NiP over VG to DHW final
Ninjas in Pyjamas are the first finalists of the Dreamhack Winter 2013 after winning over Team VeryGames with 2-1 overall (16-13 de_dust2, 6-16 de_inferno and 16-5 de_nuke).
The defending champions entered the match determined to claim the revenge for the recent loss by their biggest rivals since the launch of the game.
Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg managed to get the upper edge in the first round, something that his team was lacking in the quarter finals against LGB eSports. But this time around, he eliminated three opponents to bring the round on board.
NiP won the remaining rounds but soon enough VeryGames started to pick off a few lovely rounds, with Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux being on form with his AWP, even though he has been struggling lately, missing few crucial shots.
His team just kept making the right calls at the time, and after a good start, NiP were facing a two round deficit for the first time in this match, with the score being 4-6 overall.
Ninjas in Pyjamas were forced to another weak buy with FAMASes, trying to turn the round around by making a pick in B halls, but that seemed impossible as Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom anticipated the move, taking out two opponents and damaging Richard "Xizt" Landstrom to only seven points of health.
The Swedes couldn't break the momentum, even with the crown united in their favour, VeryGames members silenced them down with every opening frag in the round.
Alesund's fist in the air to celebrate the de_dust2 win
By the end of the half, they pickedup only one round, making it 5-10, heading to the Terrorists side.
All of a sudden, NiP started to turn around the match around, not only winning the pistol, but taking the rest of the following round to take the lead.
They won eight consecutive rounds before Dubourdeaux and Richard "shox" Papillon finally denying the A bombsite with two frags each. They found it hard to solve the enigma in NiP's slow play.
With the usual VG stars shinning here and there, it was their captain Kevin "Ex6tenZ" Droolans who was on form throughout the whole game and even though he was considered the weak link in the team for a while, that's simply wasn't the case in this match.
The score was tied once again at 13-13, but that was the turning point for Ninjas in Pyjamas before they went off to win the first map by winning the remaining rounds.
Dubourdeaux was on fire during the second map
VeryGames didn't have the benefit of making any mistakes on de_inferno as a small hiccup could end their endeavour at Dreamhack Winter 2013.
They had a strong start by winning the initial seven rounds, mostly thanks to Dubourdeaux who secured sixteen kills in the process.
Ninjas finally joined the scoreboard with their first round with Adam "friberg" Friberg fulfilling his entry fragging role on the B bombsite with two smart headshots.
It didn't change the situation as much since VeryGames kept on stomping them in fashion, with the concentrated play with default setups and fast paced retakes which where driving NiP crazy.
Eventually, the team led by Landstrom managed to secure last two rounds to make it a bit more bearable.
Pistol round was crucial for them if they wanted to stay in the game but it seemed that it is going towards VeryGames way before Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund completely annhilated the B push to make it 12-4.
They did pick another two rounds afterwards but that was all VG was willing to let them as they closed the map down with 16 to 6 and it was Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux being their main star with 29 frags in 22 rounds.
The winning moment was really emotional for NiP
Map three was de_nuke, widely knows as probably the best map by the both teams and we couldn't wish for a better decider to determine the first finalist.
VeryGames decided to go for a flawless yard rush towards lower bombsite, with Richard "shox" Papillon storming the site and getting the bomb down.
After losing the first round, NiP went for a P250 buy, a strategy that was introduced by VeryGames and it worked really great for them as they surprised them and turned the match around in their favour once again.
Lindberg and Friberg were simply closing the back passage towards B bombsite and it seemed that VeryGames are out of ideas for this match as they were facing a really tough deficit in the final map.
Closing round brought to score back to 11-4 in favour or the Swedes and it was up to VeryGames to display a strong Counter-Terrorist side and try to form a comeback.
NiP won the first round with an opening pick on Dubourdeaux in yard and it looked really tough for VG to stop their opponents this time around.
VeryGames decided to save money instead of going for the usual P250 buy after losing a pistol, forming a third round buy and eventually winning it.
Small technical break gave the teams time to put their heads together and it was once again NiP who kept their minds cool and win the remaining rounds to eliminate their arch rivals with 16-6 on the last map.
