So what's the maximum 'rate' now?
World Y5lo4U5ro
It used to be 20000 (though you used to stumble upon those people every now and then who were hallucinating about it being '25000') and now I heard it's not capped like that anymore, that you can use the values up to 10000. Do they servers support this though? Or was it (is it) limited only on the client-side and what do servers do should not be of our concern (apart of setting it up properly, i.e. giving the 'sv_maxrate' '0' or '100000' value)? Should I use 100000? Should I setup all the servers to use 100000 as maximum, as well?

*values up to 100000 I mean, obviously. My bad.

I'd say higher rates means game more like on lan because of less lag and other net stuff, but I'm most likely wrong.

No, as long as you and the server can transfer data between each other at 100 kbps (that's what I think 'rate 100000' stands for) steadily, it's not the case. I mean, the reason why they say in all those outdated guides (like the official instruction that is bundled with the game) that you should use lower (as low as 2500) rates on 56k dial-up connection is that that's the actual speed of a dial up.

You're right but you misunderstood me. I meant higher rate - more 'lanish' gameplay but of course your net must be capable of transfering that much data. I guess if not you'd have high loss and choke.

Isn't 'rate 100000' the equivalent of downloading a file with a speed of 100 kBps? If so, then isn't it like virtually everybody nowadays is able to download files with such a speed? At least everyone who would you his/her connection for gaming. And isn't 'choke' caused by the server not being able to send all the data? I'll have more choke if you lower your rate (in any case and on any CS, after or before the update, even 1.5 =D).

idk man ;d All I'm saying is if a server have sv_max rate "100000" you should be using rate "100000" as well,m but I said I could be wrong ; D
2013-02-24 15:40
i think most servers still have sv_maxrate 20000..
2013-02-24 13:05
Yeah, and what if I have access to the rcon console? Should I set it up to use 100000? Will it even work, I mean, have the servers been updated as well?
2013-02-24 13:11
i don't know, just give it a try and see how it works.. you'll be able to see the difference
2013-02-24 13:21
the max rate was actually 25000 :DDD there was an obvious difference between 20000 and 25000.
2013-02-24 15:09
Oh geeze, not again.
2013-02-24 15:10
there was an obvious difference between 20000 and 25000. instantly after shooting a few bullets i could tell if my rate has been changed to 20000! 25000 is much smoother. like now 100000 is 10x smoother than 25000
2013-02-24 15:12
You are obviously hallucinating. Assuming that we are discussing how did it all work before the recent updates.

This was never the case. The game allowed you to put up to 25000, but if you look at net_graph it did nothing in terms of sending more packets.

rate 30000 cl_updaterate 102 cl_cmdrate 105 ex_interp 0.01 for A.W.P very good
2013-02-25 00:25
go for ex_interp 0 cl_updaterate 100 ;)
2013-02-25 01:23
ex_interp 0 is bad !
2013-02-25 02:25
it isn't ex_interp 0 Is automatic interp, it will use the updaterate to put the correct interp values. updaterate 100 and interp 0 = 10 ms Read onscreen tutorial

Not sure, but GeT_RiGhT has been using rate 104000 cl_cmdrate 132 cl_updaterate 132

In which game?
