the city revolves around the oil sands. most people work "on site" which is a basic term for saying you work on the oil sands. there's 5 major companies (suncor, syncrude, canadian natural resources limited, and 2 others I can't think of the name) that each have their own patch of land that takes oil out of the ground. each one of these companies has a bunch of companies that work for them. You can be anything from a welder, electrician, truck driver, heavy machinery operator, to a cleaner, a cook or drive a water truck and spray the ground with water to keep the dirt down. I moved up here with my mom and stepdad, took a month off to relax, put out a resume one day and got a job the next. you can also live on site where you get free housing etc and can work say.. 24 days on a 6 days off and they will fly you home for those 6 days and fly you back for free. if you don't mind working for a few years you can save up 100,000's of dollars lol. i see soooo many people driving out in 80k corvettes and 160k lotuses and camaros and everyone has a 50k truck lol.
