G2's fundamental problem
 |
Portugal W!LDF1RE
WARNING: This is a long ass read that might not be within your interest. No need to spam "I ain't reading all that". With that said if you ain't reading all that, the spam would be very well received, as any bump is appreciated G2 has given its IGL the best group of 4 players in the entire scene. Every role is filled by a potential top20, (and some top10) player, and they are all playing their respective best roles. Plus hooxi as an IGL has been pretty good, especially on T sides. His mechanics are questionable, sure, but aren't as horrendous as the community makes it out to be, and his stats are similar to guys like Karrigan or Snappi. So what's the problem? Well, apart from not having an actual coach, G2 is inconsistent because they aren't setting up anyone to be the main star. G2's system is built on the basis that every one of the 4 stars can carry (wich is true). That is problematic, not because any of the pieces if faulty per say, but because in games where the team as a whole isn't really turned on, they one by one try to make a play happen, and as it fails, they are left with neither players nor support. The solution is choosing one of them to be the main guy being feed the entries and the carry duty, and the other 3 just play their roles as 2nd stats. That fixes the streakyness of this team. It doesn't even need to be the same guy every time. It could and should be map and side dependent. Like T side nuke it should be NiKo with his elite outside play. CT side Mirage it should be m0NESy given that the map favours AWP entry picks fir ct. T Mirage could be HuNter with his talent at going around the map, etc.. Apart from JKS who is almost always the anchor, this would hurt the other 2 guys who aren't the main star at that given moment, but they still would have comfortable stats, plus a more stable team and plan. If plan A doesn't work with 1 guy, they change to another star, or to a combo of 2

Great points, Also G2 needs to stop tilting when things are not working for them especially NiKo. The moment they starts tilting and getting frustrated, is where they lose their game.

I just think he needs to look at his keyboard and find an S key. People have read that he'll always hard commit and they are punishing. It has worked for a good while for him and while he will win a fair duel against most players - they won't always give him that. So yeah, daily dose of 1000mg of CHILLTHEFUCKOUT would be recommended. He just needs to take like 10-15% less duels, I am not talking about moving him back or holding him back. Just a tad.

I may be wrong but imo there’s 2 issues: 1. Hooxi doesn’t trust his mechanics and is always trying to make a crazy play to provide value and often gives up man advantages due to this. It’s a common misconception that his raw aim is THAT bad, it’s not, his micro decision making for himself is just awful 2. Niko, M0nesy and hunter don’t seem to always trust the plan and try for insane solo plays as soon as anything goes wrong.

as for HooXi's fragging, I saved two comments here that I always send to friends at tldr's of my opinion: prnt.sc/Pis3hB7e_EqV as for his calling, it's fine although recently he's started to throw a lot of mid rounds into the drain apart from playing 4v5, their biggest problem are trash defaults and what I can only call poor prep and zero substance in tactical timeouts, they need a real coach and an IGL that can shoot I mean just look how uncomfortable NiKo's been and it's definitely not his own form in question since he nails every duel the moment he gets a relatively fair one

Hooxi isn't that bad though. He factually isn't that bad. Also the throwing rounds is more on the players getting overconfident than on the IGL. He can't call 2 or 3 simultaneous pushes

he is when his mental goes to shit you can attribute the round (and veto) throwing to the coaching staff because that's their job, I don't care if it's the IGL, coach, analyst, mother, brother, mental coach, but it can't continue like this
2023-06-07 21:54
I have strong feeling HooXi will get even worse in CS2 so -HooXi +Siuhy Also +TaZ as coach (might be NEO as well) Incredible experience and huge knowledge + such a legend in team would bring motivational boost and authority over individualities like NiKo

CS2 has the exact same mechanics. Also good luck to Siuhy, with only 1 achievement of value imposing respect over anyone there. The guy defo has the quality and potential, but doubt it would work

Thats what TaZ is needed for. he will be respected and he would definitely help Siuhy gain confidence and adapt to G2

"The solution is choosing one of them to be the main guy being feed the entries and the carry duty, and the other 3 just play their roles as 2nd stats. That fixes the streakyness of this team." That doesn't even make sense. You never played competitive in your entire life. Not on a serious level atleast.

