twitter.com/zachbussey/status/1666111039.. Perfect time to enable PPV for CS:GO and see, where our landscape stands (Probably they will still allow those for BIG brands, but grassroots tournament organizers welcome to YouTube)

Topics are hidden when running Sport mode.
dumb it down for me i dont get this what classifies as an ad and wtf does burned in mean

it means that you cannot stream your own ads, only twitch is allowed to put their ads on your stream. You can run twitch ad break but not play your own pre-recorded ads

burned in means the ad is from the streamer and shown on screen (via OBS or something) basically the only ads twitch wants are twitch ads (the worst ones)

judging from this, you are still allowed to do an ad live, as in preform that action live.

burned in ad means ad that you put in your video stream. Basically they limit you to have static logos less than 3% of screen and ofc ad rolls that is provided with twitch

good idea if you want 14 people watching. if they do that many will just watch an illegal stream. this isn't as popular as boxing of UFC.

escharts.com/games/csgo mmahive.com/ufc-viewership-statistics/ csgo has more viewers than ufc and boxing, plus valve can give you shit for paying like pickems and sprays and souvenir cases. For a couple bucks it is always profitable to buy viewership pass to major, because in 1-2 years your souvenir case is worth more than $5. The only problem with ppv is that 7 year olds cant watch major but boohoo csgo is rated m

you're missing the point. and your stats are flawed. nowhere near as many people would watch CSGO if they had to pay to watch. Many CSGO fans are young and will not pay. And idk if you really looked through that data (or read that link at all) but it in now way shows that CSGO has more viewers than UFC.

2023-06-06 19:57
Yup exactly the point. Plus, CS:GO is a videogame that most viewers actually play. Vast majority of them would just shrug and queue up for a match instead if they were forced to pay.
2023-06-07 08:36
Valve events are more than profitable, they do a shitton of money through major stickers. Btw, I don't understand all this ppv thing that users sells like it's the way to fix the scene. Twitch has ads and some people pay to get no ads during the game, so directly or indirectly everyone is paying to see the games and other streamers like gaules pay like 5 digits or more money to get rights so... If the esports are not sustainable is because braindead investors expected to be into 1 billion industry by now.
2023-06-06 19:56
10 replies
That money goes to Twitch and the tournament organizers (PGL, BLAST, etc. (its why Blast always throws ads for their website to watch, it lets them cut out Twitch as the middle-man)), neither of which deserve the money, it should be redirected into the scene either to Valve or players/team organizations. The issue with profitability in esports is that the money isnt reaching the orgs or players enough, so further monetization seems like a easy solution which is why many people agree with it. The issue is not investors, stop coping.

Players in T1 gets 10-40k per month easily and that's one of the main problems, don't know why you want more money for them, when the ones having problems are the orgs not the players. Twitch is the middleman that gets money because they do all the broadcast/server thing, so it's obvious you have to pay them, another thing is that they have a monopoly and take more share than they should, but the rest of the money goes to the channel. Bte, you can see it here how people complaints about ad blocks on twitch when you can rid of the ads by paying, but they don't. Small streamers that gets 1-5k people makes enough money to pay for event rights and have average salary, maybe they should hire less people and do less flashy lights if they are not sustainable, but I'm sure that blast, pgl...are sustainable enough

I don't know who baits harder if you or the swedish guy
2023-06-06 21:23
10-40 for the average tier 1 player is completely wrong. The average team is not Cloud9.

Isnt dota functioning that way? Starcraft2 had war chests where 50% went to pools and even that 70x.smaller community, raised like 1 mil. Imho its good idea. If they include 2% market fee and 50% bundles prize pool will be huge. Stickers can go to teams so they can survive and everyone are happy. Even Volvo wouldnt lose a lot profits

kick is still better even if its a website for degenerates. i can go on kick with no adblockers and never see a single ad, and the streams run perfectly at 1080p 60fps. meanwhile i have 3 adblockers specifically for twitch and still sometimes get ads, and streams struggle to run at 720p 60fps.

Esports is watched by teenager and people think that ppv is a good thing because they repeat what Richard Lewis say without even thinking about it The viewership will decrease and sponsor are going to pay less because with less viewer = less exposure

Better have 10000 real fans spending real money than 2 mill plastic fans who want everything for free and burn the sponsors. We could have real good events and conversations then. you argue under the premise that the cs eco system should stay this way and implying only bigger and more expansive is the way to go? I think it would work, just scaled down. Western economics inject in us from the childhood that only bigger and constant growth at all costs is what success means.

Accessibility = exposure = attractiveness for sponsors for advertisement and faster growing community CS is not profitable right now and like that it would immediately die A business based on sport events is not comparable to economics of service or production companies. To be absolutely honest Valve should invest more money in esport since they earn an insane amount of money with the case gambling and that should be more than enough to sustain a great experience without relying on betting or other sponsors that much

I think they should propose some Premium content + some other things for people who wants more/wants to support the industry. but imo the redline is having to pay to see the game, I don't think it's a good model. People will just go on pirate stream like we all do for traditionnal sports, viewership will be terrible

exposure doesn't bring in that much money that's his whole point. Sponsors can get 10 mil views on a youtube video if they want to they don't always need a team or TO for that
2023-06-06 19:42

That bring new viewership, good luck finding new viewer for a product that isn't so popular compare to traditionnal sports if you have to pay to see it. And it still bring money. I think we can fin a middle ground where people pay for some premium content/features (and more things that I can't think of) but watching the game should stay free

Until YouTube gets a proper "theater mode" that brings chat + video feed into a compact well thought view for livestreaming (as big video feed vs as big chat feed vs no extra unnecessary bullshit space around it) there's sadly no better option. Twitch has perfected the theather mode view, also often allows multiple streams in the same window through squadstream for conveniency that I often use as well.
2023-06-06 22:10
1) 3% is more than enough for bookmakers to keep paying for it 2) there are still banners 3) “burned in audio ads” don’t spread to the streamer/host talking about the sponsor

Twitch is the biggest streaming site for gamers and YouTube has a similar policy so. They’re basically flexing their position with little competition to prevent them from operating as such. Look at YouTube. People slowly moving to Rumble or alternate sites but it’s so established it’s not really creating an issue for them.
