There are two scenarios after the CS2 release:
1) Valve matchmaking is good and becomes the new meta, making Faceit basically empty;
2) Valve matchmaking disappoints and people still play Faceit, but of course elo gained in CS:GO cannot transfer to another game, it's too different.
Either way, in about 2-3 months everyone's Faceit elo will be gone. Like, all the 3k elo 5k matches players will have to start it all over again and calibrate together with silvers. Isn't it crazy?

FACEIT keeps ELOs in their own database and I assume they are linked with steam IDs so migration won't be a big deal.
knowing valve and how lazy they are nothing is actually reprogramed from scratch, it's just new facade on the old shit just how the did with dota 2 on source 2 in 2015, I played it at the time and it was just the same game but worse fps and more bugs, slightly better graphic. Hope that with cs2 it will be better but idk gaben is lazy af

+1 the new engine isnt a killer for faceit... I play faceit for the ranked matchmaking and it just feels more competitive

Not everybody is a 4k semi pro player. 90%+ is below 3k elo, they all want to go pro? NO, ofc. Many people play faceit because its a bigger challenge and cheater-free. So if in the new mm global would mean 3k elo level, tons of people will leave faceit and only semi pros will stay.

If they legitimately upgrade in-game matchmaking with Faceit quality anti-cheat and add public regional rankings with ELO instead of just plain ranking medals, it can very easily turn into the same situation as Dota has.
But then again, if that happens, Faceit is dead and I don't know if it would benefit the scene.

having to pay even 1 dollar keeps like 99% of the idiots outside of serious games. Also, even if ppl hate em having paid staff also helps whatever your opinion on them is.
it would be nice if they made MM alot better so you wouldnt need to play faceit or esportal etc. like its kinda weird that you need to use 3rd party to play competitive nowadays imo.
but it probably wont happen and everything stays the same.

I don't think they'll reset ELO. Especially when the game will be an upgrade to cs go and will replace cs go.

It won't kill them but it definitely will hurt... half of the appeal of Faceit is that they have 128 tick servers. If there is no difference between Faceit and MM servers then people will definitely return to MM. Unless they overhaul the ranking system though there will still be people that play Faceit.
