There is a single player part, sort of a practice thing against bots.
But why not some proper games meant for single player with storytelling and all, like FarCry, DeusEx, STALKER...

multiplayer bit sparse, but if you have passed lower ranks/promoted/unlock all weapon(and it easy to get promoted) the game will be more enjoyable. though you still die a lot lol
generally people are nice bcs they only have small player base, you will meet the same player many times
you can play the game all you want and keep ignoring objectives, other player wont care. try the demo first if discounted/full price too much for you

fps - quake. follow quake champions channel on twitch and watch QPL sometimes to get motivated.
rts - sc2, aoe4, aoe2. personally i'd go with aoe2. sc2 is semi dead, mostly alive in korea, aoe4 is meh, aoe2 is probably the most popular rts atm. a lot of tourneys too.
fighting games - im not up to date but there is plenty to choose from if you are into that.
