Well sort of tax haven for companies, but there are many much better tax havens out there and he has to pay income tax for salaries. Estonia has an amazing setup for nomads or freelancers wanting to create a company that does not require initial funding or specific address called e-Residency. Estonia has an incredible system for freelance or 1 person companies that just need an official company registered. As they write "E-Residency of Estonia is a government-issued digital identity which gives global entrepreneurs remote access to the world's most digital country" Which is 100% true and I would recommend this for all freelancers or digital nomads.

read #1 he set up one company in which faze money comes, he takes 10k per month from that company as salary which gets taxed, most of the money is still in companies account which isnt taxed in estonia

Thats understandable tho and not really comparable. Maybe Tarik isnt playing pro but hes also doing his job for org, and hes one of the biggest esport content creators in the world at least in english language. His valo watch parties have bigger numbers than RIOT, and bigger than all of the csgo group stage matches on every tournament except major.

Wdym “could be anything”? Also t2 teams in Valorant have players making $200k a year without counting earnings. Ropz is one of the most successful top pros in CS, it seems logical he would make substantially more no?

2023-03-28 00:57
Seems like a pretty normal salary for a t1 player.
2023-03-28 00:57
Thats not really that special. If you are a mediocre professional football player in my country you make that easy. Ropz is top20 in the world for a few years in a row now.

Football generates a lot more revenue per viewer than esports. Also much more viewers leads to advertisements paying much more to orgs and the organizers. In short, viewers are everything

I know how the system works. I was just pointing out that being in the top of worldwide CS still makes you earn less money than playing for some B-tier football team in a small country like The Netherlands. I understand what the reason behind this is, it still doesnt make me think that 750K for a marjor winning star like ropz is a lot. He probably even works harder than most pro-athlethes do (not comparing CSGO to a physical sport in any other way btw)

I'm sure they make more than most of pro athletes, just not more than football-basketball duo and some other.

2023-03-28 03:12
Not saying that he doesn’t deserve it (because he’s actually part of a very few with big salaries in the pro scene that deserves it) , but seeing how much t1 players are paid really makes us think how sustainable this is on the long term. Most orgs operates under debt in their esports teams backed up by venture capital. The day will come when big investors will get tired of throwing away money on the scene, if CEOs don’t find a way to make it profitable

2023-03-28 04:41
reddit OP got this all wrong. orgs take majority of prize money and ropz would have made most of his earnings from sticker money. his salary could be less than half of 40k a month
2023-03-28 05:17
I feel like I'm actually not surprised that someone in a top 10 team can actually get paid that much. What really DOES surprise me is like.... how can, say, EG sustain like 30 players between CSGO and valorant? I get that winnings don't really matter, it's about marketability. Brands signing on to be on the jersey, etc. But just how do tier 2 teams like Falcons, ATK, etc manage to pay much of anything? I get sponsoring a big name like Faze, liquid, astralis, etc, but just who on earth is sponsoring say K23, or Monte? And again, I get that they pay much less, but I'm surprised they have the ability to pay at all

Venture Capital money backs up the scene for like 80% of orgs Small orgs tho I don’t know how they manage to live. That’s why they doesn’t stick for too long I guess
2023-03-28 05:31

Ah yeah that makes sense. I feel like these venture capital firms are generally not going to get a return on their investment. But maybe it'll pay off in the long run, since esports is still growing and growing. Maybe they have enough money that they can afford to wait. But yeah that's for big orgs. Small orgs are just dead in the water. Maybe the hope is like, say for Movistar riders or BNE or something: if you're the one regional team of a country, local companies like that, and will be willing to sponsor and put their support behind their country.

Yeah, I’d love to know how finances of a team like MR work. Another interesting case are tier 2 NA orgs, some of them pay salaries, others don’t, and the viewership isn’t good, there must be sponsors
