NiP deny VG with two 16-14 wins

Ninjas in Pyjamas have continued their dominance over VeryGames after the closest series the teams had yet. This time the Swedes won two very close maps (16-14 on de_nuke_se & 16-14 on de_mirage_go) to move on to the grand final of ESEA Season 13 Global Finals.

The upper bracket final of ESEA Invite Season 13 Global Finals saw NiP and VeryGames meet once again. The Ninjas had won 13 consecutive maps against VG and they were looking to put that number up to 15. The French-Belgian squad got as close as ever last weekend at taking their first map, but they lost de_dust2_se 14-16 in the semi-final of RaidCall EMS One Spring 2013.

VeryGames were able to ban only two maps as the lower seed, but they got to pick the first one which would be played. They opted for de_nuke_se and a CT side start, which saw them go up 4-0 after Nathan "NBK" Schmitt's impressive 3-kill action in the lower bombsite in the 3rd round.

Schmitt once again score 3 amazing headshots while guarding the lower bombsite in the fifth round, but his teammates were unable to convert a 2-on-2, so NiP got on the scoreboard 4-1.

But Schmitt once again opened the next round with two M4A4 headshots which propelled VG to reset NiP's economy and go up 6-1, and him standing on a 16:1 score.

VeryGames NBK in focus

NBK was spectacular in the first half of de_nuke_se

VG kept up stopping the Swedes, with Schmitt adding another 3 kill round (having 20:2 score at this point) for 9-1 and Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom scored 4 incredibly quick headshots for 10-1.

However, Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg scored 3 kills in the next round during an overwhelming upper attack which sparked NiP's minor comeback. Robin "Fifflaren" Johansson added his own 3-kill action for 10-4 before VG took the last round of the half.

Johansson stepped up again in the following pistol round scoring another three kills in a 2-on-3 situation to deny VeryGames a safe second half start. The Swedes also shut down the third round buy from VG and after an eco they were already on the way to another one of their famous comebacks, 11-8.

The Frenchmen seemed to finally break NiP by winning the next two rounds for 13-8, but despite Schmitt getting two entry kills in round 22, the Swedes turned it around and made the score 13-9.

GeT_RiGhT looking at the scoreboard

GeT_RiGhT stepped up in the final rounds of first map

Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund finally starting winning his duels outside and NiP had slowly but surely reduced the deficit completely, and eventually got into the lead 14-13.

Alesund stepped up the most in the 28th round, scoring three kills from above ladder to stop an upper attack, putting the Swedes onto match point. VG seemed to have no solution, but they executed the same attack, this time successfully to get the match into the last round of regular play.

Facing defeat at 14-15, the Frenchmen sent two men outside and down to the lower bombsite, which produced them an advantage after a couple of kills by Benrlitom. But as they always do, they once again dropped a favorable situation against NiP, allowing Alesund with 1hp and Richard "Xizt" Landström to win a 2-on-3 situation for a 16-14 win.

friberg and fifflaren from NiP watching the All Stars game from the first row of seats

Fifflaren had 24 kills on nuke, friberg 25 on mirage

NiP's pick de_mirage_go was the second map and the Swedes expectedly decided to start on the Counter-terrorist side.

VeryGames took the first pistol round, but faced major troubles after playing with four pistols in the second round, which came down to Benrlitom's 1vs1 clutch. NiP saw that as a sigh that it is time for an early famas buy, but Benrlitom sent them flying with 3 headshots from apartments, putting VG up 4-0 after another save.

The next buy round came down to the wire, but Lindberg AWPed down two opponents in a 2-on-2 situation while protecting his teammate who defused the C4, clinching their first round of the map, 4-1.

Soon enough, the lead changed as the Swedes went up 5-4, but VG continued stubbornly attacking the A bombsite and it somehow worked for them as the lead changed again, this time 7-5 for the French.

NiP then tied the score at 7 apiece, but Kevin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans once again sent his team to attack the A bombsite despite being poorly armed, and they pulled off the victory for an 8-7 advantage at the half.

