I have a problem calling pro someone playing to earn a $600 prize. The former days of Counter Strike elite tournaments weren't professional at all. The structures around players and tournaments were pretty weak, low to no staff, low to no proper preparation, etc ... It took time for CS (and esport in general) to grow and reach a professional state.

Do you think that the teenagers in the early 2000's who went to LANs using their parent's money only to win a mousepad and a coupon were professionals? Think about all the talented players that left the scene very young/early, with the nowadays pro standards they would have stayed. But back in the days, you needed another job or living from your parent's to afford a living.
