Is Luxembourgish a legit language, or just a mix of mostly French and German?
2015-12-24 00:24
mix of french and german but mostly german, so its very easy to learn German or Dutch, i think a german would understand many things but a french guy wouldnt ^^
2015-12-24 00:56
Learning Dutch is harder then you think :) I only speak English and Dutch
2015-12-24 18:00
i understand Dutch and i can read it too. Talking is bit more difficult but i still can talk in dutch
2015-12-24 18:52

english = native german = near enough fluent swedish/norwegian/danish = can understand it perfectly if it's written down, i have some trouble in conversations though (especially with danish, im useless) finnish/spanish = conversational stuff, but not fluent
2015-11-26 12:51
An English native speaking anything else than English? Do you realize how fake your comment looks?
2015-11-26 17:23
do you realise how ignorant your comment looks? english people aren't taught other languages in english schools, it doesn't mean we're incapable of learning things in our own time EDIT: removed insult, sry, your comment just annoyed me a bit but insulting you was uncalled for.
2015-11-26 17:48
Well English is very limited when it comes to a sound pool. It makes most languages hard to learn. Maybe except Spanish, Italian, Japanese and other languages with simple pronunciation.
2015-11-26 18:01
i didn't find german hard to learn/pronounce whatsoever. swedish isn't too bad either. i can speak norwegian/danish but it sounds kinda derpy, although i know especially in norway depending on the region you're in the dialects sound very different, so maybe somewhere my pronunciation would be considered acceptable. at the very least, i'd say a native speaker could probably understand what i'm saying. spanish and finnish are the two i've found most difficult, mainly because i suck at alveolar trills (the "rolled r" sound), and at least in finnish i know being unable to do these is quantified as a speech impediment. obviously i've only grown up in an english culture/environment, so i can't say for sure whether or not i've had a disadvantage when it comes to learning languages, however i've just been doing it out of interest. i don't claim to be perfect, but i enjoy improving.

People speak hungarian and slovenian in prekmurje. Some croatian but we have 3 "official" languages. Slovenian obviously the biggest one. And 2 smaller ones Italian and Hungarian. I think croatian was just accepted as an official language.

In school, we have an option of learning French, Spanish, Latin, or Italian. I would much rather learn something like Russian. Since schools don't provide languages except VERY basic Italian/Spanish at a young age, I've never had the ambition or care to learn another language.
