Denmark donadein
Only about 20,000 viewers for NIP vs Virtus.pro in CPH GAMES 2013... and thats UB final. That number is very very low for todays standard in esports, specially when compared to the legendary 1.6 (70k viewrs in 2012 IEM... 50k viewrs ESWC 2011... etc) In your opinion, why CSGO has such low numbers, for todays standards in esports?

2013-03-30 18:35
And ? :S Which is why many people say they see the CG?
2013-03-30 18:37
Not many people are playing the game , compared to SC2 , LOL etc Then ask yourself why not many people are playing csgo? Well the anwser is valve prefers to make you able to carry hostages instead of making the game more like 1.6 to attract players from there , or any other gameplay change that makes cs so unique.

Can u see the difference? This game has been out barely a year, in 2012 1.6 had been for a decade. Thats my best shot on why - im sure CSGO is gonna grow.

How would you explain SC2 beating SC:BW in terms of viewers rightaway?
2013-03-30 19:29

It didn't before Proleague switched.. the only place SC2 > BW in terms of viewers were in Europe (bar BoxeR's debut in GSL)
2013-03-30 22:43

Wrong. SC2 beat BW in viewers everywhere but in South Korea. And SC2 had a higher viewer count at that time than the remaining BW events had.
2013-03-31 00:18

When BW was still going in ProLeague SC2 wasn't even close.. BW went out on national TV.. SK's viewership alone was greater than what Europe & NA can muster up for MLG's and so on.

I see my previous post could have been worded better, but as I stated in the beginning, SC2 beat viewers everywhere but in South Korea. CS:GO has a very slow growth, especially for a Counter-Strike game. SC2 grew big in Europe and the US almost immediately. My point is basically that I do not think the "this game has been out barely a year, in 2012 1.6 had been for a decade" is such a solid argument. I am pretty certain there are other reasons for the game not being so popular.

I agree with that, it's funny to see people boast over 70 000 viewers at IEM in 2012 when events in 2004 had more viewers.. Console games has taken over FPS, PC is all about MOBA and RTS these days :\

I don't give a single fuck how many people are watching NBA matches as long as I am watching and enjoying them and playing the game of basketball. I couldn't GIVE A FUCK about how many people have seen that movie that i waited so long so I can watch. I don't give a fuck how many views does my favorite music artist has on youtube and how many comments his/her videos have. AND I most certainly dont give a fuck how many of you are watching the cs:go streams I enjoy watching and how many HOURS in steam my favorite game ( ATM ) is being played... Why can't you all pathetic people just live your OWN life instead of comparing to what others like and what others do ffs ...

Cs:go doesnt have as many viewers as 1.6 did and most likely never will be the gameplay isnt anywhere near as exciting...they took source and made it into a version of source/c.o.d/battlefield. I dont want to watch a game where my focus is taken away from players bc theres a burning car on my screen like im in the slums of iraq...I dont give a fuck about what the scenery on the map is like, I just want a solid map with places for players to hide/stack/boost etc. Also I hate how there is way less wallbanging in cs:go. Aspects like wallbanging in 1.6 made things more exciting, little things like that could be game changing and blow ur mind. Now in cs:go u have to actually see the person and then strafe back and forth while spraying at their feet to get a random headshot... The game is just nowhere near as exciting to watch from a viewers perspective. Also u never really see a team push up on a single player and have that 1 player take down 4-5 guys in 1 spray like u did in 1.6, its almost like the armor in cs:go is way stronger making it harder to pull off a crazy 5second ace on a rush. Idk, thats just my opinion. I dont really have fun or get excited watching matches, even if its a matchup between 2 of my fav teams, fnatic/NIP.
2013-03-30 20:03
well look at the stream quality difference between the RIOT streams and these poor cs streams. If copenhagen games or valve itself would put some effort in good official streams, then they could keep some viewers. now after 10mins of watching i feel tired because of stupid casters/laggy stuff.

The game needs good prizes to get more viewers. Maybe also becoming a F2P game may help, though when you can play COD for $1Million on console or every other month 15-20k SC2 at MLG why would people flock to CSGO for a few thousand every now and then?
2013-03-30 22:14
game is boring to watch, all the fancy graphics did not make up for the lack of depth in gameplay.game is just garbage.
2013-03-30 22:26
no surprise. in one match the casters didn't say a word about the match for 4 straight rounds. no joke. and it was early in the match, not a 14-2 situation. i have usually enjoyed the casting of the very same casters but i don't know what they were thinking.

