Use barbells instead of dumbbells for a bit
2015-02-10 20:45
You sure? Isnt dumbbels better for isolate exercices?
2015-02-10 20:47
compound movements (basic exercises with a barbell such as deadlift, bench press, barbell curls etc) have always been better for beginners since most people forget they have a dominant arm & will be able to gain more in that one due to it being able to perform the exercises much more efficient with compound movement u get the other body parts up to par.
2016-08-23 06:39
A curl is not a compound exercise, because because it only gives resistance through one joint. Your entire post lost all merit because you don't have any idea what a compound movement is. You can do tons of compound movements with a dumbbell
2016-08-23 07:27
Jheri curl is a hairstyle
2016-08-23 07:32
while i agree i miss used the term since its multi muscle exercises that are called compound movements i feel a barbell curl still is in there due to the fact u use both arms on it meaning u use both of them not just one. Also the fact that i feel its much better in terms of trying to even out ur arms quicker in comparison to when u use a dumbbell. do note this is just how it feels for me.
2016-08-23 15:22
look up the 1-2-1 routine. 1 rep with left, rep with both at the same time, 1 rep with left. this will help cause you'll be focusing more on your left arm but youll still be working your right so it helps with muscle balance. either that or just do an extra set with a bit more weight for your left arm.
2016-08-23 07:15

mate if you use barbells your stronger arm will do most of the work unless you force yourself to do it with your weaker one. With dumbbells you can't cheat hence it's way better Also use dumbbels your weaker arm can get the desired reps with your stronger arm will feel not as trained as it could do more but that will equal out with time
2016-08-23 02:22
that would only be possible if the barbell was fixed from rotation... you have to put equal force in from both arms to lift it vertically and level, gym bro.
2016-08-23 06:29
no you don't, you can just apply twisting in the wrist to put a greater resistance on your stronger arm (you will do this automatically when you're tired) in theory, if your wrist is strong enough, you can curl a bar with one hand without holding it in the middle
2016-08-23 07:31
even if he did that it would be far more even than cheat curls on the left arm to even up reps shit form is shit form don't assume he has perfect in one and not the other, brah
2016-08-23 07:52
Probably wont be seen but, what you can do, is still use dumb bells, but do a 1-2-1 routine. So its your left arm that isnt matching up with the other, so youre gonna do a rep on left arm, then curl BOTH left and right, then left again. So itll be left, then both, then left again.
2016-08-23 07:13

Do you use dumbbells or barbells?
2015-02-10 20:50
Use dumbells, same weight on each arm. Start the set with your weaker arm first then see how many you do. Ensure you're hitting 8-12 range. Then go with your stronger arm second and only do as many as you have done with your weaker arm. i.e. If you do 10 reps with weaker arm, only do 10 reps with stronger. Eventually they'll even out. Stay away from barbells, stay away from close grip pullups. Generally, stay away from two arm bicep exercises and train your weaker arm first, and keep to the same reps on your stronger.
2015-02-10 20:51
Hum will try that? the problem in biceps exercices i use dumbbells only and its always isolated... but i will try ur tip thanks

It depends on how long you have been working out as well. I have been working out 8 times a week for about a month now (not arms only ofc). And even tho my left bicep is showing more my right arm is still bigger and stronger. I guess it just takes more time before they even out?
2015-02-10 20:59
If you're right handed, your right will most likely be the stronger one. It's just muscle memory/genetic$$$.

Genetics play a role on that one, try isolate exercises, add some extra heavy reps on your left arm and also try to start with your left hand because it will rest less and it will require you to push more, hope it helps.

2015-02-10 21:48
I don't know how big the difference is but it is common to have a bigger muscle than the opposite, it happens often.. make sure you're doing the same reps with same weight
2015-02-10 20:58
Sounds like you're doing the exercise wrong and when you get to your left arm you're over-compensating with the shoulder and use more moment to do the same weight on both arms. The solution is to go down in weight on both arms, but doing the exercise slower and more controlled, and of course learn to do them right. Instead of all those idiots in gym that always sway their body and pull with chest and shoulder aswell, just because they have too much weight on the dumbbells.

haha seen one of these idiots today he used so much weight he nearly fell over when he brought the barbell up to chest level. Always amazing to watch their sweet form. Also digging the chest idiots that take to much weight just to let their bro support them as soon as they do one rep.
2016-08-23 02:24
You can move a little bit and swing a little :) if you feel the tension in you'r muscle you are not doing it wrong :D when i mean swing
2016-08-23 02:41
use barbells for compound movements & dumbbells for isolation movements such as the spider curl.
2015-02-10 21:01
Hey dude. I have the same thing, it's because I'm right handed so I do all the things with right arm. In example carry bags with my right arm. My right arm/hand just gets little bigger because of that.
2015-02-10 21:04
Yes but its annoying...That is not fair my left arms should be lioke my right...Do you think if we start doing things with left hand it will help us?
2015-02-10 21:09
Yeah, I have started carrying bags with my left hand etc. And when I got stitches in my right arm about 2 weeks ago, I started using hand grip thing with my left hand and now that I got my stitches off my both arms are about same strength and also size difference is much smaller.
2015-02-10 21:37
wowo hand grip i got it one today i start doing..I have a question how much hand grip uyou do? You just do like randomly every day? Or do you make like 1 hour or etc..

