Focusing on musicians who are active today, Virgil Donati and Tosin Abasi are true musical geniuses.
SRV, Shawn Lane, bill evans

Lil Ugly Mane
Chuck Schuldiner, Jon Nödtveidt, Muhammed Suiçmez
not a genius but Brooks Wackerman gotta be one of the best metal drummers i’ve ever heard
Bob Cornelius Rifo
Dave Mustaine and Corey Taylor
Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Liszt, Brahms, Schubert, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Oscar Peterson, Paganini, Chopin, Ravel, Stravinsky, George Benson, McCoy Tyner, Django Reinhardt, Christian McBride, Chick Corea, Queen, Stan Rogers, Merle Travis, Fats Waller, Lenny Breau, Art Tatum, Horowitz, Michael Jackson, James Brown, The Beatles, Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, etc, etc...
Pretty much anyone who can make shit music and still earn ridiculous amounts of money are geniuses, they still make shit music tho
The one and only GOAT
I talk about real geniuses not necessary about my most personal fav music
Depends on what you consider genius. For me a genius is an innovator which creates something ahead of his time, so I would say Beethoven, Queen and... Deee-Lite. Of course it would be laughable to even compare Deee-Lite to Beethoven, but their music was far ahead of their time and still great today
here's a few gems that not everyone would have heard of.
LCD Sound System
Ross From Friends
Chino Moreno (Deftones, Crosses, Psalms and Team Sleep).
Hope this helps people find some new music.
david bowie, ag cook, dorian electra, black sabbath boys (just anyone really that makes something new and interesting or has his own twist on something). theres a lot of great ones. never ending list. My personal favorite has to be bowie tho.
+1 yunglean is a generational talentd
I like Edvard Grieg as far as classical music goes.
swedish house mafia
Dorian Electra, literally made a song called Musical Genius
Hard to list individuals, I usually listen to bands and half the time have no clue who is in those bands to begin with hah - anyways:
John Petrucci (one of the main reasons why I descended down the metal rabbithole years ago in the first place)
Mikael Stanne (when it comes to vocalists, almost no dropoff in quality live compared to studio recordings, some people count vocalists as musical genuises as well so I'll drop him here)
(honorable mentions: whoever is responsible for Time I by Wintersun and Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk by Emperor)
Frank Zappa - Need I say anything?
Tool - Need I say anything?
Buckethead - One of the worlds best guitar/bass players. 260+ hours of his own music, and a bit on the side (played in Guns and Roses amongst others.)
Slightly Stoopid - Good musicians for a (mostly) reggae band, awesome positive happy vibes, not sad like Bob Marley.
Malk De Koijn - Danish "comedy" hip hop band, mostly active about 20 years ago. Silly & clever lyrics, a lot smarter than I initially had the impression of.
most people just naming musicians they like but i fell like while they might be good i dont see how most of them are geniuses.
