Soccer refs
shroud |
British Virgin Islands Boy_With_Luv
Why tf do soccer refs have like a 5 min full length conversation with the players after a potential foul or something, like mf you are the judge, jury and executioner, if they don't listen to you and complain like a bunch of children, give em a red card or something and send em off but don't waste time, Jesus Christ

Topics are hidden when running Sport mode.
That happens in basketball too It’s good for refs to be receptive to debate

in soccer an average "playtime" is 57 minutes (out of 90), imagine how long matches will be if refs are to stop the clock

1.2 homocides/100,000 people is extremely low. This is probably even an overestimate because it includes any violent death that the police investigate, including likely cases of manslaughter or suicide. European average is 3.0. Global average is ~6.2. US is ~7.8. My city (St. Louis) is 62. Obviously this isn't a competition I want to win, but you're over 50 times more likely to be murdered here than in Sweden. Hell, you're probably more likely to be killed here than anywhere in Europe besides like eastern Ukraine

if you live in the capital sure there will be less, but I'm sure you'd also avoid most danger by adapting to the culture, which is what is normal to do. Also I didn't say that eastern europe was dangerous when it comes to crimes, especially not spontaneous ones, overall it's much safer as you'd expect from still very religious cultures but if you fuck up there you fuck up bad

Its not the point of being a referee to give everyone yellows and reds, its about keeping the flow of the game if the game getting harsh refs throwing cards like crazy to stop that etc. Thats why hes referee, not a jugde

because the players argue too much, he cant give everyone a yellow or red card for arguing, that would be insane

If they argue, the ref shouldn't respond but instead ignore them and continue the game

Then make a rule that players shouldn't act like pack animals and gang up on the refs, and the notion of dialogue is only provided to the captain and no one else, and include potential punishments too.

It's done in rugby. It should also be implemented in football in my opinion. At the highest level for start (let's say UCL group stage and after, UEL group stage and after, WC) and then gradually at the lower ones.

If refs would start doing that for one or two matchdays then players would adapt to it and stop "harassing" them so often. Same with diving and playing for time

a) too rare that its important b) "harassing" is a exaggeration c) diving and playing for time is already punished and not comparable to this

It's not rare, you see it every second game harassing is obviously exaggerated but I didn't know a better word and you know what I mean diving and playing for time is not nearly punished as much as players do it. FIFA tried to actually punish playing for time at the WC and the extra times went on for like 10-15 minutes every match, then they stopped doing it because it was too much of a strain. That's how much football players are abusing the systems

Whether or not they are minor problems is subject to opinion, but clearly FIFA tried to change the way things are run but backed out of it because it got too extreme of a change. In my opinion, they should finally set an end to this issue because football is already losing interest in new audiences but we will see how FIFA will react in the future

The issue of football is that it’s over strategised, not enough action or goals, and the paywalls. That’s it Imagine popularity without paywalls, through the roof. At least without massive paywalls they have now would increase it as well
2023-05-11 00:12
Because a red card can ruin a good match. So it's good that they try to prevent players from doing something stupid that needs to be a red.

It's crazy how Europeans wank off about how "civilized" they are, but seem to chimp out at the slightest instance of someone calling their beloved game soccer, the contradictions speaks for itself.

2023-05-11 01:40
If the players don't respect your call and get in your face its a yellow card. Simple as that, it's how you maintain control. This isn't a debate club or tea time, play the game and the ref got to where they are because they proved to be competent at their job.

Idk who needs to hear this but in Australia, the most popular sport is by far is Australian rules football (AFL) which we call football or footy. Unlike American football, you use your feet predominantly so the name football is justified. Having said this, being a fan of “soccer”, I use football to describe the sport when talking to mates who I know watch it as well. However it’s necessary to use “soccer” to describe the sport to most Aussies as most people assume you’re talking about AFL if you say football.