How so though? Having one or 2 guys be set up as the main star stops the 2 biggest problems in the team. 1 the fact that 90% of teams are set up in that way and that IGLs are used to use those kinds of setups makes it more accessible for him to call. 2 Them constantly overpeaking and making plays, as everyone Haa the freedom to do so
2023-06-07 21:55
not agree g2's problem - lacking structure plays and set-ups on CT-sides. Clear as water. If I was swani, I would just take NiKo 1v1 to some restaurant, and we will have like 5 hours of talking about CS philosophy. NiKo mindset is basically "noo, I died because my aim is bad, I need to train my aim 5 hours and then I will push and kill everyone becaus my aim is goodest!" But thats not HOW counter Strike works in my philosophy, you cant just play by urself. NiKo NEVER in his life played in hard-system style teams like Heroic, Astralis. I would literally turn NiKo into 1.3 rating machine, if he stops trying playing solo

But we actually agree. I do agree that ct side incoherence is the main issue. But the main fix for that is not having everyone go for plays and have only a select group do it. NiKo isn't the only one with that issue

Maybe yes, he is big match player But G2 was eliminated against Fnatic and ENCE last events, this games are considered as "big matches" or no? Because i didnt saw jks peeking from corners and insta hs to win the round. Like twistzz did in 2022
2023-06-07 22:39
So rain at his best is better than jks at his best I agree with that but 2 things for your specific point: 1. Your comparing one of rains best years to jks overall career stats 2. Calling rain an anchor is pretty disingenuous imo. He anchors on Mirage and Inferno, but on Overpass, Ancient, Nuke he plays the best CT roles and on Anubis he plays B rotate I think
2023-06-07 22:20
2 replies
1. My bad. You can filter jks stats to 2023 and he is even worse now. 1.08 and 0.98 impact 2. Fair enough. Rain is 50% anchor. Also he was anchoring long at dust2 in 2022
2023-06-07 22:24
1 reply
Well jks in 2023 vs rain in 2022 their overall rating and rating vs top teams basically the same. (Rain like .01 higher on most). And rain does have higher impact but he was also on a much more functional team and on average played much better CT roles. Roles like outside on Nuke and Cave on ancient are some of the highest impact roles in the game. Rain was def better but jks also definitely has a chance to sneak into top 20 this year with a 1.13 overall rating at big events (13th amongst qualifying players this year) and a 1.22 rating at majors (6th). He’d probably be in the 25ish range right now. Also He wasn’t playing long dust2, Karrigan was. Rain was short/mid rotation rifler. He exclusively anchors on Mirage and Inferno

"long ass thread" blud it's 300 words
2023-06-07 22:05
Interesting, but I kinda disagree. I think they usually preferentially set m0nesy or NiKo up over jks and hunter. I think a lot of their streakiness is due to NiKo's individual streakiness (and m0nesy's to a lesser extent). Like, if you're setting someone up to be a 1.3+ carry and they only go 1.1, you'll probably lose. The team has pretty good chemistry that shows in clutch situations. I personally wish that this team play showed better in early to mid round, rather than just starting with Niko/m0nesy go kill
2023-06-07 22:07

