It's actually crazy. The pressure connected to it is incredibly and there are way to many bad teachers. It feels like the system is more or less designed to exploit young people for their money.

I don't think he's talking about corruption but the original price, I think it's harder to bribe in germany or maybe even unexistent corruption system, in my case I paid the bribe because I was a shit driver by the time and would definitely not pass even if the examiner wasn't harsh to non-bribers and were 100% honest

you can bribe only the driving test, without bribing if you don't drive perfectly you don't pass the test even after completing all the route without serious mistakes, in my case i stepped really hard on the break once because I didn't know the car well and my examiner even got scared lol, that'd definitely make me fail, but even bribing, if you stall, hit the wheel in the curb or knock a cone, no money on earth can save you since the exam is made in front of dozens of people
2023-06-10 22:14
We can bribe everything in Brazil, you just need to know the right person who knows the right person to do it.
2023-06-11 15:58
You`re not wrong to pay. That test doesnt test nothing at all, doesnt prove that you know how to drive. It is just to steal money and make the system works as it should.

Not entirely true. You can now do B96 where you start training on a manual and get a certificate by your teacher and then do the rest of your lessons and your test on an automatic. You are allowed to drive both types after you have passed the test.

I suppose it's to make the test somewhat easier. You have to have a decent amount of lessons on the manual anyways and just because you might not be able to deliver in the driving test doens't mean you can not safely operate a manual. Your driving teacher who sees you driving for hours certifies that you are able to drive manual. I did this and now drive manual and would think of myself as a safe driver.

Honestly that just sounds like a really complicated regulatory mess. Or in other words, simply german :) If you can easily drive a manual, why wouldnt you be able to do the exam on it? Or does fucking up once when switching gears or starting on the hill instantly make you fail the exam?

Here in the USA at least, you can get your drivers license at 16 years old and the requirements to obtain your license aren't as strict in Europe. Most of the dumb drivers here are just people who are glued to their phone and don't take driving seriously. I've had my license for 4 years and it's absolutely crazy how many insane drivers I've seen, especially in the bigger cities.

Where I live at least, it is literally impossible to travel via bike or on foot. Every side walk in my neighbor hood eventually just disappears and there are no bike lanes. So if I wanted to go to the nearest grocery store (~20 minute walk), I take the risk of getting hit by a car because there aren't even crosswalks.

2023-06-11 19:51
The theory was the easy part, the worst part is the practical because you have to drive like a spastic basically exaggerating everything to the most ridiculous degree, staring at mirrors for like 10 seconds, looking over your shoulder at a fucking pillar seeing nothing but pretending you're checking a "blind spot" that is literally a blind spot cuz you can't see anything because there is a solid chunk of car there but if you were to instead use your mirrors (where you can see) to actually check that spot instead of the shoulder check, you would get a fail.
2023-06-10 01:27
2 replies
right! they learn you something that is imho even more dangerous, why would i look in mirror for like 3 seconds (in some scenarios i get it, but they need it everytime)? also, why would i need to look with my "full head", my eyes can also move also they should have more respect for one hand driving, not whole time, but in some scenarios, it is lot of times more safer to use and hand and have second one on a gear stick
2023-06-10 02:00
You do both because the mirror sure has a blind spot if a car comes from even further left for example. I agree with you that it gets exaggerated in the lessons/test butsure helps for the safety
2023-06-10 06:43
its even harder in Sweden (and probably more expensive as well) ;(((

I agree. I think the age limit for driving should stay low in the US, because in allmost all of the country you simply have to have a car. But driving should be acknowledged to be as deadly as it is and drivers have to be trained. Doesnt have to be mandatory lessons, simply a difficult driving exam should be enough. Btw did you not even have to drive on the highway or anything of the like in your driving exam? Or use a roundabout? Im currently taking driving lessons and I find these to be some of the hardest things to do.
2023-06-11 15:54

nope didn't have to do either of those like i said the covid restrictions at the time made it so it was only two minutes but for my state you had to have a permit for 6 months with like 40 hours logged before you take the driving test. honestly have only driven through roundabouts a few times but they aren't bad once you get used to them and for highways the worst part is getting on them but they are pretty easy once you are on

Roundabouts aren't hard to drive through, I agree. What I find hard about them is that to pass the driving exam here you need to check your mirrors in a certain way before making a turn etc. In a roundabout you have to do this a lot faster than usually, making it harder to do correctly in my experience.

