iBUYPOWER beat Titan to win ESEA

iBUYPOWER have won ESEA Invite Season 15 Global Finals and $20,000 after two wins over Titan (2-0, 2-1) in the grand final coming from the lower bracket.

iBUYPOWER rode their momentum from compLexity win to a quick 3-0 start as counter-terrorists on de_season, a map they defeated Titan on in their upper bracket semi-final.

The French-Belgian side quickly tied the game at three a piece with two weapon round wins, but once again fell victim to strong play by the Americans, who racked up a 9-6 lead.

Keven "AZK" Lariviere led the terrorist pistol round rush that saw iBP extend their lead to 12-6. After adding another weapon round win, the Americans were all of a sudden up 14-6, as Titan weren't able to win any save rounds.

The squad of Kèvin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans mounted a small comeback to win three straight, but it wouldn't be enough as Sam "DaZeD" Marine would lead his team to two more round wins and a 16-9 win.

DaZeD led his team to a 16-9 win on de_season

Lariviere's triple kill gave iBUYPOWER an early 3-0 lead on de_dust2, but strong play by Nathan "NBK Schmitt gave Titan the fourth round. iBP won the next four rounds, and found themselves up 7-1.

A weak Titan buy got the French-Belgians their second round, but iBUYPOWER quickly recovered and won two straight. Titan then forced their way back into the game, winning three of the final four rounds to get to five at half.

Droolans' team on their terrorist pistol round, and suddenly the deficit was cut to two. Next six rounds were traded, and iBP found themselves closer and closer to the win at 14-10.

A successful A-split won Titan a round, and Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom's awakening brought them within one before iBP forced game point in the first best-of-three series.

Richard "shox" Papillon's double delays what becomes inevitable, but iBUYPOWER shut down Titan's mid-to-B push on the thirtieth round, securing the first of two needed series wins with a 16-14 score on de_dust2.

The two finalists started the second series neck and neck on de_cache, with the first nine rounds being traded until Titan found themselves up 5-4, despite Lariviere's quad kill round.

iBP went on to win seven straight rounds, including a one-on-one by Williams on round thirteen and a Latham double on the final round, as they scored a comfortable 10-5 lead.

Marine and Eric "adreN" Hoag retook the A site successfully in the second half pistol round, but Benrlitom's entry allowed Titan to win a weak buy on the third round, making it 6-12.

A Lariviere double gave iBP its thirteenth round, but a Schmitt quad kill and doubles from Schmitt and Benrlitom quickly got Titan within three. iBP struck back, but Papillon triple kill plus an assist round secured money control.

Titan made it to 13-14 easily, and then traded the final three rounds with iBUYPOWER, thus able to force overtime, where their experience would give them a hand.

Ex6TenZ' Titan couldn't get anything going in the grand final

Papillon and Droolans secured the first round in a two-on-two, while Titan easily ran over the B bombsite to make it 2-0. Third round was easy as well, and a triple from Papillon secured a 19-15 win in the second half.

iBUYPOWER won their counter-terrorist pistol round on de_nuke, but two frags by Benrlitom won Titan an early round. iBP regained control on the following round, but Titan then went on a streak that saw them win four rounds in a row.

Now trailing 3-5, iBUYPOWER simply locked down all of the map, as Titan weren't even able to come too close to winning a round anymore, and had to go into second half down 5-10.

Droolans' four kills won his team the pistol, but iBP won the third round rather easily. Latham then got boosted on the catwalk from outside, and the neat trick allowed him to get four kills and a 13-7 lead for his team.

A sizable crowd gathered behind Titan

Doubles from Papillon and Droolans, followed up by a pair of kills from Benrlitom and a one-on-one win from Droolans kept Titan within striking distance, but two one-on-ones gave iBP map point, and they closed out de_nuke 16-11.

The fifth and deciding map in the grand final started off with Titan winning the first three rounds as terrorists on de_inferno. After Marine's heroics on round four, the French-Belgians pushed their lead to 5-1.

Marine would once again carry his team on round seven as he scored four frags in the B bombsite. Titan avoided him next, winning a round in A, but that was all she sang for the favorites in the first half.

Double kills from Lariviere and Hoag cut their lead to 3-6, and two kills from Williams tied the game at six. Three rounds later the Americans found themselves up 9-6 in the deciding map.

AZK had a good showing in the grand final

Lariviere bested Droolans in a one-on-one to start the second half, and Williams was able to kill the final Titan member with one second remaining in a one-on-one on round two.

Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux' hat trick cut down iBUYPOWER's lead by a round, but two rounds later Lariviere's triple seized control of the game to iBP once again, with a 13-8 lead.

Down 8-14 after a save round that saw Latham score four frags, Droolans' three kills in B gave Titan some hope, but their banana push right after proved unsuccessful and iBP gained game point at 15-9.

Triples from both Latham and Schmitt kept Titan alive, and a one-on-one clutch by Papillon ultimately got his side within one. But ultimately it was Williams and Marine who clutched a two-on-three for the 16-14 win.

