, Germany all play together.

The CIS is quite a normal option. In extreme cases - the post-Soviet states. But it is necessary to add this, because in cases like the fact that a team consisting of two Kazakhs, two Russians and a Ukrainian presents the European Union is simply ridiculous. Kazakhstan competes in Europe in fair amounts of sports/esports categories including football, futsal etc.. almost since getting its independence one of the most decorated futsal clubs in UEFA Futsal Champions League history is from Kazakhstan(Kairat Almaty) who won two UCL titles and reached 3 grand finals
