NAF interview
United States PsychoLogical25
dust2.us/news/37912/naf-i-dont-understan.. Specific quotes that stood out: 1) You want us to just be a North American poster team just playing and just being that team? “Oh, there's that team from North America that will most likely never win again because they're always having these obstacles that they have to deal with”. 2) "I don't want to just sit here for the rest of my career just being a poster team, being on social media, being like, “Oh yeah, we're from North America. We're the North American team, but we're just going to be that team that always loses”. I'm here to win. I'm not here to just take a paycheck and just do everything for North America and just be that team. I'd rather have my chance at winning than just being that poster team." 3) "We want to be competitors, we don't want to be a laughingstock, we don't want to be a joke. If people want us to just stay in North America, then alright, I'll collect my paycheck and do my thing and they can just be proud that we're a North American team." TLDR: NAF did interview about the changes to Liquid. And in a nutshell, said what happened was so Liquid can basically attempt to win again. Not be some paycheck stealer and play for a poster team for NA while winning nothing.

I totally understand what he is saying but the signing that liquid made just don't add to what he said in terms of winning. anyways I hope I am wrong

I dont think Patsi's that bad. Rainwaker is the real issue.

definitely, if patsi can regain his form from late 21, he is gonna be an amazing addition

but on the other side, if patsi will play like he played in 2023 he will get cut quickly
2023-07-14 11:59
Possibly, but my thought is Daps recruited him, a lot of great work from him before, and they had like 30 options and they chose him, it's not like they were blindfolded and threw a dart at the wall, I'm sure they had the same concerns as all of us but they have reasoning to choose him, not just because he's cheap or smthn.
2023-07-14 00:51
Patsi/Yekindar as a duo is the questionable thing. Many pros seem to think that rainwaker has been due for a T1 debut for a long time and his role as an anchor/support isn't something that he needs to fill big shoes for and is hardly a risk

+1 i saw interesting stats few days ago. there was graphic with most agressive players in cs. top-1 and top-2 are patsi and yekindar i really dont know how they liquid will play together, especially with capkindar and nOsee with awp.
2023-07-14 20:53
Sadly yekindar will probably just get way less aggressive as an igl, which is a real shame

I dont think we should judge that fast, I remember watching some Rainwaker matches and imo people are underestimating him. Overall, when it comes to firepower, -nitr0 -EliGE +Rainwaker +Patsi is an upgrade.

Not to mention making Yekindar the IGL xd

wanted to play with NA players who won a major******** didnt go because even though they paid more he wanted to win. No shot you're calling NAF a paycheck stealer
2023-07-14 00:54
Wanted to play with Auti who's still a decent player and probably some great assets, instead EG went for the -IQ moves onde again

NGL, this summer break was Liquids BEST CHANCE to sign S1mple again. together with YEKI and NAF they wouldve been with one foot in the finals of every event they would join. now THAT would really persuade their fans.

Thats a good attitude, NAF. However simply getting out of NA won't make the team good. I am sure there were better options out there, though this is likely yekindar going mad. Whether or not this madness will end up as genius or just another Niko IGL i don't know, but if i'd guess, no better than the previous lineup.

ok but they kept oSee who is just that, NA poster team signing that is now overstaying his welcome, and they got 2 EU guys with 0 tier1 experience and not exactly mind blowing ability sooo... if this is your attempt at becoming top5... wtf, did they get EG to do the signings?

They kept oSee to get an automatic invite to the EU RMRs and not go through the open qualification system, many have speculated

this doesnt make much sense honestly. major is too far ahead, its more likely they didnt want to completely revamp the team and gave osee one more chance in a new roster. i wouldn't be surprised if they kick him in 3 months.

He’s right but patsi and rainwaker don’t scream “major winner” Maybe they are hoping for that random cis magic like gambit in 2017 or outsiders in 2022?
2023-07-14 01:06
3 replies
probably. Patsi at least has some argument due to being a semifinalist at the PGL Antwerp Major and a quarterfinalist at the IEM Rio major with Team Spirit. Rainwaker meanwhile doesn't exactly have alot.

Yea I remember patsI in 2022 but this year so far he has not been great
2023-07-14 01:20
Rainwaker does have a lot in tier 2 like 1400 maps. Tier 1 specifically no but not absolutely none like some other bozo said
2023-07-14 09:05
hes right. NA has produced almost no good players in the last 5 years. twistzz elige NAF autimatic, these guys have been around for like 8 years and they're still the best players in NA. grim is the only new NA player who looks like he has the potential to be world class. its not liquid's fault that NA isn't producing tier 1 players.
2023-07-14 01:08
NAF crying like he's a victim...good lord Maybe Liquid should have had some forethought and brought talent up instead of crying nobody is ready in NA

And yet he's not exactly wrong. I know there's people like Swisher but be realistic, you really think they're going to gamble on him and other NA players? NA is far behind compared to Europe. That's an actual fact. Be real, our continent is fucking trash at producing talent. And have trash mentality to even try. Basically a paycheck stealing mentality right now. Even fucking Asia is far better at this and the entire continent's scenes are almost extinct due to VALORANT. And it's like he also basically said in the interview, if you want to be the best and learn from the best, you got to go to Europe. It's where all tier one are located in currently. Unless CS2 revives and revitalizes the NA scene and brings life to everywhere's scenes that isnt Europe, nothing NAF said is wrong. Get it through your head.

