Hans Niemann is the most cringe piece of shit cheater ever. Have you seen this? youtu.be/-sfb6o1oWBU Bruh I bet I could analyze it better than he did… and this guy supposedly plays 100% accuracy games? “Uhhh what does the engine say?”. Yeah right. Also “chess speaks for itself” had me rolling. Fuck this guy, he cheated for sure

At least because Ding is in this match in the first place because of Magnus's decision to abstain from defending his title

They should've, but this would be the most pathetic world championship in history, I can't think of any player that would be ok with having the Crown by simply winning the Candidates tournament
2023-04-26 19:05
2 replies
Indeed. It's almost like what they did was make Ian world champ, hold another candidates tournament with all the players that aren't Ian and let the best one play against him, but without pronouncing him actually champ and without going through actually hosting the tournament again. I'd say it's pretty reasonable.
2023-04-26 19:19
Nah, if you are indeed better prove it, no default wins. If you choke or if you can't bring your A game against the supposedly best next guy, then you don't desearve to be the champ in the first place.

I mean, there isn't much of a story. When Magnus beat Ian last time (2021), he basically said that he'd only defend his title if the match was against Firouzja (I think, I'm not sure if it was actually him). Last year we had the Candidates (the tournament that decides who's playing against the current world champion for the title) and the winner was Nepo again, so it would basically be a rematch. After some days Carlsen said that he wouldn't be defending his title because of lack of motivation and etc. etc. So now the match had to be between Ian and DIng Liren (who finished second on the Candidates). And I 100% understand Magnus Carlsen in this situation, his last match against Nepo was really lopsided. The dude played perfectly basically every single game. I'm pretty sure that one of their draws was at the time the most accurate game ever played in a world chess championship match. He won a round after almost 150 moves from what I remember. He's on another level compared to every single chess player alive right now.

Wow, thanks for a such detailed message. Yeah, Carlsen is the goat for sure. Although it's a bit sad he decided not to defend the title. Does he plan to participate in next championships or he took some kind of break from chess atm?

Personally I don't think so. My feeling is that Magnus is much more likely to take a draw like position and grind it out until he wins whereas these guys are going for more complicated double edged positions. It feels stylistically different rather than bad. Most of the mistakes have come in time pressure

"Most of the mistakes have come in time pressure" My dude, Ian had 40 minutes on the clock yesterday and made 3 or 4 bad moves in a row almost instantly. And I don't really agree with that draw thing, let's not forget that the longest decisive match in a world chess championship is a victory by Magnus over Ian the last time they played.
2023-04-27 09:25
1 reply
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying though. Magnus grinds down his oppponents and wins in very long games. Often those games look like they are draw and other players might have given up. Yes, yesterday was Ian being Ian I suppose. But in general I don't think that's the way it's gone down this match. Generally it has seemed like the positions have been very complicated and it's burnt a lot of their clocks

2023-04-27 10:05
Bruh, this game was a fucking joke. These two are contenders for WC and it was crystal clear that at one point in the game both were COMPLETELY clueless on what to do. If I wanted to see 1900 Elo games, I would watch a different game. I get chess is fucking hard, but those guys are supposed to be the best. Either Magnus is just so far ahead of everyone, including the supposed top 2 and top 3, or this shit is scripted. Like... Ian has +3 advantage, comes back to the board, *instantly* plays a move without thinking, and it's a blunder. ??? Something's weird.
2023-04-26 20:01

havve you never over rationalized an easy situation and did something wrong cause "it cant be that easy"?
2023-04-26 20:43
people commit far more mistakes if they are trying to win though. Magnus won a lot of his games against Nepo by him straight blundering after he was tilt after the legendary game 6. Now here the contestants are about on the same level (Ding slightly higher peak and better consistency though). But when you play for a win you really need to take more risks compared to when you try to play for a draw. A lot of the positions played from the outside feel far more unclear than the ones that were played in Nepo-Magnus. Additionally Ding has a very chaotic second in Rapport who really embraces the chaotic risky playstyle, trying to catch people off-guard rather than playing very precise. Also people are backseat-gaming hard here: In most of the unclear positions with chances for both parties you need to consider a lot of deep and complicated lines; also Ding is regularly pulling out very technical positional moves that are incomprehensible to the two commenting GMs (including Caruana). Calling this a 1900 match is risible imho.
2023-04-26 20:50
2 replies
I was really upset when I made that comment, but even looking back, it's still so ridiculous. There shouldn't be such a huge contrast between the 99% overall match accuracy that was 2021 Magnus Carlsen's WC play and these two... Also, how did Ian literally have 100% accuracy up until that rook move, playing engine moves every time, which simply has to show that he knew his position and the lines of it, that he was winning and how to proceed, and suddenly just... blunders. Like... either you know you're winning or you don't, or at the very least you make a smaller position worsening move, not all the crap he did. Ding also showed he didn't have a clue and was literally gifted the win with that SUPER OBVIOUS second blunder. Nah, you know what, I stand by what I said. That game was just ugly chess, and neither of those two deserve the title.
2023-04-27 01:27
+1 if white wants to draw he can do it 99,9% of the time at high level if players are equal
2023-04-27 10:05
Oh, and also - Magnus was completely right. He bailed out because it's pointless to go through so much prep and hard work, and then you go to the WC, and your opponent just blunders like an idiot, invalidating all his hard work. No point in tryharding when nobody gives you reason to tryhard.
2023-04-26 20:00

That's not really been the case in the majority of his world championship matches tbh

That Caruana x Carlsen match in my opinion was one of the highest quality matches of all time, they were both on top of their game and, as a plus, if Caruana won, he'd take Carlsen out of the #1 spot from what I remember, that's pretty unimaginable nowadays
