Volcano's de_train_ve updated

Salvatore "Volcano" Garozzo has released an updated version of his latest creation de_train_ve, addressing some of the bugs and issues in the map.

Most notable change are the new models of trains that Garozzo hired Lenz "penE" Monath to create for the map. They've also changed the textures that received criticism.

The map now ships with four different colored train models, in a move to improve the map aesthetically. The lenghts of a few trains were also changed. Watch ESEA News' video play to find out how it looks.

Other changes include the height of trains being adjusted, bomb train being changed to a flatbed and shortening the outside bombtrain to give terrorists more cover when planting, among other things.

Garozzo has once again written a lengthy post on his Tumblr regarding the update. He has also added a couple of pictures from the map in there. You can download the map from Steam's workshop.

- CHANGELOG -

Map Wide

• Implemented custom train models
• Increased the height of all trains
• Removed short ladders from sides of bomb trains
• Added additional unobtrusive detailing
• Added four different colored train variations to both improve aesthetics and allow players to more accurately communicate locations

A Bombsite

• Replaced “4 lane” train on the CT-side with a “flatbed” train. Player can no longer see clearly over smokes.
• Decreased length of bomb train so a bomb planter is less exposed to CT-mid (“Z”) and CT spawn ramp
• Increased height of both e-boxes to allow player to use e-box when jumping from train-to-train
• Increased length of ladder train to allow player in CT-tower to jump to the train
• Moved “6 lane” train on the T-side closer to T-middle to allow T’s easier access outside and decrease sight lines from CT-mid (“Z”) and CT-tower.

B Bombsite

• Increased length of train near upper ramp to allow player mode latitude to strafe between upper ramp and parallel train
• Increased length of pop-dog train to create a greater distance between the CT side of pop-dog and the T’s closest bomb plant zone
• Moved flatbed closer to the upper ramp ladder, to allow more variation in T and CT positioning
• Re-added railing by “Z” connector train to allow player to jump from the railing to the top of the train

Bug Fixes

• Fixed bomb disappearing when planted on train tracks
• Fixed bug where bomb could get stuck in T-spawn behind the sandbags
• Fixed bug in brown hall where player could be boosted above the lower ramp

It's currently unknown if leagues plan to start using de_train_ve over de_train_se or de_train, which was also recently updated with various changes.

No map is balanced. They always go for one side or another. So... Yeah it could be a little more balanced but I think volcano did again a amazing job with the map. Looking forward for Brute's Tuscan and probably a forge, if someone made it. There is a good one on workshop, but it need's is tweaks.

I normally hate train (both in 1.6 and especially CSGO) but this looks so clean and awesome. Looks like a new favorite map. Tournaments, please bring this in!

I've heard plenty of complaints about it. Map was way too ugly and the textures were outdated. Its the same reason why volcano and fmpone remade cache, it looked like crap. People are just too used to mirage for it to change now but if someone was to update the texture I'm pretty sure that map would take over competitive play

looks nice, now its up to ESEA (who presented this video) to implement this map on ESEA pugs! i think ESEA is being really lazy and is to blame aswell. Valve updated dd2 (better imo) and ESEA is still using old D2. ESEA also presented an updated version of cache, and they are still using the old one... i start asking myself why would ESEA show us video's of maps which they obviously find superior and meanwhile they still hang on to older versions!! ESEA is still using the old train (before the valve update), old train is shit!!!!

Definitely an improvement to the previous version. I like the changes. Also I think the changes compared to 1.6/CSS (bomb-train on 5, pop-dog more open, train 6 closer to T-mid for more cover) will help to make the map more balanced. But for god's sake: remove the stupid railing on the side of lane 3 again (in the first version of tran_ve it was gone), it only helps the CTs to retake B (+ it's in the T's shooting line) and the map is already CT sided enough (also there should be reward from talking the longer way and rotate over CT base instead of CT, this reward is not being exposured and being able to climb train 3 straight away). Also I would think about removing the second e-box (the CT one), because the CTs have already enough cover and the map needs to become more T-friendly. All in all: This map >>>> the current official de_train I hope leagues and tournaments will pick it up soon.

I just played the first mix on it. Awesome map! Beside the things I already mentioned I found two things I would change. They have nothing to do with the gameplay, but with the aesthetic: 1. The wires above the trains (for example above train 5). Every time you jump on the train you have these damn wires in the face. IMO that looks like a glitch and it already annoyed me on other de_train-versions. It's easy to solve: Just move them to the side (so they aren't straight above the trains). 2. Some trains (but not all) look a bit to short (for example the one on lane 5). Since they got taller they also need to become slightly longer. Gameplay-wise it's okay how it is now, but the trains look kind of weird if they are that short. I would make them slightly longer (but not that it affects the gameplay in a bad way). And: Good job on the colours. Looks great.

The red ladders on the trains look too unrealistic to me... Should be the black 'staple' looking ladders that would actually be on trains like that that you see in CSGO like on the bin in T spawn on nuke

Although it's more than too late now, just out of interest, why did "we" ever even deviate from the classic maps' original layout they had in 1.6's competitive era? All graphical improvements aside, the classic maps have been in the competitive circle for ages and I have never once heard a single argument as to why Valve changed them the way they did. Or why the competitive community accepted the new versions for that matter. It seems as if most of the layout and gameplay-relevant changes to the classic maps have been made in an attempt to tweak the CT/T balance. Which is proof of how Valve have (admittedly like a big chunk of the active player base) not understood the fundamentals of what plays a role in making a map competitively viable. Oldschool players are often confronted with the argument that they hold on to old times for old times' sake - but looking at the deviation from the original map layout, one could say Valve is changing things for change's sake. Again, I understand why visual improvements had to happen, but has there ever been a statement made by Valve as to why they changed the layout and the gameplay elements of the classic maps? And why are we now accepting these deviations when we create our own maps for competitive use? Because we hope that will make it more likely for Valve to include them officially? Are we not equally as blind hungry for new stuff, as we are longing for old stuff? There is no perfect map, and I think everyone enjoyed how the original versions of the classic maps functioned gameplay-wise. Why do we waste our energy and efforts to try and change those maps, instead of just porting the originals with optical modernisations and use our creative energy to design and create new maps? dust2 and mirage_ce are good examples of how maps can be ported visually while staying more or less true to the classic layout (although there a number of things that could be tweaked to more accurately emulate the way these two maps used to function competitively).

this map is pretty good but the truth is de_train_te is almost flawless. Volcano's 8.5/10 de_train_te 9.5/10 There are still some issues with Volcano's in my opinion, train wheels are way to big and large in comparison to train's length. You can't get on flat trains unless you do it at the ends. I really didn't like that much that flat train replace in the third lane in outter bombsite. Trains need to be a little bit higher(check train_te for this) and some of them longer. Volcano should remove that ceiling in T-heaven.