2014-01-20 02:47
yeah but the idea behind the MVP for dazed was cause that he is the igl and mind behind the win and still contributed to the scoreboard so much. plus I'm not only talking about the final but the whole tournament. Everyone had their moments no doubt.

Skadoodle never really felt like he joined the server on the first two maps. And his LAN awping is just horrible, although I'd like to mention his aim today. In my opinion there should not be any doubts on adreN as the MVP.

I have to agree with you on this. Eric fi ally proved that his insane amount of hours pays off. He has always played well ln lan, but his team always failing. Just as iBP lost to Titan i wrote "Has anger ever played well on LAN?". He was.... shiy. But o' boy did he wreck them on certain maps in the final. Id still put Hoag as the MVP. Glad to see others with the same opinion as me.
2014-01-20 08:40

America FINALLY re-arrives to the Counter-Strike international scene.
2014-01-20 01:48
Only one team from Europe, we must wait Katowice I think.
2014-01-20 02:57
arguably joint best team along NiP though, assuming fnatic needs to prove they can win another event and dreamhack was not a fluke. if ibp can win two straight bo3's against the frenchmen and coL can play close matches (and also thrash them 16-3), it's safe to say NA teams and players are finally on par with the euro scene in the highest level.
2014-01-20 04:44
yes, because that can be solely based on 1 tourny /s
2014-01-20 05:55
coL played great at dreamhack.
2014-01-20 07:12
not every team can win all the time, every team has a bad game. I dont disagree that ibp played very well, but scream? smithz? jesus they looked in rough shape. well played anyway but definatly not on par with europes highest level.
2014-01-20 16:29
If ScreaM starts playing well again, Titan will be #1 in the world imo imo ofc
2014-01-21 10:14
What a difference a day makes. If this was played yesterday it would have been completely different.

Titan were not ready for iBP, I imagine they prepared for coL and most likely underestimated iBP and it cost them hugely... although ScreaM underperforming really cost Titan a lot of rounds as well. Need to wonder though what the score would've been if shoxie had just run away in the 16th round.

2014-01-20 02:03
I was not expecting iBP to win, I thought Titan would beat them.
2014-01-20 02:04
Actually if sgares wouldn't have been dropped from the server in that pistol-round against Titans (and thinking about the first BO3 of the final as the half-final) this could have easily ended in an All-American final.
2014-01-20 02:04
True but no guarantees that shox wouldn't be able to 1v3
2014-01-20 05:39
Everyone on IBP played well; no one superstar'ed it up. Unlike the coL vs Titan game where n0thing had 21 more frags than anyone else in the server.

the match was great. IBP delivered some top notch cs performance. Verygame offered the nice display of skill they are used to deliver. Shox in this serie was just unreal. Honestly one if not the best player of the world. That last round from iBP was pure gold, it was like VG vs coL all over again on 15-14. The only weird thing is that it seems like scream doesn't care and then suddenly when he realizes they can come back he plays out of his mind leaving the last round with 2vs 3 for Titan but unfortunately they got outplayed... So many nice things in that last match, that ninja, that last sec defuses, those clutches, it was great and what we'd expect from a final ! GG

At the level iBuyPower performed today they definetly deserved to win. The last map between these two was so intense and hype flowed all the match was so entertaining to watch. Best quote of ESEA LAN SEASON 15 final match decesive round 14-15 > Dazed : Todd I need you to be aggresive at middle. Todd : Ok. I go middle arch and am dying. I hope to see iBuyPower performing that well in incoming events , congratz to them and nice victory.

Titan played really bad :) Nevertheless, iBP deserved it!
2014-01-20 02:59
No matter how bad you play, a supposedly better team should not lose TWO BO3's in a row LOL
2014-01-20 03:00
I agree no team can have a bad day. Not possible
2014-01-20 03:02
Wont even bother myself to argue with you
2014-01-20 03:07
To reply to both you and the person above you: If an American team has a bad day: "OMFG NA SHIT!" If a European team has a bad day: "LUCKY NA SHIT!" It's a bad excuse, because it's true all teams have bad days and that can determine an event, but apparently every European team is having a bad day when they lose to a NA team, not the other way around. TL;DR regional fanboys are all idiots, NA/Euro both, so start learning to be objective.
2014-01-20 20:38
You confuse bad day and bad year my friend. Losing almost every lan and now you suddenly think dum yankies stand a chance? Gl against nip :)

Anger stepped up from the first map. I was really suprised. I trashtalked him myself, but I'm glad he proved me wrong.
2014-01-20 08:03
He seems to play better online but then has some huge games on LAN. He clutched the last round of the tourny against shox though so that was sick
2014-01-20 20:35
Anger is a somewhat emotional player. He doesn't really get angry, but he gets down on himself(it seems to me, having watched him since Source) and that causes him to perform badly. I'm glad he did well when they needed him to.
2014-01-20 20:39
Yea. The whole iBP team is very emotional and I think that is what can cause them problems sometimes. But it can also motivate them.

