the movie is meh at best. The whole point of the book was to show howrandom guys become brothers in the trenches, but in the movie you dont feel any connection.

there's a few different sub genres inside of war movies that I can think of, I'll try to provide a favorite for all of them. pro war - We Were Soldiers anti war - Full Metal Jacket war battle - Black Hawk Down military movie but no war - Good Morning, Vietnam or Buffalo Soldiers war movie but that's not really the plot - Three Kings war comedy - Tropic Thunder

I generally dislike war movies (especially American) since they usually serve as a tool of ideological indoctrination, even the "anti-war" ones generally speaking fail to make any substantial point beyond showcasing the brutal nature of war that should be a given. Full Metal Jacket, Inglorious Basterds and Dr. Strangelove are a few I do like