Ninjas also considered the bigger bombsite as a suitable battle ground for the following pistol round, and they even the score once again at 8-8. After two save rounds, VG came out with the expensive weapons and Schmitt exploded again, getting four kills in the first buy round for 10-9.

VeryGames tied the score at 10-10 after another good defense and then went into their own new lead after NiP's eco. But the teams continued to swap rounds, as the Swedes went back up 12-11 before the French won a eco to tie it back to 12-12.

Ex6TenZ playing versus Dynamic

Ex6TenZ' overaggressive CT calls perhaps cost VG the match.

Droolans then opted for an aggressive stack with the auto-sniper, taking out two opponents, but Adam "friberg" Friberg retaliated with his own couple of kills right away and NiP converted that round to make it 13-12. However, VG had saved up enough money due to winning with pistols the round before, so they were able to buy and even the score at 13-13 again.

The Swedish team was forced to eco and relinquish the following round, so VeryGames got as close as ever to winning by being up 14-13. But their over-aggressiveness in the crucial 28th round, as Schmitt and Droolans tried to attack their opponents early on, cost them the map. NiP evened the score for the 9th time in the map at 14-14, and then finally put the match to bed with VG being on semi-buys in both of the last rounds, winning 16-14 for the third map in a row against the French team.

Ninjas in Pyjames have secured a spot in the grand final of ESEA Invite Season 13 Global Finals where they will need to win one best-of-three series, while their opponents will need two best-of-three series. The grand final will take place on Sunday at 19:00, while VeryGames will meet the winner of ESC vs. Quantic two hours earlier in the consolidation final.

Nice games, nice to see VG improving every time I see them play, getting closer and closer to NiP.

Right, because all it takes to kill guys like forest and get_right is pure aim. Killing three, four guys in one round requires no game sense. I'm starting to understand your logic.

they are like VP before they beat NiP now. Next matches they play will be very close and VG will break them on a map
2013-04-21 02:38
why ex6 force buy when its 14-14?? go eco lose and then buy prop and can play to overtime but no he says to spend money on pistols with kev
2013-04-21 02:38
I agree, I was literally shaking my head after this one... It's not like it was a decent force buy at all on top of that... If VG wants to finally take a map from NiP, they really need to work on their bomb site holds... How many times they lost situations where they should have the positioning advantage ? That's frustrating to watch.

If ESEA keeps the same system as in the previous editions, NiP needs to win 1 bo3 against the other finalist, while the other team would need 2

considering the looser bracket is bo3, is the final in bo5? that would be sad to end this lan on only one map if NiP wins again the first map.

If I know ESEA right it's two bo3-matches. if NiP wins the first bo3, they win. VG(or whoever meets them in the final) has to win both bo3-matches.
2013-04-21 02:44
The team from the lower bracket needs to win 2 Bo3s, NiP will need one Bo3
2013-04-21 02:45
So possibly 6 maps? Damn oO
2013-04-21 02:55
Final tomorrow or tonight?
2013-04-21 02:57
no more matches tonight, consolidation and grand final tomorrow
2013-04-21 03:09
In the final the team coming from the lower bracket has to win 2 bo3 series. NIP will have to win 1 bo3.
2013-04-21 02:45
It's like this in most tournaments and it's such an anticlimax. They should really play BO5s in the finals. Saddens me that not many organizers sees it from a spectators point of view.

Vg should realise that Individual skill makes a difference They need to step up, just like NBK did.
2013-04-21 06:58
f0rest is always stepping up his game when the opposition is giving his team a hard time. The closer the game is, the better his stats are, just look at the few last matches. It's like this guy has no skill cap, he is truly made for cs.
2013-04-21 07:27
I disagree, I think he's the kind of player that goes on rampage only if his opponents give him enough room. But his consistency is such that he's still at his best on close games. His best weapon is not his A-game, it's the fact that he can bring his A-game almost all the time. Your comment made me think about this a lot, so I made some calculus on his K/D ratio for both close games (16-11 or closer) and easy games (the rest). His average K/D ratio on close games is about 1.32 for more than 30 maps. His average K/D ratio on easy games is about 2.16 for more than 100 maps. I think this data gives a hint as to when he's at his best. We could argue that we should take the 16-10 as close games, but it would not change the results much. And if you remember his incredible 2 maps against fnatic where he scored 65 frags altogether, it was 2 easy maps as well.

