VeryGames defeat NiP 2-0

For the first time ever on LAN, VeryGames have defeated NiP with a 2-0 score (16-14 on de_inferno_se, 16-6 on de_mirage_ce) in SLTV StarSeries VII upper-semi-final.

After a great opening match between Astana Dragons and fnatic earlier today, NiP and VeryGames met in the second upper bracket semi-final of SLTV StarSeries VII.

Starting on their map selection de_inferno_se, NiP opened up well on the CT side with three kills from Robin "Fifflaren" Johansson.

VeryGames were about to lose the first buy round too, but Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom and Richard "shox" Papillon clinched a 2-on-4 situation which saw Benrlitom win a 1-on-1 against Johansson.

NBK's 6 entry kills on de_inferno_se were crucial

The Swede made up for it right away though, taking out 4 opponents in the next round and resetting VG's economy.

NiP seemed stronger in the early rounds, which was only backed up by an amazing spray quad-kill by Richard "Xizt" Landström in a 3-on-5 situation for 6-2.

Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg's patient 1vs1 against Benrlitom in the B bombsite extended the lead to 7-2, and before long the Swedes were flying high with a 10-2 lead.

Nathan "NBK" Schmitt then stepped up in the next couple of rounds, getting two triple kill actions before Benrlitom added another in the last round, which put the score at 10-5.

Despite the fresh breath by the French, NiP set them back at the beginning of the second half, winning another pistol and first buy for a 14-5 lead.

However, the French had saved three rifles from the previous round, and Schmitt once again scored three kills to get VG back in the game.

Richard "shox" Papillon had an excellent clutch in a 2-on-4 situation two rounds later in the B bombsite, including winning a very important 1vs2 to put the score at 14-8.

VeryGames changed gears and attacked NiP in the round after that, which caught the Swedes off guard, and so did Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux's AWPing in the next few rounds.

ScreaM topped the scoreboard with 52 kills total

When the score stood at 14-12, Benrlitom denied entry into the B bombsite with three entry kills, and the French-Belgian squad stopped a promising B-split a round later to equalize the score at 14-14.

With NiP lost for solutions at this point, VG closed them off in the last two rounds as well, to complete an amazing 11-round comeback and get the 1-0 lead in this series.

Moving on to their map pick de_mirage_ce, Kévin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans' squad dropped another pistol round and fell back 0-4 as CTs.

During a save in the fifth round, Benrlitom's amazing aim once again proved crucial as he scored three P250 kills in the A bombsite to catch the Swedes on the wrong foot and make the score 4-1.

Even though NiP retaliated right away, that sparked VG's great play and they went on to lock down both bomsites and win the half 9-6.

Ex6TenZ led his team to their first LAN victory over NiP

They continued well and finally won a pistol round, which set them up for a solid lead. After NiP's third round surprise buy didn't work, they saved three rifles and went into an all-important 19th round with a lot at stake.

However, Benrlitom was just too much to take this evening, and he won a 1-on-1 against Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund to put his team up 13-6 and force NiP to eco.

The last two chances also fell through, as Dubourdeaux first opened up with 3 AWP kills, and then Benrlitom sealed the deal with 4 kills for 16-6.

Believe it or not, after movements update, nip are very bad. if u pay attention, u will see that most of vg kills are about holding angels, nip used to peek corners with 2-3 players and get easy kills before update, but after that update, they peek corners very slow and are easy kills for vg players.

You know what they say: It is hard to reach the top but it is even harder to remain there. Now this counts especially if it is over a prolonged period of long time. Look at any sports team in history, people lose the "fire" if they do not receive a challenge over for a long time. In contrast to people trying to reach #1 who will put in 100% effort to reach the absolute top, in this case VG. I draw this conclusion by looking at NiP's boot camp stream, in all fairness the practice matches they played were not that serious at all. They got destroyed by LGB(T side) on dust2 and they hardly seemed to care. Also f0rest seems to be playing surf more then anything else. Just to be clear I'm not trying to imply they lost because of f0rest playing surf. Now I do not know how VG practice but listening to the interview Semmler did with NBK it sounded they have a pretty solid practice schedule. Other teams are catching up and NiP will need to refuel the fire within if they want to seriously compete with these teams who are 100% motivated. Also I can see the lack of a real strong AWP player being a big issue for them now other teams caught up. Look how Delpan took apart VG, he won them multiple rounds by getting early picks or going ham with the big green. For example I have seen f0rest AWP'ing. This is not a solution for the lack of a proper AWP'er. I call it a bad tactic if you are taking the best rifle player in the world (PS. do not read AIM'er ScreaM fanboys) and letting him AWP. Sure he is amazing with AWP but it's not worth it.
2013-10-11 00:47
11 replies
Agree.. NiP are making a top 5 rifler in the world use the Awp because Fifflaren is unable to make use of it. This is absolutely retarded, and it's about time NiP started being punished for it. They also spend a lot of their practice time petting their dogs and cracking jokes while get_right is the only one who takes their practice seriously.
2013-10-11 00:51

