I'm with you here that a lot of politicians are enriching themselves unjustly, but I'm curious what you think of the an argument that if they don't get paid at all, there's even more incentive to accept bribes or favors from lobbyists and other big interests like that.
Besides, it seems that senators and congressmen for instance get paid only like 175k. I get that that's a lot compared to the average American, but it's not like mindblowing 1%er money. By contrast, everyone I know working in tech in NYC gets something similar in base pay alone. Professionals like doctors, lawyers, engineers can easily make more than that in total
Now that I think about it, the majority of the issues involving politicians getting rich probably has to do with "donations"/bribes and insider trading, not their base pay