I've certainly done stupid things over the years, never intentionally, they can just happen when you're tired or your mind is elsewhere but I consider myself a rather competent driver and my spotless driving record backs that up, no accidents, no speeding tickets, I've never even been pulled over for anything in 25 years. There are people who speed everywhere, ignore stop signs, go on their phone whilst driving, drink alcohol and drive, and do other really dangerous activities. And I am not being racist but there certainly seems to be a lack of driver training for some people from other countries.

2023-06-10 08:51
here it's shit easy lmfao it's honestly embarrassing...probably also the biggest reason why we have absolute idiots on the roads here. For your LL they ask you to sit for a 25-30 MCQ exam about road signs, which you don't even have to study for if you are attentive enough while roaming around. Then 6 months after your LL, you give a test for your DL. you just need to drive in the shape of an 8 and then an H and you're done. In fact, if you fail your test here then you really shouldn't be driving at all.
2023-06-10 09:00

For me the worst part in Germany it's very expensive and a very long process to get appointment to take theoretical and the practical exams. I must prepare 3000 Euro and allocate about half a year for this process even if I pass everything from the first try. If I would then like to get motorcycle license I would need to start the process all over.

just get a trucking license instead and drive your big rig everywhere you go. I like when the trucks go honk honk

At least people drive quite good in Germany because they are better trained than most other drivers.
2023-06-10 22:08

It also starts with no problem when you are on drugs, or drunk. Little known lifehack but very useful.

do you have online tests to practice? just do them 200x or 500x if needed and one time you'll get lucky with the exam, gl tho, i know those are expensive

Did you have to take driver's Ed class? In my state I had to take a class which was like 2 hours for 3 separate days and then I had to drive with the instructor 4 times for an hour each in order to get it.

the 10 questions were just to get my permit, but to get my full license I had to be 17, pass drivers ed, and take a driving test.

The theory part should be easy in any country. Just do what is most safe.

I'm happy that our country takes the safety of cars seriously! But it's indeed too expensive

Funny thing you can get a driving license that is perfectly valid in germany in countries like Bulgaria or Romania.

Do you realize that you'll have a car that can kill people if you misunderstand the signs? It's not easy and god dammit hopefully it isn't !
2023-06-12 09:54
forget about football and cs then, those 2 things are irrelevant if you look at the bigger picture
2023-06-13 21:18
worst thing here is the actual driving test itself. u gotta drive for like idk 30 mins and even the smallest thing can make u fail. its just a way to squeeze as much money from people as possible.

It should be harder Too many morons driving here, especially in NYC.
2023-06-13 22:04
Honestly, Its more stressful than it looks, at least that's how it was for me. I started studying for the tests at monday 8PM, had the official test at tuesday 9pm, managed to get 98%. And when it comes to driving, Its all up to you. I honestly agree with the fact that the license shouldnt be easy to get, as there is so many morons on the roads already(been into crash that was not my fault, just rookie mistake of the other driver). gl tho, you got it.
2023-06-13 22:09
Cars are useless if you live in a city. I don’t have driver license and probably won’t get it for at least 10 yeats
2023-06-13 22:09
in poland, much stress because of exams(old soldiers, communists and loosers as examinators, they are acting like robots that only want to stress you), teachers sometimes not carring about you and shit ton of money for exams. I could buy some pretty good keyboard. but ofc I failed 2 times ( I'm pretty sure 1st guy wanted me to fail)