In contrast to people trying to reach #1 who will put in 100% effort to reach the absolute top, in this case VG. Those who are in #1 SHOULD put 100% effort to stay on top too... thats the point

Yeah I'm making the analogy that people on top lose the "fire" to motivate themselves for 100%, in this case NiP. I haven't seen them practice 100% as in really really focused with a goal in mind of winning Dreamhack Winter. Maybe they aren't taking it too seriously yet and will after this defeat, perhaps they needed this 'wake up' call. I believe they can perform a lot better then they showed us tonight. They lost practically every single gun round.

"They lost practically every single gun round." Well you don't win 20 rounds (so 10 rounds per map in average) with only eco, anti-eco and pistol rounds. Especially if you're up 14-5 on one map. They have won many gun rounds, maybe only one or two on mirage though.
2013-10-11 04:33

Mirage, they won only a few gun rounds the whole game. Inferno, I don't think they won a single gun round second half (might be wrong)..
2013-10-11 04:55

But that's far from "losing practically every single gun round" anyways.
2013-10-11 05:18

Indeed, but if you think of it in quadrants of halves on the 2 maps, they only won significant gun rounds in the first half of the first map and then really tapered off.
2013-10-11 05:51

I wouldn't say that. They were leading 14-5, after a 10-5 at halftime. Which means they won the first (and maybe the second, if VG forced the buy, don't remember) gun round, which is always key to gain the economic momentum. Same on mirage, they were leading 4-0, again winning the first gun round. Then they won two more points in first half, at least one of them was a gun round (the last round of the half was one, and they won it). Over all I think their main weakness wasn't specifically on gun rounds. Neither on pistol rounds, given that they won 3 out of 4. I rather think that being unable to win the last two rounds on Inferno and seeing them come back and lose straight away without having an OT opportunity was critical for them. Usually it's NiP who make this kind of comebacks, they are not so used to experience them. Then again, leading 4-0 and losing the half 9-6 must have bring back memories from the last map. Not a good mindset to start the second half if you ask me. Finally, VG were obviously more solid than them aim wise, which is usually NiP's main asset. Overall it's a great victory for VG, I hope they can finally win a tournament having beaten NiP, just to shut up those children claiming they don't deserve a title if they don't defeat NiP in the process... But this is very promising for ESWC and DHW. Can't wait.

everybody hating on fifflaren hahha i love it, NiP goes on a winning streak they blame fiff(sometimes its friberg) then they start winning again and everyone shuts up, he may not be the best player but NiP has one thing A LOT of team dont, chemistry. they've all been together for so long you dont just ruin that for skill, dragons did that and it hasnt worked out so well for them.

No one really stood out in the games imo. But friberg had a really bad day, especially in the first half on inferno. However the day seemed to worsen for all of NiP in the following rounds... About Fifflaren I'd say that he had a good start on inferno, but didn't keep it up. He had something like 9:2 in round 4/5 and then 11:8 or something at the end... Overall I think that forest and get right (and friberg) severely under performed, but also NiP as a team completely lost their composure in the second half of inferno. VG played extremely passive and NiP couldn't find a way to break that. More often than not did they lose their first contacts and ended up in 3 vs 5 situations. Also their fakes were really easy to spot as well...
2013-10-11 10:46
1 reply
I dont think VG played passive. They mixed it up a lot. A few rounds they would play a very tight passive set up, but for the most part they did what they did best in CS:S. Took map control. They kept taking banana from NiP with 3 man pushes, or smokes and boxing them in while at the same time would set up a 3/4 man cross fire on A. Was impossible for NiP to find a gap in the defence.