with the display tha coL showed yesterday and in dhw and ibp display today 1 thing is sure, american cs is back on track. This comes as a result of complexity organization because they've sent their squad in stockholm prior to dhw and the knowledge that they acquired the transfered it back to states. The result was by scriming with the other american teams their total skill just went bigger. We saw that also with homeless that they showed potential. Also, another thing tha we learned and hopefully and the fellas overseas is that the only way to achieve something in cs is by maintaining a steady lineup. The constant changes will only do more harm than good. I hope to see more of the americans through 2014 and I believe we will see :-D
2014-01-20 03:56
Homeless was "okay." monte really needs to start stepping up, he was quite good in Source but in GO he's been a practical no-show. frozt is inconsistent, as much as I like him. And mosbeck is mosbeck, he will likely not shake his online title anytime soon. Both steel and freak played well though. To be honest, for the American teams, United 5 surprised me a lot. They had a lot more in them than I expected, even though they do have some of the most experienced players there. If they stick together they will do well. I'm glad to see a boost to the US scene. It would've been nice to see more European teams, but in the long run, it's still better than nothing and Titan/coL/iBP are all extremely close to each other, so it was really just iBP's day.

In my opinion, mosbeck actually played really well in the matches I saw him in.
2014-01-20 07:59
Whenever I watched the stream monte was actually really good.
2014-01-20 15:59
Statistically monte was like the 2nd worst on the team, next to mosbeck. During Source he was always a game changer, and in GO he just doesn't seem to be quite as good. I'm not saying he's bad, but he didn't play up to his potential. As for kozality: mosbeck was the the #1 statistical player for Homeless online, and the 2nd worst on LAN. I saw him make a LOT of really big mistakes, and a lot of situations where he let his teammates die instead of helping out. He did better than his last outing with Curse, but that's not exactly saying a whole lot.
2014-01-20 20:43

2014-01-20 17:10
people forget that ibp (dynamic) was on the top of american source (lan and online) for years - and has had great success locally & internationally on lan Heading into dhw many Americans had higher hopes for IBP than they did for complexity.. I think their disappointing performance was more a case of them not playing THEIR game and never truly getting settled in and comfortable.. Just watch their demos from DHW and their demos from this lan, they look like completely different teams but i wouldnt consider winning 5 bo3's in a row a "fluke" by any means.. especially when the last 3 were vs col (placed 3/4 at dhw) and titan (arguably the #1 team from 2013 aside from dhw).. they played really well, and its exciting for us americans to have two teams that can compete with some of the best in the world col / ibp just need more international lan experience to get more acclimated with how different teams play (in TOURNAMENTS, not scrims)

2014-01-20 17:38
lol I agree, I never saw Titan as top 1 team. Even though so many Titan fanboys started calling Titan #1 after they beat NiP a few LAN's in a row.
2014-01-20 17:41
You can argue they are the # 1 team though... so let's not be silly here? Either way iBP was no where near the level of Titan in the eyes of anyone that watches CSSGO before ESEA. Now people really saw the true potential of the American squad. I've said this from the start the best American team was and is iBP.. they just needed to be much more serious and dedicated, they have the perfect team on paper and I've always thought they were stronger than coL.

i dont believe that they are stronger than coL just like i dont think that fnatic are stronger than NiP, who are ARGUABLY THE #1 TEAM IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE.
2014-01-20 18:54
Yeah, I was really let down by iBP at DHW. Their performance frustrated me, and I repeatedly have said that they played scared at times. If you looked at iBP yesterday, they played confident. Fast at times, and slow at times, usually with good results. They didn't do that at DHW and it cost them a lot. They also were a bit sloppy day 1 ESEA, but somehow managed to pick up yesterday. I honestly think coL and iBP are very equal in terms of skill, and that both teams can do damage. coL seems to have had 2 slow starts on Day 2 of events, I'm not sure why. iBP is the opposite, they seem to start off shaky and then improve as the days go on.
2014-01-20 20:49
Because the assumption was that even AGAiN are better than any US team. 4-1 is getting crushed, doesn't mean iBP is better on balance, it just means most people don't know what their talking about.
2014-01-20 23:17
lol...but titans can be argued as the #1 team if u look at the past 6 months, more 1st place finishes than any other team.

NiP was the best team of the first half of 2013,but VG definitely was the better team kn the past six. Even the NiP players would agree on that. Don't deny facts.
2014-01-21 12:44
DaZeD had just joined right before Dreamhack, they barely practiced when you look at their scrim page and when they did practice, who besides coL do they really have that can compete at an international level and give them the proper practice they need. They went to DHW, bootcamped, flopped, but they gained massive experience and probably dedication. People can keep talking shit about their DHW performance but it definitely woke them up and make them motivated. Titan may not have played the way they normally did(as far as how tactically they played), but iBP looked like a completely different team than the one that was at DHW. CoL is a great team, but iBP imo has the perfect American squad to do damage internationally, and with their DHW and now ESEA they are motivated and know what to do to win. I have nothing but high hopes for the iBP guys and I truly think they can win the next big international event, EMS Katowice.

iBUYPOWER seem to really be the way to build an organisation. Alienware is also a company built on customized gaming computers. More companies dedicated to hardware should build their own teams rather than just be a sponsor.
