Not trying to be mean or disrespectful, but I don't like songs with low views or streams because that is usually an indication that they aren't good.

Not really. Songs with more streams just make them more attractive to me. It makes me wonder what makes a particular song so popular, so I listen to it. I just scroll past songs with low streams. Songs with low streams (<100k) or 5min+ long are usually 90% garbage and boring from my experience.

2023-09-07 15:58
He is right though. More so than being insecure it has more to do with deferring to the crowd because there is a positive correlation between good music and high viewership. Like sure there are bangers with low views but high views = good music is more often than not a true observation.

When talking about pop or rap, sure, maybe. But when talking about more niche music genres, like ambient, I don't think that's the case. Except for artists like Aphex twin or Boards of Canada which are famous already.

High viewership 90% of the time means it's a mainstream garbage that was made to appear to a wider audience (majority of which doesn't listen to anything other than what is playing on radio, or in top charts)

Wrong. There is a correlation between marketing music and music posted on the internet. You have great songs with low views just because they have no labels, no advertisement whatsoever. It was posted 13 days ago, come on

Yes, it does. Otherwise it's listenable. If you don't like it at all and want to stop after 5s, is a subjective point of view. I don't want to argue with you about your taste in music, I'd like you to avoid crushing someone's confidence for no good reason with untrue statements.

With pop, rock or rap - sure, but with music like ambient I think he has a point (although he obviously acts like an idiot on purpose because he's a pathetic baiter). Aphex Twin's ambient works, or BoC, are widely known and have probably the most views (or streams, whatever it's called nowadays), and their music is top notch. Meanwhile smaller artists are, obviously, also good, but often they just lack... something. I don't know what is it, but it's something that the big artists have - and that's probably why they got big in the first place

I think there's a piece of my soul that's genuinely touched by these slowly desintegrating sounds, I look at it as alegory of life, as the loops get more and more distorted towards the end (fun fact - Beksinski achieved it by physically running the tapes with music through a device that made each other loop playback a little bit more distorted)

I listened to all three. They were interesting but it lacks something to me. I don't know if it's a rhythm or some repetitive parts of the melody, however when I stopped, I can't reproduce the sound in my head, I don't have a tune, a catch that will make me remember it. Anyway, GG. I have a big respect for someone who has the courage to release songs in such an environment. As a composer myself, I don't think I'd have risked it

Thanks for sharing! They're definitely pieces that can feel like they're missing something, in fact that's exactly how I felt about ambient music back in the day but it changed over the course of years :) and don't be afraid of publishing your own music mens! These pieces are literally almost entirely improvised and recorded with a phone and then equalized in sony vegas lmao... But some people like it and I like it too, and that's what matters! Go ahead and find the courage to do the same mens)) especially when you work on something more serious and demanding than just some improvisations. It can only be something positive, in the worst case scenario some ppl won't like it, but who cares :) trust me, if You'll like it then there will be people who will like it too!

I have completed 12 years of musical education, so I guess from everywhere, from classical music all the way up to modern atonal stuff. But from ambient I would say my favourite artists are Aphex Twin, Brian Eno and Boards of Canada, I love the atmosphere they can create on a track. The inspiration comes 100% from my own heart, but I definitely aim to make music that makes you feel like their music, you know? Yeah definitely, I've made some ambient-only-mixtapes too, I always also try to mix in some ambient pieces to other genres such as techno or breaks to create some everlasting blends. RIP Pete Namlook Lately I've been listening a lot to Shinobu Nemoto's "Melting Loop Trip" and GAS's albums like "Pop" and "Gas". Oh yeah, these YT links are your tunes? Nice, lush, lovely. Would listen again, thx for sharing.

Ambient 3 - too much noice, other stuff cant go through it, maybe add some sort of filter cutoff automation/sidechain to make it more "wavy" idk. Improv 1 - This is much better and more chill, tho i would definitely love to see some light drums pattern over it. Hats and Percussion would sound dope over it. Ambient 5 - same problem as Ambient 3 Overall 7,5/10 i would say

Thanks for your feedback! I definitely think they aren't perfect but for an improvisation recorded with my phone 7,5/10 is still very high! :D

These are really nice man, I quite like the choice of sounds in Ambient 5, with the lofi organ with the chords in the background make it really relaxing, great job keep it up :) Edit: the guy shit talking at the start of the thread was absolutely brilliant haha
