Consolation final, not 'consolidation final'
United States TutsiRebel
I have seen SO MANY esports 'journalists' confuse these terms (only one of which is even remotely sensible) when covering tournaments it's embarrassing. For goodness' sake, just think about the literal meaning of the two words. consolation - settling for less after having your hopes (1st place finish) dashed consolidation - bringing multiple things together So one more time: a 4th / 3rd place deciding match is called a CONSOLATION final. I'm aware that english is only a 2nd or even a 3rd language for most of the people writing this stuff, but if you're gonna bother writing in the language at least attempt some air of professionalism

with consolidation final/match they mean the match between the winner bracket 2nd team (winner bracker final loser) and the loser bracket winner team, one of which shall make it to the grand final match

Not so obvious; people still confuse the two terms.

i always did thinking me speaks zeh language very gud. :(((

Actually, we discussed this a lot back in the day and agreed that "consolidation - bringing multiple things together" brings upper and lower bracket together. And at the same time, it doesn't console anyone, you still have a chance for a 1st place finish, it only decides 3rd place for the team that loses the match.

Why none of the admins answer me? Is boicotting 1.6? Why there's no news about the update?
2013-02-16 22:29
yeah one news in should be the solution for 1.6 dead

would love to post news but i haven't found the update notes anywhere, clicking on update news just brings me to some cs_office article by pcgamer. if you link me, i will post it later for sure.

No we are not boycotting it, we are actually gathering information about the fixes and plan on posting about that.. We did miss out on the update news, it didn't seem like it was such a big mess originally, seemed like another minor irrelevant update. And yea, in general at least I don't answer such provocative questions ("boycotting"), so that's probably why admins don't answer you

You must be a troll, you didn't even read what he wrote. Its not about 3rd/4th place, its about who wins the championship... Obviously you have never heard of double elimination. Consolidation final brings lower and upper bracket together to determine the champion.

Got it a bit mixed up, Tgwri1s is correct.

Apparently you are talking about something that no one actually calls consolidation final, but what we call a 3rd/4th place decider. Consolidation final is only used as a term for a match in a double elimination bracket, where a 3rd place playoff match doesn't exist. You don't win anything to become 3rd, you lose the consolidation final, so this is not a "third place playoff" match. You've obviously got something mixed up by even bringing the 4th place into this discussion, since 4th place is decided before this match, in the lower bracket final. A 3rd/4th place match in a single elimination bracket can be called a consolation final, that would be fine, and that is what your wiki link is about. We don't call it that around here, but we do use 3rd/4th place decider or a bronze medal match.

they should call it constellation final. because aren't we all just a tiny part of this great universe?
2013-02-16 22:28
+1 sry , sry for insultes.
2013-02-16 22:31
let's just call it final-before-the-final-final !
2013-02-16 22:31
a good idea :D
2013-02-16 22:38
this makes about as much sense as 'consolidation' final
2013-02-16 22:40
as #6 said, consolidation makes sense for the match that combines the upper bracket and lower bracket champions. at we have, to my knowledge, never used the word consolidation final as a 3rd/4th place decider match.

Tournaments with double elimination i.e Upper Bracket and Lower Bracket system have a CONSOLIDATION FINAL i.e bringing together both brackets. I don't know which situation you are exactly refereeing to but it seems you don't know about consolidation finals.

...who cares...
