iBP over coL to win SoCAL Revival #2

May 5th, 2014 15:21

iBUYPOWER have come from the lower bracket to defeat compLexity 2-0 (16-13 de_inferno, 16-12 de_dust2) to win SoCAL Revival #2.

SoCAL Revival #2 ran into trouble last night as the event started getting attacked via DDoS. Regardless, the tournament was played out without any stream or GOTVs available.

In the upper bracket North America's two best teams, iBUYPOWER and compLexity, ran through the competition. When they finally met, it was coL who came out on top 25-22 in triple overtime on de_cache.

Lower bracket saw Reliable, who are 6-8 in ESEA Invite right now, plow through the competition, including Area51 in the lower bracket final. They were then ousted by iBUYPOWER 16-6 on de_cache.

DaZeD led his team to a 2-0 grand final victory over coL

In the grand final compLexity needed to only win one map out of three, as the organizers adjusted the schedule from the original best-of-five grand final plans due to the delays that saw the event finish around 4am local time.

Spencer "hiko" Martin's side went up 10-5 on the counter-terrorist side of de_inferno, and also won the terrorist pistol round. Down 5-12, iBP mounted a serious comeback, and won 16-13.

The deciding map was then de_dust2, where coL once more started well, scoring seven rounds on the defensive side. It wasn't enough though, as Sam "DaZeD" Marine's side cruised to a 16-12 win.

didn't steel take over as IGL? heard it on the cevo or esea stream
2014-05-05 15:24
Nah. Steel said on his stream that Dazed still calls & steel gives extra input.
2014-05-05 15:31
steel was igl for a while, but when steel got back to Canada Dazed took over
2014-05-05 15:37
They're like shox on VG/Titan. Ex6 is calling strat and shox is the 2nd caller if he can think a much better and a working stray when they are losing.
2014-05-05 16:48
no they were not, shox was never really a 2nd IGL neither helped Ex6 call, smithzz is doing/did that
2014-05-05 20:42
hah! Im sure about it dude because I'm a VG fan since 2011 and I read it on some interview in HLTV that he helps to call a strat. Smithz helping ex6 is when shox is not a member yet.
2014-05-05 21:04
Well it really doesn't matter what shox did for the TItan anymore, he's not even on the damn team.
2014-05-06 00:45
Well I did not say what matters. I just compare steel and Dazed to what ex6 and shox done. And it looks like you're the only one who's happy that shox leave Titan. lol

You are right about him doing some calling, but he actually only made the pistol round strats. :)
2014-05-06 12:21
lol. Im started to think that you're on their side when they are playing. haha
2014-05-06 15:21
Not too bothered by it to be honest, was never a fan of VG/Titan.
2014-05-06 12:21
So it's better not to comment if your not concern on the topic. lol
2014-05-06 15:21
I may comment as I please. Try not to get too butthurt over differing opinions next time.
2014-05-06 22:08
Why would it butthurt me? ROFL! I'm just giving you a advance so that you're comment can have sense and can be replied by sense also. lol. Nah, never mind, not worthy to argue ;)

iBP have always been better than coL domestically, but against international teams coL always rekt.
2014-05-05 15:34
Greece her-1g
well domestic results are always weird. here are some examples on LANs epsilon beat NiP back in summer( cant remember what was the exact tour) mystic beat titan (eswc) fnatic beat nip (dhw) ldlc beating titan (cph games) ibp beating coL on lan after coL's impressive run in dhw. it is weird but being a coL fan since 2004 i must admit that this is not the case here. ibp are just better team right now in all aspects. Anger didn't blend with the team as expected and ibp have too much firepower right now and an igl with EU experience.
2014-05-05 15:39
epsilon beat NiP in one map in a bo3 that NiP won overall :)
2014-05-05 15:58
its like the 3D coL rivalry back in the day!
2014-05-05 18:11
Greece her-1g
indeed!! 3D were the big name carrying 2 wcg in their backs but it was always delighting to see frod stomping them :D
2014-05-05 18:26
yup. somehow coL almost always came on top against 3D even though 3D has a lot better individual talent/skill.
2014-05-05 22:23
Greece her-1g
coL had the best awper in cs on fire every fucking time!!! and tr1p the mastemind. and sunman as support!!! jesus what a team!
2014-05-05 23:14
+1. good old times!