Because it is Counter-strike global offensive? technically speaking the people of 1.6 should have migrated to cs:s and then to cs:go. but valve keeps on repeating it's mistakes. They knew cs:s was a flop game still they considered source players for advice and i guess they should be happy for that almost all Source players have switched to GO and i would not give credit of that to valve. It's just that they are used to of playing a shitty game. So this is not a new game it is a new version cs:s which was a new version of the biggest fps game ever COUNTER STRIKE 1.6.

There were ~44 channels streaming CS, almost half and one third the numbers streaming dota 2 and LOL, SC2. Despite what some people might say, cs never had a big streaming culture, where as SC2, Dota 2, the spectator client is a central feature in the game. The streams itself doesn't hold a candle unfortunately compared to the production quality of the top SC2/dota streaming studios. And also the tournament itself - SO MANY games crammed into such a tight schedule. People aren't able to watch all day, of course you are going to miss games, as well as some questionable streaming decisions as to what games to spectate. Unless valve start putting the $$$ into CSGO, its a stupid exercise thinking it will hit the same as SC2/dota2/lol where the devs have poured money into the game to make it initially stand out from the crowd. Still, it was the 3rd most watched game on twitch for a while, which is certainly promising. Plus the navi fiasco. They were douchebags for pulling out like that - I am not commenting on what happened regarding admins/miscommunication, but they DISAPPOINTED THEIR FANS, pulling out of one the biggest lan events so far.

The numbers were pretty decent if you take into consideration that besides 20k viewers on streams, there were at least as much (or even more if you see that official casters aren't that popular with the crowd) on GOTV. I personally picked the second alternative in all cases because I'd rather try to comprehend the moves myself than hearing some random and inaccurate stuff by the side of someone quite incompetent or without much knowledge on the game. There are so many things that can be improved in order to get enormous numbers like in other games. I'm not even sure if it was possible to check out how many people were watching it ingame? Personally, I'd be happy tune into a stream with Joe Miller or Paul (ReDeYe) doing the casting part...

cs:go is over 2 years old not to mention cs 1.6 in it's first CPL event had over 30k specs ON HLTV and this was an era where nobody knew about competitive esports and now we are in 2013 and csgo can't even smell those numbers based on your userid you must be new to the scene and most likely an active cs:go supporter

but its more than Mad Catz Invitation, who only 13k viewers on Final
2013-03-31 12:58
How many long people will be saying that it is only beginning? Time to get more popularity already came. After 7 months I am say that CS:GO died. CS 1.6 is unbeatable. P.S. This event was most majority than others (best teams from all over the world. interest could be huge) and only 20,000k? Shit.
2013-03-31 14:36
One of the biggest problem is that people dont like cs:go and don't even prefer to watch it, they better prefer to play cs 1,6. Other problem is that some people dont have enough powerful computers to play cs:go and simple they are not intrested in it. Talking about this event finals games was played late in night maybe because this is the reason why only 20k viewers.

2013-03-31 15:19
No the biggest problem is that all the tournaments are getting delayed as fuck...Starting the grand final at 3 AM when youre trying to reach out to the european market is just stupid
2013-03-31 16:23
Yeah, it was 4 a.m. here when the game started. 20k is a great number
2013-03-31 15:18

It was over 30.000 a while in the right time and you have to count more then just twitch, people think that twitch is all, but many news sites have their own streams and then there is GOTV and offcourse people who watch the game from shared clients thus only counting as 1 view.

I checked your steam page and you still haven't bought CSGO. Recoil has changed for the better in one of the previous patches but I agree the game has yet a long way to go.

I don't really have enough time to play right now. I am judging GO from the months I played the beta and what I see on the streams.

The recoil is quite enjoyable right now, even though GOTV doesn't make it look good.

It's just not as entertaining to watch or play. They should have done what blizzard did with the starcraft series, they kept the feel and gameplay of the original game while adding lots of new stuff to it and making it more 'modern' looking at the same time. Why would you not start from there when you had so many people playing 1.6 mainly because of the great gameplay it had ?. And if you dont like playing something you probably dont like watching it either.

valve is stupid,just it.

I've seen around 25k around noon Saturday... Every single time during those events I give up before tournament goes into decisive phase. I don't care enough to stay up till 3am <--- this is something that is killing tournaments. Is it also that bad with LoL/DOTA?
2013-04-02 23:07
