I have never experienced the 2nd day being worse than the first day tbh

For vast majority of people, the issues are worst 24-48 hours after for doms. This is mostly for people who are hitting legs after a long period off though, if you're working out regurarly, the soreness might just be a little bit following day.

cant agree, im hittng legs every week and im pretty active person, but the muscle soreneness is always hitting more 2nd day :D

The peak problem is 24-48 hours after. Which is in line with what you're saying. Idk how you are getting severe soreness that last for days if you are training regularly, that's unlucky

that's what happens when you're pushing beyond your limits
2023-06-09 09:24
it’s gonna be there no matter what you do. Just accept it and go about your day like normal. Enjoy resting your legs but don’t be lethagic and sit around.
2023-06-04 19:05
has nothing to do with leg day in specific but with recovery. it will take a while for ur muscle to get used to this. supplementing with magnesium, beta- alanine and citrulline can help to recover but a good night sleep, a good high protein meal will do the rest.
2023-06-04 19:06

yea i already have a diet thats high in protein so that shouldnt be that much of a problem. i had a magnesium pill when i got home :)

2023-06-04 19:14
if you just started out you will just have stumps for legs for a week there's nothing to do about it, it's your own fault. What you should do is go incredibly lightly the first time (like literally don't even challenge yourself remotely in the gym). And then go back after a couple days. If you went all out first day you are done bro. Gl. Legs will return to normal function in like 2 weeks, you will not be able to walk on stairs.

aware it wasn't *that* intense. I did do a lot of intense exercises but I didn't use any heavy weights. most i did was add 30lbs to leg press

Take cold shower men, it works for sore muscles
2023-06-04 19:17
Just try to stretch out the legs and walk as much as possible, and your legs will recover naturally
2023-06-04 19:24
Sleep well , hydration and good nutrition to recover , as simple as that
2023-06-04 19:30
you gotta stretch after the exercises

doesn't help much, especially if you just started working out
2023-06-04 19:51
DOMS is inevitable but can be reduced with proper nutrition and diet. Usually DOMS peaks around 48 hours.
2023-06-04 19:37
youll survive just sleep well
2023-06-04 19:41
Yeah next day after tomorrow will be even more hell to sit.. enjoy muhahaha
2023-06-04 19:44
Protein, stretch, light cardio like walking, sleep When you overdo the volume when starting it's like getting a tan without SPF after not seeing the sun for half a year

if you have just recently started training, go light in the beginning even if you feel like you could push harder, your body gets time to adjust to being pushed to its limits and you can safely focus on technique. for example, if your movement allows you to practice deep squats, you can do them with just the bar, get the gist and rack up the volume when you're more confident. your everything is sore in the start but it's all about getting used to it! find the optimal training frequency, the rest your body needs, the amount of food you need and basics like that. supplements have a time and a place but you'll hardly need more than protein, and not even that depending on what you eat. be patient, it's the most important thing

take ice cold shower, always helped me after leg a good leg day, you can even do it the next day if u care about the science that says taking ice baths/showers same day as workout can reduce a small percent of muscle growth, up to u tho
2023-06-04 19:54
if your sore tomorrow and struggling to walk, you've over trained your legs. depending on your split and im presuming your natural, i would pretty much guarantee your volume for legs is too high.

what? Soreness is normal if you are pushing throught your limits or even trying to max out
2023-06-04 20:37
1 reply
wrong. soreness is a myth. let me put it this way for you. using the below numbers as examples.. if you did 14 sets on leg day - lets say monday. if your training correctly you will burn out the muscles way before end of the session. you will see way more gains with 2 days of 7 sets over the course of the week, as these 7 sets can be pushed harder due to way less volume. volume for natties is not optimal.
2023-06-05 16:24
I think he is a beginner/someone who is just getting back into it. Pretty much no way to avoid soreness then, just gotta get it over with.
2023-06-04 20:39

2023-06-04 20:48
Dude I did legs for the first time in a while 2 days ago, and I'm still in so much pain
2023-06-04 20:39
Very little to do, some bro-advice has minor positive effects but it's mostly just pain you have to suffer. Gl bro and stick with it so you don't have to go through it again :D

have your leg day on friday, Jesus Christ. its terrible doing it during the week

The more you do it the less pain you'll have. We all remember our first few leg days :)
2023-06-04 23:13
yeah i have an advice. never work legs again. If u do upper body well enough to be big as hell your legs will need to support your huge body height due to your upper body. thats more than enough. Oh...and dont forget....theres just 2 leg days until christmas!

if your natural, dont chase "soreness" and shitty volume set your weekly schedule out like so.. upper lower off upper lower off off focus on getting stronger and keeping form. stop trying to do what the fake natty guys on insta tell you to do. 30 sets for chest yeah buddy, no!

people always say first leg sessions are brutal when you first start lifting for me? first curl day. couldn't straighten my arms for a week. don't get me wrong leg day was bad as well but man never experienced it since tho lol
2023-06-05 18:48
Little update I couldn’t bend over without my entire lower body hurting for 48 hours but I’m ok now I got 2 good workouts in for the past 2 days. Gonna do an active rest day today (last day of school) and get my second leg day in tmr thanks for the advice everyone

counter intuitive, but rehit that muscle group asap, it will actually strengthen them (even if you're still sore) my rule of thumb is that its sore enough that you feel tension when activating the group but not sore enough that it is a nuisance in every day use of the muscles you're sore because you haven't been consistently going, but if you get into a routine and stick to it, you'll start seeing yourself not even aching 24hours after the workout

no, don't workout the same muscle again if its sore. won't be able to do the same weight at all, let alone progressive overload. just rest and recover, hit the muscle group again with more weight than last time.

Well.. I hope you stretch after your workout :) It really helps a lot. And dont do like 30 sec. Read and do it correctly and you will feel alot better. Also you can go for a morning walk before school.
