VAC to detect new cheats?

According to reports across multiple websites, a new update for VAC that detects new cheating programs was released on New Year's Eve.

It appears that Valve is conducting efforts to make CS:GO a more enjoyable experience by getting rid of cheaters and also players who try to crash game servers on purpose.

Over the last 24 hours several players have reported that more cheating tools are now being detected by VAC, resulting in a huge number of bans.

It also seems that all Steam users that are caught deliberately trying to crash Valve's servers will be handed one-year bans and will become 'untrusted players'.

Valve has so far decided to stay silent on the matter, probably to prevent the developers of cheating tools to know exactly what has changed in VAC or what they can do to counter this update.

It is way easier to cheat on csgo as everything in dota is handled server side whereas in csgo a lot is client side.

This is not VAC, it doesn't work the same. Why ? You simply don't get VAC-ban but are flagged as "untrusted" for 365 days. It isn't a banwave like VAC does, apparently if you have cheated before the new measures, you won't get banned, if you use some cheats now, you will.

Yeah, according to reports that I've read so far (on reddit etc) this was a server side update and not VAC. I think the servers now perform an analysis for 'impossible' game play and tampered net code.

they listen plenty - way more than any other games developer. You do realise they are the worlds leading and most profitable games developer....and they have a relatively small staff to cover all the games they develop and produce, including supporting the steam platform which is absolutely MASSIVE. They continue to set the standards ... ever since the original Half Life. Cut them some slack - they've continually made CS:GO better and convinced the professional community to embrace it...not an easy thing. Their eSports funding for tournaments is a stroke of genius. Everybody Valve-bashes without a clue how things work on a global scale. Yeah sure, they'll listen to every idiotic comment and introduce plasma rifles and rocket launchers... With regards to cheaters....this is an incredibly hard problem to solve. False positives would destroy the entire scene and fanbase and give them a PR nightmare. Look at email spam - it's still rife and email is 10000X simpler to detect and combat than gaming cheats. It's about time the community showed some respect and gratitude!

Before antivirus, there was a virus... Just like you have to update yours antivirus database to get protected from newest viruses, you have to update VAC to get protected from newest cheats... They can't figure all the possibilities of how to write a cheat code. That is just impossible...people will find new ways...that is why they couldn't release it before CSGO release

It's new severside anticheat, not VAC update. So they probably need to update all of servers and these are first day of non-beta bans which have to be 100% accurate. I would say they did great job until they will keep up good work on this.

you don't get it, vac never bans players instantly, this would make it way too easy for cheat developers to know if their cheats are detected. there is a good chance however that most cheaters who are cheating today will get banned because of new methods of cheat detection that even will detect even private hacks. however, it's a matter of time before private cheat developers will find new undetectable cheats.

As long as it will be a bit effective this is a step ahead. If they manage to hold back aimboters etc. it is already good, perhaps the cheaters who use others cheats will be scared of trying to cheat due to new 'ban' system. Hopefully it is more capable when only banning aimboters. Personally I played only 4-5 times against cheater during my 300 hours played in cs:go and in these past days during some matches I noticed people getting banned for 1 year seems the system is working. Hopefully Valve will continue fighting the cheating community, thanks !

Yeah. I played like 10 games this year. And only in one win players were humble and took lose with normal behavior :) But we had like 3 lost games with guys 2 ranks below ours. I thought that something is broken or they were cheaters. But I watched 2 demos and they were clear. So I think that it must take a month for ranks to stabilize. Last two weeks a lot of guys deranked because of cheaters - from one to three ranks. I somehow lost 6-8 games in a row in last week of 2013 and somehow kept my better eagle. :P
