A lot of people say the HLTV rankings are awful, so I'm curious (without bias) how does your personal ranking differentiate from HLTVs'?

For the most part the ranking is good, but when teams from outside EU gets free invites and free ranking/partner teams the same it a bit fucked up. But overall its good

3 tier 2 teams in the top 12 because they made the playoffs at 1 tournament. Seems accurate

Because it was the major and with so few events in tier 1, each event counts for a lot more than before covid where there was 3-4 events more pr season
Also partner events should count less because they are more like show events and not really worth much because its not the best teams but just the ones that pay the most money.

GL only played 1 tier 1 event because they dont have the money to pay for parter spots, not because they are not good enough on the server.
EG is playing more tier 1 events than GL, are they then better?

1 tier 1 team, not event. They literally made the grand finals of a major only playing 1 tier 1 team. If anything the majors should count LESS towards the ranking because seemingly every major at this point has at least one team that sneaks through playing a bunch of bad teams. That doesn't happen at non major tier 1 events.

Nah, the bad teams are the partner teams that get fucked everytime its fair and they have to win games to get good seeds and spots.
GL/Apeks are just better than the shit partner teams like OG, Astralis, EG, BIG and so on

I ignore the Heroic choking factor and that Vitality's run at the major was meaningless in the rankings.
Placements wise Vitality is n1, but I think Heroic are the better team imo.

I mean it's wrong because many t1 teams flopped so hard, so on the one hand you can't really blame it, but on the other hand it's just wrong obviously..
it's not like the rankings are manual, there are certain calculations and that's just how it is. might be stupid at times.

To have accurate rankings, all teams would need start playing events with same starting point.
So no invites, partner teams etc., but having multi layered event for all teams. Open quali (or at least open for TOP100 teams), than group stage and then play offs.
With something like this we could see which teams are really good, if fluke really exists or just most of the "TOP" teams have inflated ranking.

Rankings should be based on chess elo system, where's you gain more/lose more points playing higher/lower tier teams, i.e. Vitality wouldn't have gained much in terms of ranking in France as they only faced 1 t1 team, and GL would have gained a substantial jump in rankings with the teams that they beat.
And when you all are ranking teams, what time frame are you basing it on? Last week? Last event? Last month? Last 6 months? Last year? It's all subjective.

Anyone notice that HLTV rankings have been so bad ever since these "partnered" events became a thing? I mean look at VP's rank, you think they would be sitting #22 if they were a partnered team? Yea no way. Definitely enough point farming to be in like top 10.
Before they were no real issues with them, except when NIP became dogshit but they kept on getting invited to top events so they stayed top 10.
