Out of 100 shows maybe 10 max may be worth watching. It does not have to be good but atleast it's bearable to watch.
There's this once in every 3-4 years a story comes out that is genuinely good. To represent that story, the artstyle and direction employed manage to elevate the original story via voice acting, action sequence animation, soundtrack etc.
Since there's no bar as to what can be shown in anime in Japan, most of the presentations are raw and manage to extract the full essence of a particular scene... naturally this also depends on the cast working on that show.
The same logic could be applied to American TV shows but there's a limit to what can be shown on TV.
Not all anime are good. Some of them make you question why did you become a fan. But then shows like Monster and other cults make you appreciate the art form

Its a much better story telling medium because everything can be put in place exactly how the writer/artists want. You dont automatically not give a shit about characters just because of their actor/character archetype from linking the character to reality. Its much easier to display emotion from not having emotion need to be acted out by a live person. Time skips can happen much easier because characters can just be changed accordingly. Just some random points

also sound design really good in many animes(newer ones)
furthermore fights look way more epic, imagine these fights in real life with all the abilities (trash) and charakters can look more special (would also suck to see main character like with blue hairs in real)
And one main point is that animes with good stories are recognized better because there are no bonus points like a famous actor or director, but the manga speaks for itself and budget is not a big problem
Watch some decent animes and figure out yourself. :)
