Video: Interview with TaZ

February 25th, 2013 02:31

We got hold of Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas following ESC Gaming's defeat to Ninjas in Pyjamas and discussed with the Polish veteran his team's campaign at Mad Catz.

After coming out on top of the SLTV StarLadder and the CS:GO tournament at IEM Poland, ESC Gaming were denied entry into the Mad Catz final after losing to NiP on two maps (16-8 de_dust2_se, 16-12 de_inferno_se).

The Polish side were then inflicted more misery in the bronze final, this time by VeryGames, as a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the French team saw them finish outside the bubble.

In this 11-minute long interview, Wojtas talks about the defeats to NiP and n!faculty, the players' obsession with stats against weaker sides and the difference between the way the team play on LAN and online. He also comments on NiP's dominance in the CS:GO scene, stating that it is "killing the game".

Maybe not the best player (a beast, but not top 1), but an awesome person and who makes the best interviews in and whole cs scene.
2013-02-25 02:46
I'm not a fan of ESC at all. But I am a big, big fan of TaZ now. More honest person is hard to find. Keep it up man!

United Kingdom an0^_^
ESC did really well in my opinion, they need to stop putting themselves down. They're a really great team.
2013-02-25 02:59
Taz is very passionate about his teams' results...always liked that about him :D
2013-02-25 03:08
Such a nice guy
2013-02-25 03:00
taz is the man
2013-02-25 03:11
Very humble guy. Go Go ESC! Sad they didn't take the last game against VG serious, but ye..they had only 4h of sleep and a very hard day.
2013-02-25 03:13
Hope the next tournaments you guys are going to attend will work out a bit better. It's just ridiculous to have to focus after 4 hours of sleeping.

2013-02-25 03:20
I think that the face that ESC are putting themselves down this much after a loss is one of the things that's making them such a great team. They play with such a great emotional engagement and almost gets destroyed after losing, but they are always coming back stronger. Just look at the time in CS 1.6 when they were without a sponsor after showing poor results. They never even considered of being like the other teams that either retired or started to switching players - they just kept on going and became even stronger in the end, and out shined the SK "dreamteam" in 2011. I have a great respect for ESC and TaZ and I really hope and think that they won't give up and will reach the top in a near future, good luck!
2013-02-25 03:22
That's why I'm most attached to them and it's something that goes beyond being of Polish descent. I like teams that play with passion, the antithesis of which is basically the cold, cocky confidence of NiP (or at least get_right).
2013-02-25 03:45
same here
2013-02-25 03:51
I think licho meant "passion as a team". Of course GTR got a lot of passion for CS, but his teams never showed such an impressive team spirit like the golden five did.
2013-02-25 20:53
gtr plays with passion too. did you forget like fx make him cry? :D one of the best moments in cs history for me atleast

2013-02-25 10:32
I think ppl should stop whining about NIP dominance... It happened, they where the first to which to the game, and they are top-form. Only ones able to change this dominance is other pro-teams like ESC - you want an interesting scene? - work for it!

Its not nips fault that they are OP. Everyone else has to step it up, so we dont have 16-1 score in a final for example.......
2013-02-25 11:22
China Specster
Nobody said it was NiPs fault, you have to watch the interview again or clear your mind, because when u hear NiP and destroy, you are becaming nervous and the brain works at 50%.
2013-02-25 11:41
LOL niceone.
2013-02-25 11:46
He is right actually man, Taz said that Nip domination has to be cut, but he is not blaming them for this situation lol
2013-02-25 14:43
Taz said a lot that they had to work harder to beat nips. He didn't blame them. Surely, turn on your brain.

I love his interviews, very passionate! Looks like they all want to beat NiP, which I think will be epic when it happens, so lets wait!

bullshit, ofc when nip win a lot of tournaments and would have no motivation, they will be easy to beat.
2013-02-25 14:00
why would u love motivation when u winning
2013-02-25 14:18
2013-02-25 15:34
cause its boring, everything becomes boring after some time, even winning :D u dont feel any andrenaline, nervous, or w/e when u know that u will win everything

btw, event's demos woukld be very much appreciated...

top3, top3 its cool :-D
2013-02-25 14:55
really hope either NaVi or ESC gets to be the first to beat NiP at LAN.
2013-02-25 15:00
aww. Tazzy wazzy
2013-02-25 15:42
I really like TaZ hes such an humble person, by far my favorite player. But i have to disagree with him saying NiP is killing the game. The other teams beeing totally uncapable of beating NiP is "killing" the game, not NiP for beeing to good for their competition.
2013-02-25 16:16
By killing the game he means, not that the sponsors and events will pull out from GO but that teams are starting to loose motivation because of their winning streak.
2013-02-25 16:56
Actually the teams should be even more motivated with NiP's dominance. Its always more motivating to aim to beat the dominant team imo. For the viewer point of view i mean.. all it matters to me at least is to watch some really good games, and NiP winning everything doesnt change that much since the games are becoming more and more challenging and the skill-level is rising alot.
2013-02-25 18:00
Everything you speak is da troof. 100% agree.
2013-02-25 21:58
He is talking from a viewer's perspective that it is boring when there's no competition for the top spot.
2013-02-25 17:02
China Specster
Bulgarian guy said it all. You took it wrong, it's killing the game from viewers point. Yesterday I nearly cut my veins.
2013-02-25 17:23
Seems like a great guy. Honest about their flaws & mistakes, and shows that even though they fail, they will carry on to try end NiP's streak. Dedication TaZ, you'll play better at CPH for sure!
2013-02-25 16:28
I have a man crush on this guy. Such a legend.
2013-02-25 16:47
sooo gaaaay xD
2013-02-25 20:05
2013-02-26 15:43
And koreans are killing SC2, fairplay.
2013-02-25 17:33
Exactly hjapps, Koreans did destroy the SC2 scene for viewers, atleast they did for me. I loved watching sc2 even watched the GOMTV matches which is mostly korean only, but watching SC2 now is so predicteble its no longer fun. You look at the brackets/groups at the start of a tournament en only look for Korean players, then u go up the bracket and so u can see where other players will find their downfall since they wont beat the Korean players. With the final ending up in Korean player 1 vs korean player 2. But atleast there is competition between the Koreans. The same thing now applies to CS:GO, at the start of the tournament u look at NIP, u look trough the bracket and already know where your favorite team will have to face nip. Since u also know they will lose the game there is no reason beeing excited, get your hopes up or even pray for a upset. This makes CSGO predictible and boring. Is this NIP's fault? Offcourse not noone want to see them play worse or start throwing games, but their dominant position is not good for a community that is trying to climb back into E-sports as a Top Teer game. Right now the entire First Person Shooter scene is loosing more and more ground comparing it to games like LoL, SC2, or even Dota2. With a Million dollar tournament coming up for COD, new titles like shootmania, the CS scene cant have a boring competition, because the competitive scene is the only unique selling point CS has in the FPS scene.
2013-02-25 18:44
many consider him as a troll (?) but this guy is honest and what or what but he is one of the best csgo players out there

best quote "Who cares,NiP is going to win"-TaZ
2013-02-25 19:21
Nice interview as always, I think that this tournament actually wasn't that bad as the matches were kinda close and with more hours they can secure the victories OR neo could start being neo and then all problems solved. Honestly though i don't think neo will reach the 1.6 level he had, imo what made neo so good in 1.6 was his movement and in GO that just dosn't play a role.
2013-02-25 19:36
TaZ is a honest and very emotional guy. Got passion for this game and always wants the best for his team. Big respect to him and good luck in the future. You guys can do serious damage to every team out there!
