I am afraid an exclave is not an island, because almost every country on Earth would then have an exclave, so an island is an island.
Otherwise, a great island, yep!
they're pretty much for themselves tho, we only share the language and laws lol
its considered italy technically yeah but the people from there dont care
Imagine how much bigger Russia used to be than it is right now considering the fact that it also owned Alaska. Wow.
Otherwise, I know that Alaska is treated very well by the US, so those who live there must have great lives.
Some factors are due to Alaska's sheer size, where it's notoriously difficult for law enforcement to reach various areas, especially rural ones. Some of those spots even lack law enforcement either. And the state has a massive drug and alcohol problem. Doesn't help that Alaska is very isolated due to its size like I mentioned.
Germany has a small enclave called „Büsingen am Hochrhein“ that is completely surrounded by Switzerland.
Other than that it isn’t a particularly notable place but if I’m ever in the area and have some spare time I would love to visit just for the novelty of it
The worst feeling must be when the enclave/exclave of a country is completely surrounded by other countries which do require the citizens of the enclave/exclave to get a visa to get into them.
Good it is EU.
Been to Kaliningrad once. Except singular remaining German buildings, that's one of the most Soviet cities I've ever seen in my life, surrounded by EU countries
Its actually two big conflict areas, lots of poverty and corruption, and there's the infamous barbed wire wall where immigrants try to climb it to reach spanish soil, and several die every year...