If you're one of those guys who only train arms & chest, that's what you deserve ;) However you'd want to pay attention to your technique, learn to squeeze the reps as clean or cleaner than your stronger arm. You might be using more momentum and not the actual muscle. Also notice if you always carry dumbells / plates with the stronger arm. That means it gets more volume and is therefore bigger, eg. if you load the leg press, lets say 16 plates using mostly the stronger arm... If you are a gym noob you should be more worried about your overall development, are your chins / bench press / squats / rows going up or stalling? Focus on progression on these big multi-joint movements (this tip will speed up your results more than anything and save you from looking imbalanced and stupid) Keep it up (+ start reading some better forums, hltv org is the wrong place for gym tips generally ;)

Your form is fucked up, stop ego lifting. /thread
2015-02-10 21:29
ego lifting?
2015-02-10 21:35
Its when you lift more than you can handle, so your form starts to suffer, normally its because you're afraid you look like a pussy or whatever.
2015-02-10 22:01
When you cant lift something naturally your stronger side will become engaged more

When doing DB curls start with your left first. Mind Muscle connection is key. You seem to be always focused on your right arm 24/7 and flexing only your right...AKA you're not contracting and controlling as much as you are with your right arm. BArbell curls: Your right arm is most likely using 70% of the weight while your left arm is using 30% . Take your damn time. Dont swing so much until the very last 2 reps
2016-08-16 11:55

2016-08-16 12:58
I guess the best advice is to use dumbbels, work biceps with left first then with the right(sitting dumbbel curls) and try working ur tric with dumbbel one arms should solve the problem(not instantly but if you apply these exercises routinely you will get ur wished result
2016-08-16 13:12
You're obviously doing something wrong with your left arm, like using your shoulders to lift the weight too much instead of the arm. My advice is to look at yourself in the mirror how you lift with your right contra your left arm. Start with your right and copy that exact movement with your left

try using your left hand in your daily life, like simple stuff, lifting groceries and so on. and you could maybe try only 3x10 on right hand and go max on left hand until you can't go anymore. just to try to even things out.
2016-08-16 14:49
Its not that uncommon, i once had a huge left shoulder, when my right one was tiny af. It gradually levels out unless you are doing horribly wrong.
2016-08-16 14:52
just start jacking off with ur skinnier arm... logic
2016-08-16 20:44
Your dominant arm will naturally be slightly larger. If your aesthetic is really bugging you then use barbell's. The logic behind this is that by training them together the weaker arm will catch up while the stronger arm will maintain its size and gains. I typically like to throw barbell exercises last... make it light enough that you can do a 1-2 second flex at the top and perform 10-12 reps with immaculate form. Dont skimp on the negative either go ALL the way down so you feel a stretch in your lower bicep on both arms... this elongates the bicep making your arms have a "fuller" look as you continue to try to get them to grow. GL op; no masturbate joke here xD.
2016-08-16 20:52
"Your dominant arm will naturally be slightly larger." false.

try to do always more reps with your left arm. i had the same problem , after few months i don't see difference. GL , also watch bradley martyn on youtube this guy does alot of Q&A.
2016-08-23 01:58
You have less strengh in your left arm (unless ur a leftie), so you will allways be able to improve your right arm the most, because it is stronger, you endure longer and harder :), the left one is weaker so you endure less. If you want them to be the same size, don't exercise ur right arm so much for a while.
2016-08-23 02:15
Maybe an extra set on left to catch up + make sure you do the exercise properly on your left arm. Some people get lazy and "cheat" a rep or two each set. Combine that with a none-proper, i.e. curl, it'll add up in time to the results you're with atm. It might be your issue since it's a common one but I'm not sure this is your case at all.
2016-08-23 02:31
I had the same problem just cut ur left arm.It worked for me
2016-08-23 06:53
Probably wont be seen but, what you can do, is still use dumb bells, but do a 1-2-1 routine. So its your left arm that isnt matching up with the other, so youre gonna do a rep on left arm, then curl BOTH left and right, then left again. So itll be left, then both, then left again.
2016-08-23 07:08

I had the similar problem, still have at some point, my reason was that I broke my left arm (in elbow) pretty bad when i was a kid and it kind of grew weak. It sounds stupid maybe, but doing more reps with left arm gave me pretty good result. I was starting with left and doing one extra set with it in the end.
