LDLC.com to skip ESEA finals

LDLC.com have announced that they will not be taking part in ESEA 14's global finals next month.

ESEA officials have been given a fresh headache after LDLC confirmed that they have withdrawn from this season's global finals, citing the high price of airline tickets during the summer as the reason for the move.

This is now the second team to have officially pulled out of the LAN finals, after VeryGames, who finished second in the regular season, also declined to attend the event.

LDLC.com pull out of ESEA finals

With Virtus.pro in shambles, Ninjas in Pyjamas now seem to be the sole European team willing to cover the costs of travelling to the United States.

"We are really sad that we will not be able to attend the ESEA finals in Dallas," a team statement read.

"The fact that this tournament is held in the summer and shortly after the regular season makes this an extremely expensive and unnafordable move.

"Besides missing out on a great tournament, we were also looking forward to making the trip across the Atlantic Ocean.

"This season was a little bit disappointing, with a lot of forfeits towards the end of the tournament, but I have been following ESEA for many years and I believe in them and know that they will find the solutions to make sure that next season will be played on a high level.

"We would like to offer our sincere apologies to our fans and to ESEA."

ESEA has so far stayed silent on how they plan to solve this problem, with only three weeks left for the tournament to begin. The global finals will take place from August 16th through 18th at the Double Tree Hilton, in Dallas, with $39,500 up for grabs in the CS:GO competition.

Can't you think this out by yourself? Its not about the team as a whole traveling, every single player needs a ticket so it doesn't make a difference whether they travel with another team in the plane or not still VG and LDLC have to buy a ticket for each of their players which will be exceeding $12000 from what i read earlier.

Your scene is bad, there's no logical explanation why one of the biggest cs:go purses should be located in US when top 10 teams are european and most viewers comes from europe aswell. Hold the tournament in Germany and lets see if 4 US teams gonna come over to lose miserably. NiP gonna win this and it will be worth it for them, if lets say VG would come 2nd they would juse lose money. Not to mention 3rd/4th placed european team aswell.

2013-07-24 06:32
not your fault , but ESEAs fault , what a catastrophe of a date, anybody except esea seem to know plane ticket increase 50% price when its vacation/holidays season. mindboggling decision. nobody cares about a tournament only nip compete in, its a fail already, and they should fire whoever is managing director. a huge loss of relevance and wiever interest. sad
2013-07-24 06:31
The ticket price is high in the summer so it's partly your fault...
2013-07-24 07:59
I bet they can afford it, its just not worth it. If you end up 2nd or third its pretty much a waste of money. Also keep in mind that European organizations attends 300% more events than the NA ones. Going to ESEA would basically mean that they would have to skip 3 other tournaments just due to the high price on plane tickets

I do know what is like because I've had to find funding for my female team to go to ESWC paris. This is when ESWC is was Always during the summer around 4th of july. why? because I suggested a highly reasonable alternative to not attending the lan? I just bought a round trip plane ticket from canada to the middle east for $1400. why can't they do the same from europe to usa?
2013-07-24 15:17

Because you say they should invest in their cs careers, by getting a job. A lot of the players are students and probably have jobs on the side, just to make a living. Taking out $1400 out, just for plain tickets is a big investment. You sound like the players just have that kind of cash ready. I am a student and I have a job on the side. There is no way I would spend that kind of money, without careful planning.

They should either split the finals or plan their events more carefully next time.
2013-07-24 07:17
They should rent a motherfucking ESEA boat to be able for every team to attend the finals, the boat would go to new york to take NA players, then to an European harbor to take European players. Yup. They just don't show up. This is however an online league with a lan finals you have to attend.
2013-07-24 14:06
No, this is completely different. European LANs with American teams are invite, not qualified through a league. The American teams decide to go based on whether they can afford to or not, and generally EU lans are not in peak airfare times. The other factor is that European LANs have the best teams already, there is no need for any American teams to attend, where as for this event, without any European teams, it looks very poor.