2023-06-07 22:15
disagree on the hooxi fragging part, snappi in terms of fragging clears hooxi and karrigan. 0.94 rating and a 0.95 rating against top 5, top 10 and etc. Hooxi and Karrigan are barely at above a .8 rating
2023-06-07 22:17
Monesy too young and inconsistent to have to whole game turning aroung him NiKo = Choko , will always be the best till he's average Hunter = Very good rifle , won't be more Jks = good role player , nothing else
2023-06-07 22:21
I don't blame only Hooxi for that, but their teamplay is very often poor. They have been together for a long time now and they still do random individual pushes. They rely way too much on monesy or hunter performance. Rn, Hunter is not performing. So, they are struggling to close matches. I don't think kicking hooxi will solve this problem, but JKS + hunter are not a good duo on ct sides. Basically, their ct side is not meta at all in some maps. Nuke is probably the exception.
2023-06-07 22:23

Honestly their CT side just looks like bad comms to me. I don’t think the setups themselves are bad or off meta
2023-06-07 22:34

They don't play together most of the time. Compare the ct side of heroic and the ct side of g2. It is a world of differences. Sure, the comm problems don't help, but the number of mistakes is kinda alarming. They don't play enough for the trades IMO . They save their ass by individual performances, which is not a good sign for the future. I think kicking hooxi won't help the team on near future though. They will have to start from the beginning (6 months of adaptation). G2 is not lacking of firepower.

I would strongly argue that it's the clash of a few things. First, m0nesy is too static of an AWPer and I think that's by gameplan. The more successful AWPers are very mobile, s1mple, zywoo, broky and sh1ro are often bouncing around the map on CT side to get picks from different angles and confusing the offense. He has the skill but gets locked into holding angles. Second is the combination of Niko's aggressiveness combined with HooXi's mechanics. Niko and HooXi usually are close to each other while on CT side. Niko can be super aggressive and sometimes that works. When it doesn't, Niko is rarely in a position to be traded and it leaves the least skilled member of G2 alone to defend by himself or forces rotates. It also adds pressure to G2 to try to be more aggressive and try to get a frag back. The irony of the whole situation is the reason jks is so consistent is the game plan for him doesn't involve him doing too much. Anchor a bombsite. Nothing flashy or aggressive that m0nesy/Niko/hunter does. Niko also dry peeks AWPers way too often.
2023-06-07 22:27

I agree. I don't like the combo of hooxi + niko. JKS is a good anchor, but when he plays with Hunter, they look outsync most of the time. I hope that they will change the setup in some maps. Hunter + niko, Jks + hooxi. Hooxi + niko play too much agressive, while Hunter + Jks play too much scare/passive IMO.
2023-06-07 23:10
You know what team has everyone with plenty of space in the team, no "main star" and it works? Heroic. It's the most consistent team atm (outside of the playoff chokes, but they still always get min. semis, which is something no other team is capable doing), and they don't have a "main guy" on any map that is constantly set up for success by others. Some think Stavn is that guy, but imo him being the best player on the team comes more from his consistency, not from high peaks or him getting set up for success. In ideal world if G2 could manage to have all 4 players as equal stars (like Heroic has all their players), they could become as consistent as Heroic, but just with better players meaning their peak would be way higher. Imo the thing they lack is good protocols, synergy and the basic stuff like effective trading, good utility usage (especially supportive utility like flashes), good comms & vibes on the team and just all in all everyone being on the same page. They are more like a super highly skilled FPL mix than a well together working team.

That's why I said "in ideal world". Still, they could have way better protocols and trading and other basic stuff than they currently have, even though it can't get to the same level of teams speaking their mother language.
2023-06-07 23:12
tbf, If we didn't know Niko and hunter were couzins, we couldn't tell . I rarely see good teamplay when both are alive. Why both never play together on the same bombsite ? Niko on ct side doesn't bring "star player stats" anyway. Both are good/great players, but I don't feel the duo bring something special in terms of synergy/teamplay. At the opposite, they monopolize good roles and the team rely on their individual peeks. I hope both will separate one day or another. I feel both would play better.
2023-06-07 23:18
1 reply
Niko and hunter are too aggresive individually imo. Idk if they don’t trust Hooxi but they go for way too many solo plays. Hunter gives up so many openers on Inferno leaving A site entirely defended by one person
