Yes, its quite a shame that like most blockbuster TV shows, they made it last far too long, and quality of course dropped off as they ran out of ideas. Though I will admit it was pretty funny with "THEY'RE FIRING ON US!"

The Wire is excellent, by far the least bias/most “realistic” portrayal of the war on drugs. If you are interested, “We Own This City” starring Jon Bernthal was written by the same showrunner and is something of a successor to the Wire, about the infamously corrupt plainclothes units in Baltimore in the late 2000s/early 2010s.

Yea. The Wire is definitely a tad bit too humorous/ridiculous for real life (aside from Omar who was actually made more realistic than his real life counterpart believe it or not) versus We Own This City is gritty and real and not afraid to truly air the dirty laundry of the police. Or show how the cycle can turn decent cops into bad ones, or drive even good cops to edge with shame.
Best show of all time for me. Good that you liked it.

I've watched it twice and I've never felt the level of disgust for a made-up character until I watched this show. to put it simply Tony is the biggest piece of shit hypocritical racist with charming and decent moments where you might believe that he has changed, but then something pops up and he's the same old sociopath again. insane acting and writing
The wire is way superior than BB, just look at how many characters The Wire has, and everyone is 10/10
It's very genuine
imo, Omar's ending was infuriating but just. It was just because nobody could get Omar, literally no one except a <spoiler ahead> a kid</spoiler>, He had his guard down for all the right reasons and no one saw it coming. His character remains untouchable by his enemies but even he couldn't escape the violent and chaotic city. The Baltimore city was its own character.
I am gonna watch it again for the fourth time in December.

yeh guess it seemed 20 yrs because in yr 12 was 2002 when i first started watching and that was when everyone was talking about it at school, it was the juicy season because it was in the eyes of the drug dealers
thats how they laid out the show each season, each season different perspectives they werent even going to go beyond season 3 at one point,, which was in the eyes of the cops
season 4 is like in the eyes of the politicians and season 5 is in the eyes of the media

Honestly the most overrated show without a doubt. Have watched it from start to finish and had to absolutely force myself to do so, couldn't go any further. Not sure how it's so highly rated by so many people, probably one of the greatest mysteries I've ever known. Great cast though, just so so unwatchable and low quality for me. Really wanted to like it though. Breaking bad still takes the top spot for me.

I don't believe for a second that the zoomer attention spans here have actually watched it let alone finished it. People here can't even get through the start of Breaking Bad..
It's a very slow series where the wide majority is about the writing/dialogue, telling a long story about the city