loluworkhardonthis! anyway f0rest is always good, you are right pointing to his consistency. last bad match was probably in 2008 or 7, and that is just f0rest bad, not regular player bad
2013-04-21 11:47
f0rest is an amazing player, but your facts are not straight. f0rest was pretty unstable in the end of 1.6 and also in GO he have had some really terrible games, like against ESC on inferno for like 1 month ago. He had 6-23 or something like that ;p They would have lost that match if it wasn't for friberg and get_right stepping up like bosses. I don't say that f0rest is bad or something. When he is playing his a-game, there is almost no one who can beat him then :) Just wanted to point out that your facts weren't straight ;) /Big fan of f0rest for a long time and as well GeT_RiGhT :D This duo is the best!

really? totally missed out on that ESC performance, which tourney? thought I at least read up on all the stories/stats of matches I could not watch live :P apparently I missed a few!
2013-04-21 21:49
While you're right about consistency, I wouldn't look at close and easy games like that. It is quite possible (and even likely) that some of those games are easy for NiP _because_ he plays so well in them (fnatic match being a solid example). If a player is that much on fire the score can't really be close. It also depends on the opponent and on how the rest of his team is playing. A better way to look at it is how he played compared to his teammates in close games and how in the easier games. And also compared to other players in close games (maybe that 1.32 K/D ratio is the best or one of the best of all players). Of course there's more to it (like checking actual close rounds of close matches, taking stage of the tournament into consideration and more), but just comparing his stats from one and the other is pointless, you will not find a player with a better ratio in close games than in easy games, that's simply how CS works.
2013-04-21 12:45
not just cs, every sport i think, how could he have a lower ratio in your so called "Easy games" than the hard ones=]] it's just ilogic
2013-04-21 13:04
I'm aware that it's natural to have better ratios on easy games, but the difference between his two averages is so huge that I think it represents well how people have to step up straight away if they don't want to see him going nuts. I know there are a lot more stats to take into consideration, but I don't have the time to do them honestly. I just did this bit to see if my intuition was right, and I still think it is, but I'd be glad if you happen to exploit his stats to convince me otherwise.
2013-04-21 19:58
The difference isn't huge at all though, that's the point. Check out the stats from close games from any other player, you'll hardly find anyone better. His ratio in both is huge, that's why it seems like that to you and NiP simply wins a lot of easy games and he plays well all the time. None of that makes him any worse player in close games. I don't have time right now to do the calculations for other players, but it should be pretty intuitive that there couldn't even be 2 players in the world with better stats than him in close games seeing as only a handful of them even have a 1.32 K/D ratio when you include the easy games for them as well.

1) After a 10-1 on nuke we could see how overconfident VG got (on the cam + some stupid pushing as CT). instead of keeping focus they thought they will destroy nip 2) smithz was awful in this game except for maybe 2 rounds. he was spraying nonstop and didnt do any dmg. so yeah, stop spraying and you have a nice win against nip

lolcow is right. with that being said, i was surprised how well fifflaren was doing yesterday. he's usually single-handedly letting the opposing team in the game because he's such a hole in NiP's lineup.

Please why are these VG noobs still playing tournes, they obv cant win vs NiP or anybody. GG

still better than fiflaren.

What do you mean? They are obviously bad, I still find it weird that those low values of viewers watch CS:GO. It's been NiP vs bots so far and no challenge. I miss the time when CS was about trying everything, having tied games, having 15/15. Having 6 x overtimes in finla. I miss those 1 min silencre rounds to avoid mistakes due to 1 round so important. I miss all those popflashes and making sure enemy is flashed before entryfragger goes in! I miss pro players spending hours only to learn new pop flashes to get those new peeks and new meta strats!

did you watch the starseries final? 15-19, 14-16 for vp versus nip.
2013-04-21 15:48
Fucking nab really, NiP haven't done anything new for while or anything tactical. They don't have to, they are not even trying and they are still winning
