markeloff: "NiP is a better matchup"
Yegor "markeloff" Markelov talks to us about the preparation, adapting to a new player, as well as the competition at the event, before their group starts in the afternoon.
Astana Dragons are going to the tournament with a recent change in the roster, as Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev was replaced by Emil "kucher" Akhundov only three weeks ago.
In the interview, Markelov touches on the topics of how much they had to adapt to the change of a player, Astana Dragons' preparation, the lack of him taking the AWP and also the competition in the tournament.
How has your preparation for DreamHack Winter 2013 been? How beneficial has bootcamping together for such an extended amount of time been for your team?
It was pretty fine. We had about 7 days after Techlabs finals to finish our preparation for dhw. Mostly we were focused on pistol rounds and worked hard on our weak parts. We added and fixed a lot in our game.
How has adapting your team to Emil "kucher" Akhundov and his playing style worked out so far? Have you changed how you play a lot or are you simply fitting him in Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev's old roles?
We adapted instantly and didn't change a lot. Just couple of spots.
Should we expect Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov to do better as a result of getting to own up his own role now that Sukhariev, who used to play similarly, is no longer on the team?
I'm not sure there was a pressure on Dosia or he felt discomfort. He always played like he wanted to and Misha still doing it perfectly.
It seems that NiP is a better match-up for you than VeryGames based on your past results. Do you agree, and why do you think that is/isn't the case? Is it playing style related or are VeryGames simply so much better right now?
It's true. Don't know why. It was always so. Maybe vg are just more tactical then nip and it's hard to read em. Not sure.
Why has Yegor "markeloff" Markelov not been AWPing nearly as much as he used to? Is that a decision made by him on an individual level, or something the team decided together? Will Akhundov be the primary AWPer over Markelov from now on?
I will always buy an awp when my team needs it. it's not that useful like it was in 1.6 cuz of smoke grenades and flash bangs. DAT smokes... I'm sure u will see me and kucher with that gun. It depends on the map.
Upon changing players Kirill "ANGE1" Karasiow stated you don't have the luxury of waiting a long time to win, as Na`Vi did. Does this mean you're under pressure to do well at DreamHack this week? What if you disappoint?
We simply not thinking about pressure or possibility of losing and stuff. We came here to show our best and fight till the end. Thoughts like that always distract.
Have you prepared specifically for any of your main competition (e.g. SK and Cph Wolves in your group, or VeryGames and NiP) or are you simply focusing on your own game?
We always do so, I mean playing our own game. Dragons always fails trying to anti-strat anyone))) But ofc Angel watched VODs, demos of all the teams and know what to expect.
Last word is yours, feel free to add anything we may have missed, thank fans or sponsors etc.
Thanks for an interview. Cheers to all the fans, my friends and family! Support us tomorrow! From Dragons with love;)
Group D with Astana Dragons, Copenhagen Wolves, SK Gaming and Reason Gaming, who have just qualified by defeating Nostalgie in the semi-finals of the BYOC qualifier, is scheduled to start at 14:30.
