I think showmatches have been quite boring the past years, most of the time a showmatch is just a random selection of 5 players vs either another 5 players or a team based on the country where the event is hosted and it usually ends up being a match of who can make the "funniest" play. Although there is some entertainment in that I believe showmatches could be way more than what they are right now, currently there isn't any real stakes at any showmatch or anything that will impact the game or community in the future, for example the updated Cache showmatch was really fun to watch since it was supposed to replace another map in the active duty pool (which never ended up happning kek) but atleast it was something to look forward to and explore, one suggestion I have is to have at every major, a sort of rematch of old major finals, for example if we had NiP x Fnatic 2014 on old inferno, I'm sure there would be so many more peoe watching because it's something that invokes feelings of nostalgia rather than a random 5v5 on Anubis or CS2 Dust II.
At the end of the day the Showmatch is obviously never going to be the main focus, but I feel like there is a missed opprotunity to create great moments and engage the community a bit more right before we have a major final for example to get you riled up for the match.

Showmatches are boring and pointless, no stakes, feelings attached or anything for the community to look for, missed opprotunity to create great moments of suspense and actually engage the community for something to look forward to or remember.
It's true that there is a lot of room to play with but ESL is a large company that's gonna repeat the trialed and tested pattern until it doesn't work anymore.
Blast being relatively small is one of its strongest assets because they are very flexible and have creative and passionate people with freedom to innovate

Sure and you almost have to because there is a grand final basically every other weekend which is ridiculous but at majors for example I think they could atleast do a bit of a better job as you only really have to do it twice a year.

Yeah it was at an ESL event I don't remember which, not sure if it was called Gamescom or something, it was at either Kato or Cologne and it was different from the usual, was nice to see.

i liked the blast 1v1 showmatches with actual money in the line. that zonic vs s1mple 1v1 was legendary
but who cares about watching 5 random veterans and nonames like smooya and GTR vs whatever team

Yes BLAST never quite misses the mark when it comes to showmatches, they're the best but they could be better still.

I don't think I've ever watched a showmatch in the past 5 years, I like finals days only 1 game, most events I've been spending too much time watching cs anyways

If you're in the arena, it's actually painful to watch the showmatch considering you've likely had 2 semi-finals bo3's and sometimes 2 or 4 quarter finals bo3's and you're saturated with just normal competitive cs and an actual fun showmatch would be amazing to "relax" for a bit before you get your last bo3 or even best of fking 5 to spend all your remaining 1% energy left across the whole series.
Showmatches could be a lot more entertaining if they have live comms, commentators can talk to the players/ teams playing live. Mb even have single players be able to talk to the arena, live. But instead we get a troll match commentated by moses and anders

Show matches should be like warowl or nade king videos. ESL also has made short 2v2 content and things like that.

CS has been boring for the past year or so so yeah obviously the show matches would be as they've been shit for ages the only good show match there has ever been was that one BLAST did where they like released smoke behind the players etc, every other show match has been just shit, like watching people just play bad CS with no gimmicks or anything and half of them just tryhard.

based and redpilled. I agree. Mostly i think they suck because the players are too tryhard and doesn't understand that it's about putting up a show, not just playing random faceit game. The absolutely most horrible example i can remember would be the RIO major with a random brazil 5 stack tryharding, ruining the game.
Paris did it well, they had a bunch of stupid and weird effects for the entire game. Actually made it fun, made people vote for the map etc. Very good job.
They should totally just do old matchups with storied players, old lineups, nostalgia. It would be so much more fun. Full tryhard or not, and maybe make it a longer game in some way if they went down this route.
