cs2 hdd load times
 |
North Macedonia Svetskii
after downloading cs2, my cs folder took up like 70gbs and my ssd had only 10gbs left of storage space and my whole pc was lagging all the time so i was forced to delete the game if i wanted my pc to be usable still. but i have a lot of space left on my hdd and since cs2 has improved loading times, would downloading it to my hdd have decent loading times (shorter than 20s?)

Maybe your HDD is dying but anyway installing an SSD is not a big deal, when you plan to fully upgrade you can keep the ssd is not like its gonna die

SSDs generally work better when you leave some space on them (5-10%ish). If you have 256gb ssd, your PC should be in no harm if you manage to squeeze CS and leave 20gb of free space (SSDs are never full, even at a 100% they purposely leave some space clear of data). That said if you don't want to slow your PC drastically and enjoy CS2 faster loading speeds you need to make room for that on your SSD. Alternatively you could just cope with slower loading times with HDD. Take into account that CS2 generally runs slower after graphic drivers update and if you first load into a map as shaders need to sort themselves. If I were you however, I would totally ditch that whatever reason and buy another SSD (if it's not something very important). It's good investment as you could use it for many years and put it into your next PC.

it is 30 euros too much
2023-09-15 22:45
wdym it's normal to have 240gb ssd and 2tb hdd in 2023, ofc not new build but majority have that

not my problem that you have a hard time understanding english also installing your games on the hdd is not what you want, you want to install them on your ssd for faster load times same as your windows hdd is optimal to store data like pics, vids and documents

how expensive exactly? cause in summer 2020 i bought 240gb ssd for 25$ which still works flaweless to this day. I have only dota, cs and some software installed, and it does the job. Just invest 25$ men its literally lifechanging once u switch to ssd.

either bullshit or summer sale. i just know that they were so expensive that it made sense to go for an small ssd/big hdd instead of today where ssds are basically dirt cheap and are only like 2x more expensive than hdds but are 20x faster (even the cheapest ones)
2023-09-15 20:57
$25 is really cheap if u make +3k but if u make ~$300 its not that cheap anymore in some countries people make ~$100 a month and they dont have local storage producer

Don't worry mate. I run storage with mechanincal disks and use them to store the game files. It's not a problem in essence, but the storage systems may involve a degradation of performance when less free space is available. The blocks get allocated out of order, and that will mess up the whole performance thing. A fragmented file system is slower. There's a defrag.exe file on your computer, you may want to run it? Thought I'm not sure it works with NTFS, but worth an attempt. Press Start and select a program to be launched, and run "defrag". This will potentially work for you, thought I can't make any promises.

I would reckon the disk controller would want to do load averaging and balancing on the SSD since it's wear-leveled and the blocks are set up as optimally as possible.

HDD is perfectly fine for it. The only times it actually loads something from storage to memory are when you load up a map. It's basically just waste of SSD space if you don't install it on HDD.

What do you have on the ssd? Maybe you can check your download, docs and desktop folder and see what you have there. It's easy to mess and download a couple of things and forgot they exist while they are 10gb or so. Btw, if you wait until csgo is no longer a thing, it should be back to half the storage it needs now.

bro using a horse as his main vehicle in 2023. do yourself a favor and get SSD with decent read speed. Ive got myself 4TB 7300/7000 and it opens CS2 faster than I blink

The game will have decent loading times, but it will have massive stutters when you play, regardless of settings.