He’s kind of right though? Who are NA players stealing paychecks from right now? The few orgs that are fielding rosters are unstable and definitely do not pay anywhere near the bigger orgs, so of course it’s harder to stick to it as a team and develop if their is no monetary backing outside of tournament prize pools. Look at who are the best na teams right now? Ex-atk, who were getting a salary before the org couldn’t afford it, the former eg academies who were also getting paid (PA was also poorly supported during their time in eg in terms of actually being allowed to do anything), nouns who are getting paid, and wildcard who are getting paid. Talent needs support and liquid didn’t even try an academy team project. Just compare NA to brazil who has 50 million academy/small teams even though they haven’t achieved much on a high level recently. You could argue the fans don’t pay in as much compared to Brazilian ones but the idea that NA is paycheck stealing is outdated and contradicts reality.
2023-07-14 01:44
I really feel like they could have just taken Swisher. He plays Patsi's roles and is willing to move to EU as well. He's a solid prospect too, putting up good numbers in EPL as well.
2023-07-14 09:29

Even if he didnt, he'd still likely go look for any EU team that wants him since that's where he wants to end up, like with Twistzz basically.
2023-07-14 01:32
It's funny because he associates losing with NA
2023-07-14 01:35
Oh man, can't wait for this roster to flop. Rooting for them to lose groups
2023-07-14 02:11
I'd understand if they signed some actual legit players, but abandoning your NA identity and fanbase for rain walker and patsi is crazy

youd rather have swisher and brehze and lose every game? then eventually lose naf and yekindar then just be the next eg cause NA talent all went to valo?

lets be real u probably never watched 2 of them play

Patsi has potential, but hes way too aggressive especially if hes paired with YEKINDAR. He was a beast last year but has cooled off a lot since, and rainwalker is a mediocre tier 2 talent who certainly isn't the calibre of Team Liquid. Additionally why would anyone have faith in YEKINDAR calling? I think this liquid team will not even become a top 10 team and eventually go through a whole roster overhaul

Did you really watched rainwaker play tho?? I arent think that...
2023-07-14 03:53
yeah and you would probably say the same about YEKINDAR when he played in pro100 or BOROS/iM before major etc not sure why do you feel the need to open your mouth and have a reaction when first of all you clearly have 0 knowledge or credidentials and 2nd you have 0 clue about Patsi and Rainwaker and never watched them play

liquid wont win anything if yakindar remains as the igl. its not hard to figure out what will happen just by taking a glance at other star players that tried out igling like niko, shox or electronic the patsi and rainwaker moves seem like a logical step in the right direction but only time will tell

Respect to NAF for wanting to win, but as #60 said, this roster is not the way to go
2023-07-14 08:44
wants to win but alright with adding patsi and rainwaker, on top of that having osee who seriously could go back to being mediocre at best something doesnt add up oh and yekindar as igl, i guess he thinks he can go full animal entry , die on tt and then proceed to be a mastermind and talk during round while he's dead

2023-07-14 08:59
W Naf, as always
2023-07-14 09:00
other tier 1 NA players are in other teams now anyways, so you would have to dig through the NA scene that junior could have a 1.25 rating against. obviously some 322 bulgarian guy in tier 3 is better
2023-07-14 09:15
They are a poster team and they do that for paychecks. Partner teams and tournaments are a joke nowadays
2023-07-14 09:29
Can an NA team not just live in Europe? Literally the only positive from this move is playing EU FPL and playing better teams consistently. The team doesnt even seem stronger than with Elige and Nitr0 though. I get Rainwaker has some potential, but thats all it is at this point. It's just so odd to me that they're talking about how they want to win, yet they're penny pinching.
2023-07-14 20:52

You do get, that is a massive positive though? Playing vs top teams? Rather than playing vs top 100 teams, there's a massive fuckin difference, also not having to travel back and forth constantly is a nice change, and saves a lot of valuable time.
2023-07-14 21:03
NAF’s recent 3 part reflection series with thorin was amazing. He revealed EVERYTHING about his career thus far.
2023-07-14 21:11
Liquid went straight into the bin 3 years ago when they: -lost igl -kept stewie???? -lost best NA player -didn't give elige the "improve or gtfo" talk he needed

I still can’t believe how long they kept Stewie. Who knows how many more trophies that could have gotten had they had replaced him earlier