United States mah9
Back in the day Storm was a nutty player, Gotfrag ranked him as 3rd best in the world in like 2006. Back when the rivalry was happening I don't think people thought of 3D as higher individually skilled, not with fRoD and Storm on the same team. Also, coL always competed much better internationally than 3D, if anything 3D fared much better against coL than internationally, they'd always beat them out in the WCG qualifiers.
2014-05-06 08:17
Also swag, imo the best (tied with hiko) NA player switched to iBP, and coL got anger, who is not nearly as good as swag.

true. that little twat needs a beating! :P

i think if you count the latest performances of each team i would say 1-ibp 2- netcode 3- manajuma 4- reliable 5-coL my reasoning is ibp beat the shit out of everyone. netcode won against all the other teams except ibp manajuma won some, lost some but when they won they dominated. jack of all trades. reliable, they were reliable and made people lots of money, made some people lsot a lot of money complexity is a bit complex. apart from yesterdays match and the overtime hell against ibp they were really really bad.
2014-05-05 18:38
ibp and col are the top2 na teams everyone knows it.
2014-05-05 19:04
Turkey rusty james
ibp and col are the only two teams that get to represent the na scene on eu. if you've watched col after swag left you would ve got my point. also i watched a shit load of matches.
2014-05-05 19:06
Im not talking about eu lans just look at the last esea lan. Mouspaz (netcode) sucked on lan. Winning a bunch of online BO1s doesnt mean anything.

well, m0E tries really hard to prove himslef... and with this 3rd place behind NA's best it seems its working out for him
2014-05-05 15:41
He is not trying to prove himself retard. He's been to countless LANs including CPH 2012 where he finished 1st or 2nd can't remember. He destroyed NiP at ESEA LAN season 13 including a sick 1v2 awp clutch with dropping no scope.

"In the grand final compLexity needed to only win one map out of three". Well, actually one map out of two. I'm glad iBP got it nonetheless, because the change of rule was unfair. A 1-0 lead in a bo5 is one thing. A 1-0 lead in a bo3 is brutal.
2014-05-05 15:43
Ya the rule change was unfortunate, but it had to happen. I know atleast Hiko had a flight back at like 8 or 9 this morning. He wouldn't of been able to make his flight if the series had been a bo5 and went too all the games.
2014-05-05 15:49
I understand that. I'm just glad it worked out in favour of who was in disadvantage.
2014-05-05 15:54
Portugal Cyborgy
why should a 1-0 lead in a bo3 be unfair?its not like it didnt happen before, they played bo1 in the winner bracket and it should be that way
2014-05-05 16:05
It's not unfair by itself. It was unfair because the rule changed.

2014-05-05 15:55
The same team that gave us the master class final round against VeryGames, couldn't win 3 rounds on the same map on the same side to win $3000?
2014-05-05 15:55
It's so retarded how these big teams go to this small local lan to just collect their money. This should be for unexperienced local teams to get a chance to win some lan money but these major teams just ruin that
2014-05-05 16:07
No. It's about the experience not the money tons of players got to play with and against legends and even get lessons and hang out with them. This is truly the BEST way to cultivate the scene in US and it worked out amazingly.
2014-05-05 16:13
By having the 2 best teams of NA in the LAN, gives serious practice to the other lower skilled teams to get even better. If you really think that these guys go to these small LAN's for the money. LOL at you. I'm pretty sure most of the teams in that LAN knew they were gonna get raped by coL and iBP but they still went. Why ? because the experience of watching these top teams play LIVE in front of you, listen to their comms and play vs them is a much more valuable experience than just going to a shitty LAN with a bunch of pug teams fucking around.
2014-05-05 16:21
i would compete in any LAN within a 4-5 hour drive and be happy with last place its the expierence
2014-05-06 14:28
Without the big teams attending the LAN would get no recognition. Less money would be invested for future tournaments. Plus, the experience of playing betters teams is great for the lesser players.

NA scene wont grow if the competition is low on lans
2014-05-05 18:28
There are plenty of lans that ban professional teams from playing, socal was meant from the start to have big NA teams come.

i would go to a local lan no problem and play against coL/iBP lol
2014-05-06 19:51
TOP 2 USA 1 iBP 2 coL
2014-05-05 17:04
shouldn't it be 2-1 since col hat 1 map advantage?
2014-05-05 17:12
2-1 is the overall result. I assume the writer was referring specifically to the last match where iBP won 2-0.
2014-05-05 17:52
Col needs to get its act together
2014-05-05 19:02
wtf is this 3k for first place? i though America is worlds best economy and has extraordinary people there, not like all other humans(Obamas words). And so low pricepool cmon?? U stole so much oil from all over the world and u have 3k dollar for 1st????????
2014-05-05 19:19
it was a small 2 day event at a local lan in socal, not a huge spectator event
2014-05-05 19:28
1st, you're terribly misinformed if you the the US economy is the world's strongest! 2nd, CSGO scene in North America is not as huge as europe. actually its not even close to what europe has. so there aren't many investors/sponsors over here. 3rd, the oil has nothing to do with gaming! the money goes in the pocket of few assholes who are not willing to share it and would rather watch the whole world get fucked because it benefits them!
