Most boring era in CS
Twistzz |
Canada FlagChecksOut
Most boring era in Cs was obviously the Online era, because all online events didn't feel prestigious at all regardless of the organizer or event. Online era aside, I'd say the most boring era of csgo looks like the Astralis dominant period between 2018-2019. Everyone knew what the outcome was going to be if Astralis was playing at an event (spoilers, they won). Liquid looked like they had a chance to win against them in 2019 but the break before Berlin really took the wind out of their sails. After that, everyone knew Astralis was going to win the whole event.

astralis era was more boring than online era at least during the online era there was nothing else to do because of lockdown ahahaha

You mean to say you didn't enjoy watching IEM Studio Backdrop 33 with the same tired and dead teams repeating head2heads from a week earlier? Sacrilege

How do you even define the concept of ,,boring" in CS? The level of complexity in regards to strategy the Astralis era was amazing. I could watch them again and again because of the way they literally changed the game. I see that era as a ,,mature" one, in opposite of some flashy plays... From that point when they unfortunately fell off, the scene was never the same and it went down in quality.

the scene didn't go down in quality, at least gameplay wise. the meta is not as utility heavy because EVERYONE knows how to play util and how to counter it. it's not like everyone forgot what a smoke does. the meta has just shifted to make individual plays more important (which is, IMO, more entertaining)

I mean Outsiders got a major fluke run soo thats kind of sucess
2023-06-05 19:55
C9 aren't great but at least they managed to win a LAN event and also gave rise to two top 10 or even top 5 players.
2023-06-06 14:43
C9 had other issues happen to them, for one, ban on coaches talking hurt them a lot because Groove is an insanely good caller. Then going out of his comfort zone Nafany could not find the same vibe so sh1ro and hobbit had to take over most of the calling. That slowed them down quite a lot
2023-06-06 15:49
It's weird people consider BiG onliners when they literally play from a LAN centre. What you mean is they don't perform in front of a crowd.

How is this a year of underdogs? Yeah in major many t2 teams had success, but in the end of it Kato - G2 EPL - FaZe Rio and Paris - Vitality It's actually a solid year, no one really dominates and every tournament is interesting

Just proving my point with ENCE in Dallas, new tier-1 team to win a big event. 4 different t1 teams winning 5 big events so nope, not an underdog era just a strong competition overall
2023-06-08 01:09
yeah i think the last 2 years have been way more boring than the online era was

I also think that Astralis Era is one of the most boring ones, but props to that astralis team for making the game looks so easy, and I wonder what really happened during that 2019 players break, it just destroys liquid

They probably just weren't hot anymore take a break and the heat starts to wear off. Should've just kept the momentum rolling into major.

say what you want about online era but we saw some of the best content for CS we've ever had. Sure the tournaments sucked but we had like every pro grinding FPL. Had some insane FPL battles like that one match with s1mple, fallen and xantares. 2019 was probs the most boring in terms of tournaments before online...

I didn't mention zywoo anywhere you insecure little child XDDD 2019 was boring because Astralis won 2 majors vs underdog finalists The only interesting part was how Liquid speed-ran the Grand Slam other than that nobody looks back at 2019 and thinks "ah wow what a great year of CS that was"
2023-06-06 14:38
I'd rather have a team dominate than the situation we are in right now. Everyone has to play catch up and the meta shifts a lot. You also get to see a lot of roster changes in the off season.
2023-06-03 20:40

Shifting meta is a good thing no? Else the game ends up stagnant with no improvments.

Maybe in 2018. But I wouldn't say 2019 was a year of Astralis auto win. It was a time that some other big teams started rising up. Of course Astralis was still the top dog, but they weren't unbeatable.
2023-06-03 20:54
Haha before opening the thread I thought you were talking about now, but my mind immediately went to the Astralis era.

i know that nobody here watched it but, nip era was by far the worst, csgo was in shit state itself only shit 10k eur tournaments, same 10 teams in playoffs every time, nip beats them all without any chance

Speak for yourself. :) NiP era didn't age that well but it was amazing to watch at the time, which is what's important. It was the inaugural definition for "eras" that we know and define today, so obviously it goes without saying that the competition now is incomparable but it definitely wasn't "boring" either. In 2012 it was tedious because obviously it was practically a new game but 2013 definitely saw the start of something great.
2023-06-06 16:05
Online and 2021 after online
2023-06-03 21:05
Astralis era was probably the best CS you could watch NIP era was probably the worst because they played against shit teams, online era wasn't that bad only thing that really was missing was the hype and atmosphere.
2023-06-03 21:08
Obviously it's the most boring, everyone is shit at least with the Online era and the Kreig meta era everyone was better even if that was because they were using a more powerful weapon or using the confidence of playing in a familiar low stress situation, every team right now is playing faaaaaar worse than the top teams in earlier eras of CS.

Started watching since pre pandemic and hardcore cs watching during the pandemic (because I had nothing to do) And tbh I liked those times Yeah the games were not prestigious but there was some nice CS being played and that matters a lot. My favorite CS team to watch ever is OG 2020-2021 because of the online era. But yeah , Arena CS is better but I think that Studio Cs varies on quality between tournaments , and it can either feel good or meh. I have been skipping some tournaments lately like Dallas and Blast World Final (also I just watch a lot less CS in tournaments I am watching like the major). And thats just cuz I get a little bit bored (Idk why tho)

I disagree. The matches and the tournaments in 2020 were still really good to watch, it just obviously lacked LAN's and a crowd environment. Obviously a shame but that didn't take away from how good the competition and teams were in 2020.

+1 I actually liked that sound was a 100% viable thing in online era as opposed to stage matches. Like in Rio, when Furia was playing I do not think players had any sound whatsoever, maybe if they were shooting their own gun. Yeah, stage forces more mistakes so crazy plays happen, but I enjoyed it when sound actually mattered.

Yeah, kind of makes me miss those days of CS when the crowd betrays players at tournaments. xD

I liked 2020, I feel if it wasn't online and held on LAN it'd be the best year of CS. 6 man lineups, french superteam Vitality at their peak, strong BIG (although that was due to online), strong OG and juggernaut complexity, colossus C9, Gen.G, 100T, FURIA and EG dominating NA alongside Liquid, also some strong tier 2 teams like Godsent and Mad Lions

People complain that currently teams are not consistent and none can sustain top 1. People also complain that Astralis era was boring because they were consistent and could sustain top1. HLTV in a nutshell.

I didn't find online era boring. First of all, there was no other sport so having at least online cs was very welcomed. Secondly, the start of online era was very interesting to see how team adjust to new situation and we finally got clear view to the differences between lan and online game. The 2021 would have been quite boring though without Gambit coming from nowhere to make things little interesting. Its just sad that all the coach bug stuff made it so that after that, people just started to wait for more problems to come with playing online to which the easiest solution was to get lan back as soon as possible. Without the coach bug scandal and the problems it highlighted, people wouldn't view online era so harshly. Not saying it equal to other times, just the feeling could be something other than "who cars"
2023-06-08 01:08
After the online era, I feel rn, the state of CS is kinda suck. New strats are more rare , so the better teams have strong individuals or good teamplay. Sure, they bring new strats, but I feel mirage/inferno/D2 (specially D2) are kinda stale .
